Sure do like hanging out here and some WONDERFUL music. You must've had some Seldom Scene on because I heard John Duffey and Mike Aldrich just honking along! And it sure is getting to be mowing time. Got my firewood done today so the deck will go back on the Craftsman and I need to drag out the Snapper and get to hand mowing and catching clippings for mulch. That Kohler lit right off as all the old cast iron jobs do. The 301 in the Gravely just turns just a little and it's gone. That will be a fine rig! Thanks, Pal!

Yep! That be the Seldom Scene doing Georgia Rose. Spring is a-coming around here. I keep debating taking the snow bucket off the Kubota but you know what'll happen when I do that, nor-easter!

That's why I've been leaving the snow shovel on the front porch. I know we've got 2 more months before the gardening is safe and I've seen snow on dogwood blooms but it's been a while. And there's no telling what the Canadians won't want and send down! Take care, Pal! And you can't miss the Seldom Scene!!

I've been watching these and your Ariens videos to get me psyched up for "revamping" a John Deere 300 in much the same way - strip it down to the frame, clean everything, take the engine out and go over everything on it short of a rebuild and put it back in proper so the tractor is at peak operating ability.

Nice! It's well worth putting the work in and ending up with a good usable tractor. I've heard those 300 JD's are nice machines too.

Nice tractor. That setup is similar to my Jacobsen and it has the same engine and a driveshaft

I never thought of double heat shielding wires in situations like that. I'll be doing that from now on.

Nice video. I have a gang of these style Massey’s. It’s what I collect. Two of them are 14’s.

Neat! I like these early style MF's better that the fat red hood style, got a bit more class to them.

I collect Briggs and Stratton engines myself. That's what I started working on back in 2000.

That's one stout machine. The old garden tractors will last longer than all of todays junk.

Interesting how they mounted the engine with the drive shaft connecting to flywheel.

It is. Ariens S and GT tractors did the same thing too.

I was wondering, what you had brushed on the crankshaft, prior to installing flywheel? Should the shaft be free of any lubricants, or oils, so there isn't a chance of the flywheel shearing the woodrift key, from centrifugal force? The manual seems to be at odds from what I view on some videos. I enjoy all your videos, keep producing them please. Thanks. Mark.

That was just a light coat of grease, makes them easier to remove again if need-be. In all the years I've been working on Kohlers, I never had a problem with the flywheel shearing the key from force. I think because of the large flywheel nut that you can sock down nice and tight, the coat of grease/oil won't effect it. I have found that if you lube the crank on a B&S though and install the flywheel, there is a good chance the key will shear. Thanks Mark! More to come as time allows...

5Tractorguy. Awesome. I rebuilt a Kohler m12 in a 86 Cub Cadet and couldn't remember if I applied any lubricant between flywheel and shaft. Viewed different post, "Not to do it", and got worried I'd have to tear it back down. Big job on that tractor. I value your input. Thanks a ton. Mark.

I was told, no anti seize or oil on a tapered flywheel. just clean it with brake clean and torque it. It can cause cracking

I have a similar motor like that on my 148 cub cadet but it has a generator.

Runs good! Do you know if that plastic dash is the same as the 10 and 12hp? They look identical.

Yes, the dash’s are the same. The model’s 7,8,10,12,14&16 all have the same dash’s.

Looks like I'll have to keep an eye out. Massey parts seem to be a bit scarce.
