As a 66 year old fan of Queen and 5SOS, I love the fact that they show people that they are more than capable of recording the same way now, Freddie recorded with all of them, they could all harmonise, so many older fans always running down today's artists "they can't sing the same today, they can only sing with auto tune" I have a large record collection, but newer artists are over taking my 1970s artists, just wish I could convince my friends to give them a listen.

The craziest thing is, I've been listening to the original Killer Queen for the past 20 years, and Michael's "fastidious and precise" is the first time I could understand those lyrics!

The element you recognise that are 5SOS are cos they used the backbeat of their song Youngblood as the backing drums for Killer Queen. It’s why it sounds slightly different to Queen and yet so recognisable of 5SOS. Love their version of this classic and the behind the scene video is epic 🙌🏼

Another reactor compared Killer Queen and Youngblood and they used the same guitar tone, snaps and bass line. In the background, I can't remember if that's just the bass with a synth on top of it or actually a bass synth! They cover the question in the queen movie: the whole band would do the harmonies and because at the time they didn't have the software to correct each pitch, they would do the take over and over until it was perfect! Surrounded by his best friends, Calum is funny and playful! So many memes came out of the making of killer queen haha

Blake Mclain did the exact same thing too, but the opposite. He watched the making of first, and then song. He did point out that in the intro is the exact same as youngblood but a little sped up, they still did a little different in Killer Queen and how Queen made the song originally. So, the kick drum and the guitars in the intro is the same sample from Youngblood.

The sound you can't figure out it's most likely a synth bass or a bass with a pedal effect, it's what I could recognize from my love for bass and my zero experience from music production.

omg pls pls do the tour diaries! they date all the way back to 2015, so if you started with the sounds live feels live diaries and did all the ones leading up to youngblood that would be so fun

The movie "Bohemian Rhapsody", from 2018 with Rami Malek, is really cool to see how Queen came about. It will answer your question on how they made the song. Check that out if you haven't.

The song was recorded so that all proceeds would be donated to the Mercury Foundation Trust. The band paid for studio time, production costs and was liked by Brian May
