The quality of this GIS is crazy. And thats such a well implemented bowspirit modification. Good work dude.

Wow! Beautiful video! Would love to see a comparison of speed in numbers with and without gennaker

Thank you Ibrahim, i am waiting for the circumstance of wind AND time for more sailing... but thats a good Idea. A problem would be that we have almost very gusty conditions here where I can't measure the true wind, that makes it difficult to have a scientific comparison... but what I can tell by feeling: it's a huge difference.

@@aw-marinebootsbau I think it would be better to have a smaller mainsail with a jib and a gennaker as a downwind sail.

@@NICOLAS25478 To rig a jib with adequate forestay tension for good performance upwind there is the need of shrouds. There is to add a lot of stuff to the boat : Halyard, sheet (Bb+Stb), sail, shrouds, block at masttop, block at deck and cleat for the Halyard, blocks and cleats for sheets. That all complicates the boat, takes time to rig the boat in advance of sailing and complicates single hand sailing. Further more splitting a sailplan doesn't improve the upwind efficiency. I find the gennaker is complication enough but does the job to add the amount of sail area to have lot more fun downwind. When there ist too much wind for the big mainsail it's easy to reef that doesn't shift the point of effort of the sails. Different from take the foresail down in more wind, that shifts the point of effort backwards, or reef only the mainsail what shifts the point of effort forward. That means to prevent a shifting point of effort you have to put down the foresail and reef the main. That's a lot to do single hand in a small boat. So my conclusion is to reduce the mainsail area for one ore one and a half squaremeters if it's really to big but not to split in two sails. (Always think for single hand use)

Awesome and quite beautiful modification. Did you have to reinforce anything to be able to add the bowsprit?
@aw-marinebootsbau Жыл бұрын
yes a bit. Reinforced the bow area with a second layer 6mm ply outside. Thats all.

Interesting, thanks.

Very interesting... other than the extending boom, did you make other modifications to the hull? And most important: How fast have you been able to go with the Gennaker?
@aw-marinebootsbau Жыл бұрын
I didn't know exactly, at more then 2.5 Bft. it's gliding I guess. With one crew it's more save but needs about 3 bft breeze. The total sail area with gennaker is about 21m². In the moment the enlarged spars are very heavy, so stepping in the bow is a bit dangerous, also jibing at more wind. Next steps are replacing the wooden spars with carbon tubes. But first I have to spare some money for this step...

Thank you Robert, today i've time to sail, yesterday the forecast tells something about 4-7kn wind --- and today? Nothing... fine weather over 20°C an absolutely no wind - nothing... 😟.

Hmm, the hiking board is working good but building it was a lot work. Next Time I would build it more simple. Sailing at higher windspeed accelerate the boat a lot. Under conditions with short hard gusts hiking is hard work. but it's always that way I think...

Now it looks like a Narwhaal! I'm wondering if it throws off the balance, i.e. center of effort vs. center of gravity.
@aw-marinebootsbau2 ай бұрын
you're right, on one hand its a easy way to add a lot uprightening moment on the other hand you have to move youre body fast inwards when gusts stops suddenly to avoid capsizing to windward, it's a lot more sporty. I did it for about 6 hours in very gusty conditions between bft 3 to 5 Bft. Thats hard work... (but without capsizing!). For cruising I would leave the board on the trailer and reef earlier.

Hi! This is awesome, but that cleat knot is not good, there´s a easiest, safer and quicker way to do it :)

@@aw-marinebootsbau here is a link where you can see a more secure way, by doing that kind of 'half turn' so that the loose end becomes trapped under a secure turn, running parallel the previous wrap, you get a very secure connection that won't slip
