scan lines, each scan line can be thought of as line of pixels(horizontal). You start from top left and each pixel will be illuminated according to its intensity value which is stored in refresh/frame buffer. Picture definition image is stored in the form of intensity values is stored there from where it is retreived and displayed on the screen. When the electron beam is sweeping the scan line form left to right the electron beam is in ON mode whereas when the transition is to be made to the next scan line the electron beam goes into the off mode. When the electron beam is coming from right to left to go to the next scan line that is called horizontal retrace. When bottom right corner is reached, the beam undergoes vertical retrace( which is diagonal from botton right to top left)

So, the some differences are: 1. Vector Scan Display cannot display realistic shades scenes whereas Raster Scan Display is pixel based display 2. The screen refresh rate for vector Scan is 30 to 60 times per sec whereas for raster it's 60 to 80 frames per sec.

Sir youve explained on thing wrong. The intensity does not turn off when going to next line the intensity turns on and off based on the image we have to project on screen, based on pixel.
