Thank you for all the great advice. That last one hit a nerve for me as I practice 1 - 1.5 hours a night (married, have kids, full-time job, and other family/personal responsibilities) and some night I still feel guilty that "I haven't practiced enough or well enough". Thank you for the remind to check myself and to prioritize long-term growth and self-appreciation.

I really like your point about memorizing your songs. One of the magical things about music is how it works in your memory and there is no other way to make a song your own. You also realize patterns you’d otherwise miss.

Thanks James! I am intermediate. 76 years old ( late bloomer)! These tips you gave were very helpful and so true! I do recitals with my school and open mic at our local cafe, but the thing that helped me most was videos. I realized how much I slouched. No wonder my back got tired! Lol 😂. My question is, how do you stop looking at your hands? Thanks for these videos.🙏

Thank you! Your advice has been extremely helpful, I'm a late beginner. I paused your video and recorded myself, I learned a lot about what I need to do and what I shouldn't be doing.

The best tip I’ve ever picked up is to leave your guitar out. put it on a stand, hang it on the wall, lean it against a corner . . . it doesn’t matter where, just make it easy to pick up. I pick my axe up several times a day, sometimes I just play a single verse and chorus of Hotel California, sometimes it turns into an hour of songs . . . but the important thing is that it’s easy to start. If you have to go get your guitar out of its case under the bed upstairs, you ain’t gonna do it. Leave it where it’s easy to pick up and it will call you . . . “Hey buddy, I’m over here waiting . . . wanna come play?”

That was the best guitar lesson I’ve ever watched where the tutor didn’t even strum the guitar. Thanks very much for some great advice.

I have also fallen into the trap that if I’m not playing my guitar at least 3-4 hours per day, I’ll feel horrible. I build my whole life around it. Aside from work, I have no other responsibilities per se, but when it comes to relationships etc, I always put my guitar first. Probably kinda unhealthy, but at 44 divorced and kids all grown and out of the house, I feel like I finally get a chance to put myself and my goals first for once, so why not…

Sniff your own farts…..I’m laughing my ass off right now. It’s like one of your strumming lessons where you said to practice air strumming but don’t do it at work under your desk because it might look weird. You are so funny sometimes. I own your full course package and you have been the best teacher. I started learning guitar at age 70 and am 71 now. I consider myself further on than a beginner, but not quite yet a full-fledged intermediate. Because I’m retired, I practice a lot and really enjoy it. My nephew and I played lots of songs together at our family Christmas gathering. It was so much fun. Thank you for your hard work and great tutorials.
