ABOUT THE TWO NY SISTERS WHO STARTED MANIC PANIC® NEW YORK, NY - Sisters and New York City natives Tish and Snooky Bellomo have been America’s darlings of creative hair color and punk rock pioneers and tastemakers, since their days in the original Blondie band line-up in the mid 70s. Opening America’s first Punk Boutique in 1977, they went on to start the world’s first alternative beauty brand, Manic Panic®, leading the hair color revolution and changing the concept of what beauty is forever! For over 40 years Tish and Snooky have delivered their rock n’ roll lifestyle to the world through their iconic brand. Their legendary hair color, which has remained 100% Vegan and Cruelty-Free since its inception, has helped celebrities including Cyndi Lauper, Rihanna, Lady Gaga, Katy Perry, Cardi B, Kylie Jenner and Kim Kardashian stand out in the headlines. Tish and Snooky have been dubbed “The Martha Stewarts of Punk”, and still rock the Manic Panic lifestyle. “We don’t just sell it, we live it!” has been their motto for over 40 years. To this day, Tish and Snooky continue to perform regularly, singing with some of music’s biggest and icons including the all-star band Blue Coupe, consisting of Rock and Roll Hall of Famer Dennis Dunaway (founding member of the Alice Cooper group) and Albert and Joe Bouchard, founding members of Blue Oyster Cult. Tish and Snooky continue to spread their brand of radical glamour® throughout the galaxy!

Awww, I was a teenager when this was filmed, and remember shopping at Manic Panic all the time. (Usually followed by catching up with friends at Yaffa or Holiday.) Snooky and Tish were always very kind to me, which impressed me even then because I was, comparatively, just a kid and knew I was nowhere near as cool as they were. Such good memories of growing up at that time.

People in NYC back in those days knew how to keep safe while enjoying the most of their surroundings. I was lucky enough to have a family friend who lived in Brooklyn take me and my family around the Burroughs using the subways and taxi system avoiding getting mugged but at the same time seeing ALL of NYC in it's architecture as well as dark and gritty glory. There were definitely street junkies and degenerates around but our local guide knew how to avoid crossing the wrong territory. Today people seem less instinctual and street smart.

For those of who were alive and remember these times, was everybody like this? Was everybody just so real and raw and unfiltered back then? It's amazing and refreshing. They didn't need to be drunk and high constantly to be themselves..... It really makes me reflect and wish I didn't need to do those things to just be so unapologetically myself like these amazing people. They're freaks and they love it. They own it. They are truly LIVING! Side note, why are all the great 80's videos filmed by gay men? lol
