A brilliant telling of a sad, sad story. Thank you. 💚 My mother's Glasgow-born side of the family were still talking of it 25 years later. The great man has passed into legend. 💚

A sad story we had a picture of John on the living room wall back home. I remember my uncle saying John was as agile as a cat.cheers and thanks from Melbourne.

Whilst abroad on holiday, I got talking a lovely old man who supported Rangers. I was surprised to learn that as a teenage boy he cycled from Fife to this fateful match at Ibrox in 1931 and stood behind the goal ( Rangers end ) that day . He said it is day he'll never forget. Btw , Tommy Gemmell missed a few penalties for Celtic . 1968 league cup v Rangers at CP on KZbin being just one of those . As poor a penalty he ever took .

I'm a Rangers fan but it was an accident if you watch it back, you can see English was not at fault. RIP

Yes. A total accident after which, I'm told, Sam English never got over. Two tragedies.

Willie maley the celtic manager at the time was convinced it was a accident maybe he cud have jumped over the keeper or didn't need to go in as hard
