Cross multiplying denominator and numerator and multiplying the denominators of the left part of the equation is also an option. Then you get 15t - 6/18 = 2t - 3/2. Then only cross multiply to get 30t - 12 = 36t - 54 => - 6 t = - 42 => t = - 42/- 6 = 7.

At the title card, just starting my first formal math class (college intermediate Algebra) in >30 years, I think the answer is 3) 7. LCD of the fractions is 6. Therefore, we rewrite the equation as: 5t/6 - 2/6 = t - 9/6. Multiply both sides by 6 to take care of the fractions: 5t - 2 = 6t - 9. Subtract 5t and -9 from both sides: 7 = t.

5t/6 - 1/3 = t - 3/2 get the LCD of the /3 and /2 5t/6 - 2/6 = t - 9/6 and now just now multiply everything by 6 5t - 2 = 6t - 9 subtract 5t from both sides .. and add 9 to both sides 7 = t

b) 7 6 is the LCD for both sides. 5t/6 - 2/6 = 6t/6 - 9/6 -t/6 = -7/6 times by (-6) t = 7

Excellent video but teaching kids how to pass an exam is not teaching kids Maths. Your first method of trial and error would take up half the exam time and how many points would you get for a question like this? 1 or two. Solving equations is vital in mathematics and if you can do this well it will enable you to many things such as Trigonometry ( Soh-cah-toa) as well as two thirds of Physics.

The nice thing about this problem is that the denominator can remain "6" on both sides of the equation, and the answer is the positive value of the numerator on the right side.
