Although I do have some questions I would love to have answered, I’m used to the new Miller machines with a digital readout for amps so on “150 range” at “40” would that put you at 60 amps or is my math wrong ? That seems low but again I’m not a pipe welder. Also Welty don’t you get all of your slag out of the way before restarting wether it be ‘10 rods or ‘18 rods? Seems like an easily avoidable fail point to me just by wire wheeling your slag? I can’t say Thanks for the videos enough. You’re a huge help in the welding world not only for me but also thousands of others.

I grew up on a farm stick welding in the 70's. Later moved to mig and Tig. Each has its place and in fabricating too many kids discount stick when it's probably the right method.

Picked up on your "arc striking" technique: stick it where you want to strike while your hood is off and then you put hood on and "strike" by "unsticking"…clever. At least that's what I think I saw you do. I also noticed you literally freehand the root…I'm gonna try that. Been noticing that doing the root downhill benefits from some down pressure on the stick…you seem to literally be resting the stick on the root face. I also noticed you fully lay your ass down when starting at bottom which is my weakest point in 5G…I'm gonna try that setup when I get out of school where I can't lay down and have to try to have good visibiliy by torquing my neck 97 degrees…and I still have to kind of guess what's REALLY going on in that puddle down there 😃

@@mikedavis1714 Can you please give me any advice for 6010 open root overhead? All I hear is keep it pushed up in there, but it still doesn’t turn out right and gets out of hand. I run it at 85 amps with 1/8” gap and land.
@mikedavis1714 Жыл бұрын
85 amp with a 1/8 gap is pretty hot. I would try a 1/16 or 3/32 gap at that amperage keep your rod 90°with the plate or pipe your welding or I like to lean my rod angle slightly toward the direction I'm traveling and it should open up a slight key hole, if your key hole gets too big just scoot your rod back into the puddle for a second and it should fill back in and continue dragging your rod from there, it may require you to step back and forth a few times to close up a big hole but the main idea is to not come back into your puddle for too long or you will have a mess. As far as pressure there is no need to push too hard, if you can imagine making that same pass standing up in a flat position were your looking down on the weld basically the weight of your arm and hand is all the pressure you need if you can mimic that on the over head you should be pretty close, but practice is key sometimes it takes weeks or months in some cases to get it right. For me I practiced every chance I got and tried to watch others as much as I could, I weld pipeline so any downtime we had I was practicing and letting x-ray shoot my welds
@user-hn9qg5qm3o Жыл бұрын

@@raulll0441 I have improved allot on 6010. I figured out a couple tricks that seem to help allot. They are not always the most pretty weld but I have never had one fail.
