Someone else mentioned this too… Idk if it was done intentionally by Ren or not but neat detail if it was… Screech can’t get help from the two people most important to him, his buddy Patrick and his gf because they’re hooking up behind his back. That’s why both were busy. 😯

The most briliant thing Ren did here is capturing how abusers hold YOU accountable for what's going on in their own heads. That's why you with time will go silent, cuz you learn to know that no matter what you say or do, you will be punished for whatever thought or feeling your abuser has. You don't matter anymore and that's how you get stuck.

Ren was a busker, and was actually discovered and signed by Sony. That is why he is so comfortable performing live. Shortly after being signed, he was misdiagnosed with schizophrenia, and was immediatly dropped by Sony. It was a few years before he was actually properly diagnosed with Lyme's disease, but only after the psychotropic drugs had nearly driven him insane.

It makes it worse when you realise they're twins, not just brother and sister (as if that isn't bad enough). But it's so true when you say abused as a kid and finds it in adulthood in the form of romantic partners. Unfortunately it happens too often. It's almost like when you're broken as a child it puts a neon sign above your head a you grow up inviting those types of people in
@RandomShinyThoughts
@RandomShinyThoughts 3 ай бұрын
Because abused people typically don't know what healthy relationships are supposed to be like as they've never experienced or had them modelled for them in their childhoods and the bar for what is "better" than what they've been through is so low that behaviour most people wouldn't stand for get's a pass because "Well it's not as bad as [childhood trauma]" There's also a thing with abusive relationships where they cycle between the massive lows of the abuse and massive highs of being lovebombed to "apologise" for the abusive behaviour and being promised it won't happen again. When a person becomes used to the cycle they tend to become uncomfortable or bored in healthy relationships because they're not used to the consistency of being treated well and they're not getting the huge dumps of adrenaline/dopamine that go with those extream peaks of emotion.

This is my favourite by Ren, the cycle of a abuse is one of the biggest issues facing society and it becomes like a ripple effect to the point where the ripples bounce of the constraints and end up crashing into each other and causing even more chaos. One persons actions can have a knock on effect that spans generations and decades and can cause knock on trauma to those they never knew and the victims of that trauma can go down a dark path and create their own ripples. The cycle repeats, it’s no good just placing a bandaid on that one ripple, because the ripple has already created ripples of its own, you have to prevent those ripples from even happening but as long as we as a society only deal with the issues in society by placing a bandaid on everything, nothing will ever change. Prevention is better than the cure.

I can rap while strumming some basic simple chords (like Eminem's "Stan" for example) but what Ren's doing is on another level - many levels above in every way. I've never seen anyone play guitar that well while rapping and singing - and walking and acting - and switching up the flow and style so often - and doing it all in one take. Sheesh! He must be from another planet. He would probably make a great movie actor and screenplay writer too. As an aside, the cinematography deserves some praise too. Ren is a young genius! He can do everything! Check out his rapping on Genesis - live version is my favourite (because of his improvised sounds that are sublime) but his video is just as good. His song Power shows a more fun side. And of couse you have his Money songs and Life is funny and Heretic and .....and..... and... There is tons of great stuff ...oh check out Chalklines for a duet as well and his live stuff in Brighton. It's all stunning!

I dont know what it is, but it seems us Genxers can really really connect to this music. There are so many familiar sounds to his music, but also something so new and different. It really evokes so many emotions. Brilliant.

Many Details: - "Jenny walked these streets 1000 times before" and "still as a statue in high heal shoes" - She is a hooker at 14 and she's been working the streets for a long time. - She was dragging her feet, she wanted to escape - Jenny is unhappy with her life, wanting to do something different - she escaped but not the way she was thinking - Jenny and James a naming pair that hints at their connection, both 14 years old - Screech's nickname hinting that he is wild and prone to brashness, that he acts like that alot, to gain the nickname. - Screech gained his father & grandfathers nature, prone to drugs, alcohol and violence - Jenny froze still as a lady shaped steatite - Jenny gained the quiet and nervous nature of her mother, making her lock up in bad situations - Slice the rosie off your cheeks - probably a reach but rose to a violet Screech tale - His mate Patrick and his Gf are both busy, therefore busy together banging in the flat above him or GF house. - James and Jenny, lay dead one street apart - bringing the image of two babies born together, 2 incubators side by side. Violet's Tale - Violets name an homage to her beatings - Violet was abused by her father, mother was drinker and ignored it. Slight hint that her mother was quiet too. - She has twins Boy and Girl, fraternal twins meaning one egg was fertilized by Violets dad, the other by her BF Stevie - This shows that she was still getting abused by her dad and by her bf having sex pretty soon after getting together.

He tells the stories and the filming of the stories are all done so well i found myself looking for the bodies laying on the ground. The saddest thing about this is the fact each of these things are happening in every town, city, and country at this very moment and the cycle continues

I have to add this to my thoughts as I watched more of this video. Is his art his process of trying to make sense of the world and the layers of society? He seems so aware and a deep understanding of what makes people tic or he would not be able to make us feel what I am feeling right now! Wow! Say something Violet… He is going to do be things! He already has but can you images what the future has in store for this talented artist!

As soon as the hat got turned and the glasses went on I knew the onions were being chopped after seeing one of your other videos before. Ren is a genius however from what I hear this was based on a true story that he had read in a newspaper. You definitely need to do alot more of rens work if you haven’t already! 🖤

I am following up on my comment to your review on Ren. As I stated I was taken when I first watched the hi Ren video. Not only is he an amazingly talented musician and story teller, the public awareness that he has brought to these type of illnesses that use to be sweeper under the rug. People were ashamed if they had a family member with this type of illness. When I listened to this trilogy (which I heard it first on your show) I realized this was not a one hit wonder. For him to be able to do this over and over at such a level of excellence. Wow what can I say to do this comment/review justice. All I can say is Thank You for turning me on to this amazing story brought to us by this amazing artist/musician who just so happens to have struggled with mental illness or a great actor who played that part. Which ever the case my be Thank You Ren for these amazing songs/stories. You have made me stop in my tracks and take notice! Thanks Cedric and Brian for these reviews which I agree with so many of your sentiments. I am enjoying watching your show as I am a new follower. I look forward to watching more. This trilogy is going to be hard to beat.

I also noticed how the lights don't just flicker at the "evil" side but at any bad thoughts. When the "good" side says "I call the shots" that's a pretty abusive though and the lights flicker and at the "I am you, you are me" the "you are me" switches to the "good side" camera angle and the lights still flicker. He isn't just chastising the "evil" thoughts, but any "bad" thought, even when the "good" side has it.
