Here's the last of the repair. Turned out to be a great tractor. Runs well and is pretty comfortable to drive around. Now on to building the tow truck hitch.

That is a SWEET rig! Can't beat cast iron and adding the fittings on the front end is the only way to go! My Craftsman solenoid acted up and I took a hammer and jarred it a little and has worked ever since. The starter on the 301 on the Gravely takes the same treatment. A whack goes a long way but not too BIG of a whack. And I do have a dead-blow hammer so things aren't quite so vicious. And the mowing deck is back on and ready for more grass. 'Tis the season coming right along. All is running except the splitter and it's in summer mode. Thanks for the video, Buddy! All the best to you and the truck ought to show up before too long!
@5Tractorguy
@5Tractorguy 6 жыл бұрын
Yes sir! I gave this one a whack but no dice. It was catching with the key a time or two when I first went at it. But they ran the solenoid trigger wire through the PTO and safety switch so you know how that goes... Ya know it's a good thing I didn't take my bucket off, got another snow storm a-coming tomorrow and Thursday here. Looks like the Kubota and C12 may get a workout. Yep! The Jimmy will be one the way in due time. Let it run for a bit the other day, hadn't run in 3 months and it banged right over.

You just can't beat those old trucks and sometimes wiring just eludes some people. I have to study really hard but all my stuff works and is very simple which is a good combination. Hope the snow doesn't cover you up too much so you can play around with it. Supposed to be cooling down here too so we lit a fire last night. Can't beat wood heat either. So Take Care my friend and will awaiting the next one!

Awesome job. Those are one of my favorite tractors. Very odd though that they didn’t have grease fittings on the front like most old tractors do. That would be nice for gardening with the hydro 3pt hitch

Hi, just to clear things up, "a key way (keyway or key-way) is the slots in the shaft & pulley (or whatever) that the Woodruff key goes into to stop the shaft & pulley rotating at different speed & out of sync. in some cases." I hope this helps. Regards Ian (an Engineer) from England.

Thanks Alan. We'll see what happens. It's a customers machine so I don't think I'll be able to... time = money and all that. Usually if I film a big repair it ads a good half day to it. If I manage to round up another case for myself I won't hesitate though.

Really liking that intro. Worthington is cool as heck. Same for the bluegrass. Still remember you playing at the Mow-In. Yeah, weird thing about the lack of zerks. Anyways, I'll give those MF's a little more respect after seeing this. We had (maybe still have) a local dealer.

@5tractorguy Can I ask, why does that engine vibrate so badly? Does it possibly have a balance shaft issue, or a flywheel issue? I only ask because I've seen some of those run so smooth, and some are rough like that one. I have a few 1970 Wheel Horse Chargers 10 and 12, and a 1970 Sears Custom 10xl that all have Kholer engines, and mine don't vibrate like that, but if I run across one that does, I want to be one up on a possible diagnosis.

5Tractorguy I’m going to restore a L gravely next winter. It will be stripped and powder coated. Every bearing and seal will be replaced. The engine is standard bore so it will have a lot of life left. The tractor was free so there won’t be more investment than the final value.

Like the fact that you took the extra time & effort to drill & tap the axle for grease fittings. Did you also do the same install on the Pittman arm ? I try to do those types of upgrades when I work on things. I did that with the spindle bearing arbors / housings on my JD 140. I also removed the inner bearing seals so the grease could now get to the bearings. I usually completely lube my tractors each time before I mow or do snow removal. Parts are getting too hard to find & Too Expensive not to do proper PM.
@5Tractorguy
@5Tractorguy 6 жыл бұрын
The pitman arm I left alone. They had a bushing pressed in there with a coil of material going around the ID (looked like small string) to hold lubricant. So I just loaded up the string and put it back together. Tractor steers unbelievably easy.... That's the way to do it! A little bit of maintenance every now and again goes a long way.

@regsparkes6507
@regsparkes6507 6 жыл бұрын
The Massey Ferguson has nice wide tires there on the rear, this must make for a wide foot print therefore grip and should be good for hauling equipment around your yard. Hydraulic equipment on a tractor is nice to have, there are all sorts of possibilities for the 'tow truck' plans, with that. Do you have any word for us yet on a new location for your crowded shop/yard? I believe you mentioned something about this towards the end of last season.
@5Tractorguy

That's what I'm hoping. I have a set of wheel weights but I don't think I'll have to run them on the back. Nothing yet unfortunately. I found a nice 5 acre plot in Lyndeborough NH, zoned industrial/comm with a big 24X64 building. Price wasn't bad, but I couldn't swing the upkeep costs along with it. Needed roof, never had water or septic. Was right on the road too. So, I'm back to lookin' again....

I know this video is 2 years old, but I just found it. Nice video. I REALLY REALLY HATE videos I cannot hear. I can hear you just fine. There seems to be slight differences between your tractor and mine. Mine has the extended running boards, and also, my stator was encased in?????? something. I had my motor professionally rebuilt, and the rebuilder, encased the stator again in a 2 part epoxy. My Motor, even after having it rebuilt, has a slight knock at low RPM. Seems everyone of these I have seen, only 2 others, has the same knock. I would be interested in buying another MF 14 or MF 16 if you ever find you have too many.
@waynew2831

I screwed up, AGAIN! I was not mt stator that my engine guy encased in epoxy. It was my PTO clutch. I have trouble remembering things from 3 days ago, and this has been almost 3 years ago. Sorry for the boo boo.

@@5Tractorguy Mine is a 14.( kzbin.info/www/bejne/iJ-QZZqIhNODnsk ) As I understand it, the dealer could order a 14 or 16 with the extended foot boards. As luck would have it, this one was ordered that way.

do you happen to know if stens 460-063 ignition coil will fit the wisconsin tr10d?
@5Tractorguy
@5Tractorguy 6 жыл бұрын
I would imagine it would if it'll fit over the armature leg. There can't be that much difference in them as long as the little wires coming out are the same. Kohler used the same coil too. Looks just like the original here, only cheaper. www.ebay.com/itm/X13000-Wico-Wisconsin-engine-Ignition-coil-90X13000-Bolens-S7D-S8D-TR10D/152928904211?epid=523811419&hash=item239b45e413:g:BzYAAOSwFSxaODqA

@ShnitzlHaus 6 жыл бұрын
I was thinking the same, maybe I can see if they can send dimensions on the armature leg square. yes that link is expensive, trying to avoid that route. if not maybe external battery coil would be best, just trying to keep originality first.

Hey Wagner, sorry for the delay... been busy here. I'm in Massachusetts myself. MF garden tractors can run high price wise since they aren't as plentiful. 10 and 12's around here I generally see listed for $350 - $600 depending on condition. Not sure if they sell though since the listings are still up. You'd have to find a guy who wants one for his collection and is wiling to pay the price. GT market has been a bit iffy here the past 3+/- years, not sure about out your way.

If that has the aluminum case Peerless transmission, there is a stud sticking out just below the brake disk on the side. Tighten the nut a bit to snug the pads. If not, you'll have to take the assembly apart and clean it.
