We were told to just go on, but add a decimal point behind the last 'whole' outcome. Then add a zero each time. So we were left with 6. We write a . behind 817. Then we add a 0 to the 6 and get 60, which we still divide by 8. The highest possibility is 56 for 7 times. So we add the 7 behind the decimal point and get 817.7. But we still have 60-56=4 left. We add another zero behind it to get 40. Divide that by 8 and get a full 40 for 5 times. We add the 5 behind the 817.7 to get our final answer 817.75. Since 40 minus 40 has nothing left over, we are done. Of course anyone with a trained eye sees immediately that 6 is 75% of 8 and can just add the .75 right away.

thank you so so much!! im currently in 6th grade, and we’re doing revision on 4th grade math. my teacher for 4th grade was decent, but for math we literally just played an online math game for math 85% of the time. so i pretty much sucked at division (i still do), but i just tried a question on my homework after watching this video and i checked my answer and it was all right, as well as the next 3 questions :) thank you!!
