"Southern Girl by Maze" played by TXSU was ABSOLUTELY AWESOME... Been wanting to hear somebody play that one and execute it well...Txsu didn't fail 🔥🔥🔥 Hero played JSU was a very different choice but in a good way... They actually put a alot of effort into that one... I liked it... Very unexpected💥💥💥 So from 1:32 - 6:16 or 4:14 Is all I needed to hear from this 5th even though I listened to the whole thing... IMO...Txsu did to Jsu what Jsu did to Southern in the 5th... The Boom sound great but The Ocean just had much better songs... It's all subjective depending on your expectations tho... Excellent job both bands... I'm very excited to see what takes place between The Jukebox and The Ocean...🦾 Keep Booming Boom and Great job to the uploader and media team... Very clear... awesome...💯

what people fail to realize is the home band in a 5th is responsible for responding and countering. the Southern Girl sounded good but wasn't necessarily a "good response" to what was played. They waited to play ballads later in the rounds when they could've responded with it during the round. The other part is TXSU counter melodies get lost because the arrangers are arranging for instrumentation they don't. the trumpets supporting and trombones and baritones didn't know the song completely and you can hear it. listen starting at 2:30. tubas pooting out notes too. now to me TXSU is the best band the boom has faced all year but let's not pretend it was close because they sound better than last year. the Boom wasn't perfect but executed and sounded better on the arrangements that were in front of them. People giving credit for what the arrangements should've sounded like from TXSU

Ok so after listening to the whole thing, here are my thoughts….JSU was more powerful than TXsU..But TXsU was just as clean…They both sounded great and had great balance. A slight edge goes to JSU because there was a couple of parts in TXsU songs that sounded like they didn’t all know. So JSU for the win!!

It’s fascinating to me to read all the comments comparing sections and years and arguing over got who. We just can’t simply enjoy a good battle, we always gotta declare a winner🤷🏾‍♂️ Having marched in the Boom 34 years ago (crab ‘90), I listen for the melodic differences in the tunes and not so much the power behind it. I’ve always loved The Ocean because they always came to The Vet when other bands didn’t travel long distances, so it’s always good to hear them. The biggest difference I heard (in person) last night was woodwinds…. JSU arranges different phrasing for piccs and flutes so you hear them clearly on every tune. Other bands don’t consistently do that. I’ll always love my Boom, but the both bands sounded good to me. 👏🏾

Jackson State with the overall win. A much cleaner and crisper presentation. The arrangements from the Sonic Boom were like no other. JSU sounds more experienced and seasoned. It was like…a senior vs a sophomore band. If that makes sense. Choreography was more entertaining from the ladies at JSU. Although the ladies at TxSU on their last song put up a show. I think it may have been a sort of tribute to the performance the jsu ladies did last year? Or an imitation of that. But nonetheless, good 5th from both bands! IMO, both bands did a good job as well as both dance teams but the Sonic Boom and J-Settes took the W for me! I see in the comments that most people think TXSU whooped JSU but that's so far from the truth. From beginning to end, I was more entertained with what the Boom presented with their selections. Their sound was more balanced, controlled, the composition was on point and the Settes were more creative, innovative and just on fire in those stands. I think TXSU had some hit and misses with their song choices and execution. They can be a powerful band at times but they need to be more consistent in several ways bc they definitely had tempo issues with Hero and some sections were losing their breath at distinct moments. But in comparison to last year, this was a major improvement for TXSU and I think that should be noted. Great job for the comeback but they did not succeed in getting their lick back! & since when does Motion BUCK so much??!! I was appalled at some of their new counts. I advise that they get in the lab and come up with fresh material that reflects THEIR style. It was too close to comfort for me, very weird. Otherwise, I think the diss at the end to the J-Settes from Motion was soooo last year! It's cute that they are still mad over it - that's Legendary Laniea for you!! Props to Ms. Kayla King for giving the crowd 'battle girl' energy but please do something new and not replicate what another team has already done. Imitation is the oldest form of flattery!!

TxSU won this easily with song selection and arrangements. JSU actually didn’t do bad, TxSU just battled them well. JSU media is more fair than Ocean Media with camera/mic position, and it’s still a W for Texas. Brian said “Be Prepared” 😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂

JSU came with their usual Saturday game selections thinking TXSU had nothing up their sleeve. Song Choice and Arrangements wins over Cranking. JSU had no interesting music. Ran thru their R&B songs. Fell off on Silk climax. The Disco tune “Hero” was their best song! So give them 4-1. You can even charity them a 3-2. Pen still won. And apparently TSU pulled out the bag what was supposed to against this type of contender. JSU played it down, but didn’t know TSU was standing on bitness! TSU for the W. Diverse selection at that!
