Currently bards has only two 6th level spells they can choose, which is underwhelming to say the least. But I don't think Larian care about it though, they are paying more attention to fix their god damn kissing animation than addming more spells into the game.

In BG3, bards are the people you hire if you want your enemies to *literally kill themselves.* When you think about it from the enemies' perspective, bards are one of the scariest things you encounter. Just talking to them for a few minutes makes you betray your friends, give up your lifelong dreams, feel mindshattering regret or fear or want to throw yourself into your sword. Pure psychological warfare. Pure terror. Death in an artistic form. (Yes, that goes for any high Charisma main character, but since bards are also skill monkeys and can consistently suceed in a variety of checks, they are just better at it than the other charisma classes in my opinion.)

warlock till you get your pact weapon then go paladin, congratulations you get all of your spells back on a short rest so you can feel free to smite as much as you want and can ignore the str stat for bonking people. consistently deal obscene amounts of damage and have eldritch blast for enemies you aren't able to get close to AND have cloud of daggers for area denial.

Also the Seduction thing is more of a problem with DMs and Players moreso than the Bard class Itself. How exactly to handle romance and seduction between characters is a lot easier when you have a pre-planned out romantic arc as opposed to the more tabletop thing of a player picking a random NPC out of the crowd and saying 'I wanna seduce that' and suddenly the DM has to panic and figure out how TF to handle it.

minus the fact your dm will likely limit your short rests anyways.. if not keep you from having any especially if there's a warlock, that and the limit exits to press players into full resting a bit more often due to interactions, though you can go through most of the game without a long rest or mostly anyways

I can't wait for your take on the 1e Bard. To qualify, you needed Strength 15+, Wisdom 15+, Dexterity 15+ and Charisma 15+, Intelligence 12+ and Constitution 10+ on straight rolls down the line-up with 3d6 (if you had a nice DM, you might be allowed to roll 4d6 and place stats). THEN you began the game as fighters, and after achieving 5th level (but before reaching 8th level), they had to change their class to that of thief, and after reaching 5th level as a thief (but before reaching 9th level), they had to change again, leaving off thieving and begin clerical studies as druids. These character were absolute TANKS because of how Dual-Classing worked back then. In addition, they knew all kinds of lore and had accesses to Druidic magic.

@@thatonebean141In 1e, class leveling was completely separate from a lvl 20 limit like 5e as a matter of fact level limitations didn’t exist in 1e, it was only a thing in 2e because of Krynn and Dragon Lance. Bard was an optional class in the back of the PHB and you had to be human if I remember correctly. Humans could not multiclass like Demi humans (that is a story for another day). So lvl 5 but no higher than 8 then switch to thief, then druid…. Then bard as a prestige class sort of. It had a lot of limitations like it’s attack increases ended at the fighter level. No one I knew played one until 2e because it was so complicated.

@@thatonebean141 Ah young grasshopper, let me take you on a journey through the insanity that is Old-School D&D. Back then, there was three ways to level: Single-Class, Multiclass, and Dual-Class. Single-Class is elementary beyond the fact that there were racial limits on your class, for example, a dwarf could not be a wizard. With Multiclass, things started to get complicated. You chose two different classes and you leveled them at the same time. Not in a Gestalt way either. No, you divided the XP you got evenly between each class. If you got 500Xp, then you put 250XP in one class and 250XP in the other. What was bizarre was that each class had a different XP Chart; some classes literally leveled faster than others. Furthermore, only demihumans could Multiclass and there were also restrictions on the combinations. A dwarf could be a Figher/Thief or a Fighter/Cleric and that was it. Finally, we get to Dual-Classing. Oh dear lord Dual-Classing... Firstly, only Humans (or Half-Elf) could do this. Then, you choose a class and leveled it up normally. At any point, you could leave that class after you got to lvl 2 in your current class and join another if your stats allowed it. HOWEVER, you could NEVER return to the old class. You were forever locked out of it. It wasn't like 5e were you could take, let's say, one level of Cleric to get the Domain, jump over to Fighter to get Action Surge, return to Cleric to continue to level and jockey back and forth willy-nilly. But wait, there is more. After that, you were a 1st level character with 0 XP again. You did get to retain your Hit Dice, HP, and any knowledge, abilities, and proficiencies though BUT if you used any of the previous classes abilities, you earn no XP for that specific encounter and only earn half experience for the adventure. You were also penalized if you used the old attack/saving throw numbers or weapons/armor that your new class didn't also share. FURTHERMORE, you don't earn additional HD or HP as they advance through the new class UNTIL they reached a level higher than the previous class; then all of those restrictions were removed, he earns the HD/HP for the second class's levels and earned the rights to use his old abilities again as long as he didn't violate the rules of the class (for example, a Fighter/Mage couldn't cast spells while wearing armor). Now, let's return to the Bard Situation. As a Human that miraculously rolled the necessary stats, you started with a Fighter. You worked your way up to at least Lvl 5 or up to Lvl 7. After that, you switched to a Lvl 1 Rogue with 0 XP, thereby locking yourself out of Fighter and placing restrictions on your abilities/modifiers, but keeping your HD/HP. Once you had gotten to at least Lvl 5 and then exceeding your Fighter classes by a single level (but not going over Lvl 8 as Rogue), you got everything back plus more HD/HP. After going through all of that, you had to learn Druidic Lore, choose to start all over again at 0 XP, etc., etc, etc. Therefore, if you were able to pull all of this off, you would s#!t-ton of HD/HP, your old abilities PLUS a bunch of cool abilities that only Bards had (lore, druidic spells, languages, ability to know all of the legendary information about any magic item they come across, and a percentile chance to automatically charm any creature that can hear him. In conclusion, you had to go through insane hoops to acquire a Bard but you were the biggest, baddest mfer at the table if you pulled it off.

Bards are the best class ever, and I will no debate it! Love that they can do everything well, maybe not perfectly but well, so as a player you are NEVER left out and can always help the game. And solo, the only class that can really excel. Plus, my most epic moment was a Gnome Bard, whole party was unconscious from a deep dragon in 3.5, used Bardic Knowledge for geology to see if there was an underground lava vein, nat 20, taunt the dragon to pounce on me, nat 19 plus my huge CHA, dragon slams down on me. Expecting to just take one for the team and die, DM gave me a reflex save with insane difficulty...NAT 20!!! Soloed a Deep dragon as a bard!

My favourite thing to do as a bard in Baldur's Gate 3 was to play a song then wait til there was a good enough group of enemies around my dude before throwing a fireball, smokepowder bomb or just anything else that could do the same thing and taking out or hurting a bunch of them to make the fight easier. 😆 Also don't know what game you were playing but my bard got with everyone and everything he could like if the choice came up to seduce you can bet it was picked. 🤣

Top tip.... bard songs work just as well as minor illusion or cat familiar to distract and gather groups of PP targets

BG3 Song of Rest makes bard actually useful, instead of floating some anemic one-die HP recovery that scales for crap.

You know with the amount of hooking up in BG3 and how everyone wants to bone you, it’s kinda shocking 5E bard isn’t the default bard in BG3. “Oh you get to sleep with a bear, squidward, hot demon lady, two emo elves with one being a vampire, an ogre elf, etc. But we cannot make the Bard class the seducing class cause that’s going too far!!”

I'm playing a tiefling bard romancing Karlach :) Today, Dammon will fix her infernal engine muahahaha 😈💖 I am an attack and damage kind of player, so it's quite difficult with her tiny dagger where she does max 4 damage XP

Well.. it gets insane very quickly if you multiclass to college of swords up to lvl 6 with dual wielding, rogue lvl 3 (thief) and fighter lvl 2. Throw the cloak of displacement and heavy armor for good measure and you are literally a one man/woman army that can fulfill any role. In any case, respeccing is cheap so play around until you find something you like and stuck to it.

Sword Bard in BG3 get two chances to push enemies off ledges every turn at level 6. Good enough for me. This is legit how I made the gith monk fight easier, by pushing two of them into the void.

that last line reminded me of a "fun" fact about bards. they have access(before arcane secrets) to almost every mind control spell in 5e(I think they are missing 2). so uh... that's one of those thoughts you don't want to think about

My bard of creation is a halfling who just wants to cause chaos in the most hilarious ways possible, and REFUSES to learn combat spells that are actually helpful to the party. On the plus, whenever someone plays an epic song for a fight we all get a laugh at imagining him playing it on his bagpipes
