This guy is so good at welding it's insane, no wonder he finished at a 3rd place in a world welding competition, almost falling asleep to the hot-passes just because it's so smooth :)

I've learnt so much from these videos. I own a stick welder and make poor welds while losing a lot of time. All the positioning and correct technique shown here has saved me tons of time and money on DIY projects at home. I used to think my welds would get only if I could get my hands on a mig or Tig welder, but there is no substitute for getting good on a stick welder.

A number of years ago I helped a buddy of mine who had a job welding the new water pipe being built in the Florida Keys,it was all down hand 7010 and pretty much the same as what you're showing here!And by the way,I was using a Huntsman 411P and still use that old hood.It's always been my favorite but you just can't get the thing wet if you want it to last

This is a great video like all of your videos. Most of the tricks and tips that you show are well set/prepared...can u make some videos on welding projects which are far from ideal? I mean really far.. such as - welding galvanized pipes with and without zinc removal, joining two pipes with a huge gap using another electrode as a filler, etc. Something that most of us face in our garages

Jodi, I always do that. I'm so happy that you guys made this video.When I was just learning I've smoked the flux off the rod real quick. Not even gonna touch on Stainless rod to that effect😅.But if you'd ask my old boss " Awwhh, its easy. Anybody can weld..🤔🤔... I'm not sure if I can even explain that through a written comment.... But either way keep the videos rolling. I wish you guys, and I mean everybody would do something on 5086 Aluminum base material with 5356 filler, GMAW-P or TIG root and GMAW-P all the way out. I wonder why nobody wants to touch base on that one? Humidity and Dew Point are the enemies on Aluminum

I've done my share of flux core welding - but I'm a little bit squeamish when it comes to my eyes. I've been told to not look directly at the arc, so I tend to run a dark shade and look slightly to the side. One thing I've never gotten good instruction on is just how to make sure your shade is dark enough, and what you should be looking at in order to judge the puddle (or bead height, as you mention here). I often find I can't see much outside of the puddle due to the darkness, so I don't know how you guys manage this
@craigbosko2229

JUST A WORD OF ADVICE,WHEN YOU'RE WELDING,YOU HAVE TO LOOK AT THE PUDDLE,ARC,IN FRONT OF THE ARC,ALL THE WAY AROUND THE PUDDLE,NOT JUST THE PUDDLE.YOUR MIND IS IN A GREAT CONSTANT STATE OF FLUX NO MATTER WHAT KIND OF WELDING YOUR DOING.

For anyone watch trying to learn. If you wanna actually put some good metal in there for filler, just go side to side and let the bevels fill. You’ll eliminate a fill pass. Also there’s no need to whip that far on bottom. But everyone has different presence

Excellent work as usual! May be a silly question but why does the API not require the use of a low hydrogen rod like you would see when you do a 6010 root and 7018 fill and cap? Is it strictly for production, or is there some other underlying reason? Thanks in advance!

This type of electrode rarely traps slag. It’s a very thin slag to begin with. With the amperage he’s running, I wouldn’t be the least bit worried about it. He’s not welding P-91 material

Guys/Gals please dont think I'm talking s&>t..... Would that root pass? I practiced for months (6G) and my root would look like that but I'd think it wasnt good enough and never tested. Was I just getting in my head like I sucked because I was told the root needs to be acceptable appearance wise as well? I'm finally growing some balls and seeking a job pipelining (as a helper to learn more and eventually breakingout) and need all the help I can get.
