This is good stuff. As a radio engineer of 22 years of course I am supposed to be able to quote this back to someone in my sleep but to know that 5G works pretty much like 4G does comes as a small relief.

Hello sir, please come out with a video on cqi, 5qi, mcs in 5g nr. My ex bosstold me that cqi is not there in nr and instead it has 5qi(5g qci) but no cqi. Three different mcs tables are there in 5g but first two are same as in lte and 3rd one is for low SE(urllc). But still I have seen somewhere that nr too has three different cqi tables(again first two are same as was in lte). In one interview also when I told that there is no cqi in nr and it has new terms called 5qi.but the interviewer did not believe me and as a result I got rejected.

Yes, outer loop works on BLER which is based on ACK/NACK. So, MCS is adjusted based on that.

Yup, the NW calculates UL channel quality but grants are usually based on UE's requirement which is indicated by SR or BSR mechanism.

@@ramyaranjanbarik681 No, actually in uplink, there is no CQI index. It is uplink SINR that is directly calculated by the gNB/eNB and then the scheduler assigns an appropriate MCS. So, this is more of a vendor implementation thing.

@@OurTechPlanet Got it .So eNB/gNB used SRS-AS to estimate the UL SINR and NW scheduler assigns an appropriate MCS irrespective of Vendor implementation i guess. The way of measuring the SRS-AS and allocating MCS might be a vendor specific. Thanks for clarifying the doubts.
