I am so sorry that Ron has left us. Such a great guy and Ron presented diesel info in such an informative and logical way. I watched this video yesterday and because of it- I diagnosed and fixed the egr butterfly valve stuck closed on my 04 diesel. This saved me hundreds, maybe a thousand. I simply took two screws out and the butterfly valve. Thank you Ron, we miss you out here in PSD land and I hope your family is doing fantastic!

This video saved me over 2k dollars. I had a Diesel Tech tell me the HPOP needed to be replaced on my 2007 F250 Super Duty turbo Diesel 6.0 I researched several channels including this one. They all suggested checking the IPR Valve screen first. I did and it was blown out. I replaced the screen & O-rings. Truck started right up. A $18.00 dollar fix. The scan gauge will connect with any newer vehicle but check their website for a list of things you can monitor. The scan gauge is actually made for a lot of purposes ESP tracking fuel usage and cost.

My 04 f350 king ranch is also having the same problem. Some say it's the high pressure oil pump and other's are saying fuel pump. Another is one battery is 2021 and the other is 2016? Would that make a difference??

Hi Ron, your vids have helped me understand, diag and repair many ford diesels. Thanx. I'm now consumed by a 2003 Excursion 6.0 with intermittent long crank and hard start issues. Always good ICP, ICPR, FICM 12.5&48V ETC. Problem will occur anytime. No pattern. Had a Crank sensor code. Replaced it. No code,still has long crank intermittently. Installed gauge at ICP Sensor. Instant 800+psi cranking every time. All voltage drops performed, cables repaired, grounds fixed etc. Cranking RPMs = 180-210. I've video of sync coming in late but not starting after it does for another 6 seconds. Recommendations, tests, insight?

I have a 2007 F250 that was hard to start cold and now it won't crank at all. I notice black smoke coming out the tail pipe while it's trying to crank. Let me back up a day or two when it was just hard to crank and would run very ruff until it warmed up and would run like normal and today it will not crank at all

I have an 2006 f250 6.0 with a delete…my starting is fires right cold then if you stop and go in a store it does not want to start until it cools off then starts right up I changed the fuel filter main and secondary it helped a little I did get a p2290 code injector to low I will try a icp sensor next any other suggestions I really don’t understand why it will start right up cold and not warmed unless you use starting fluid

I can help. That is why I make these videos. You need to tell us what is missing. Do you have a scan gauge? Ficm sync, icp above 500, base oil pressure, good fuel quality and pressure, ficm voltage above 45 and the pre clatter when you turn the key on? One of those are probably missing. I have seen a stuck open egr. injector failed and pushing the fuel back and the throttle plate closed on an 04 causing low compression.

Hey ron...I own a 2003 SD f-350 6.0 turbo diesel with 240000 miles.I've done nothing but dump money into it. I have but 2 problems left and hoping you could help. When ever I hit my remote start or turn the key to the on position I hear this awful squalling noise coming from the oil filter. I'm dead on funds (just finished a nasty divorce and had to pay for the truck twice) so I'm hoping it's not the oil pump. All the videos refer to no start or quit running, mine starts and runs but I'm afraid something is going to go. And the last thing is she doesn't have that power anymore ever since the ficm had to be replaced, almost feels if something is holding it back but I know everything else is fine under the truck.....please help me....

My icp is 750 to 800 idle and 1800-2000 while driving, the old harness was chaffed so I changed and everything started working like well oiled machine and then the next day starting running horrible, I scanned and it says cylinder 4 contribution and balance. I have no sync, replaced harness, cam and crank sensors multi times, reprogramed ficm and ecm, swapped out ficm and ecm with running engine, icp 1300 while turning over, even un plugged ith icp and tried buy no luck .checked the pin pressed in the cam for cmp sensor signal. used a noid light while turning over but the noid light is not lighting up only lights up when first cycle the key. any help would be great. watched all your vids thanks.

my truck wouldnt start..I wiggled the wires and found it to be my cam wire as well. but instead of going with the one Ron rec'd, I ordered the oem Motorcraft WPT359 Exhaust Gas Recirculation Valve Connector for only $32!

Help! (05 6.0 turbo diesel) I have a frustrating intermittent crank-no-start due to no SYC signal. I get no check codes and no MIL light. The scan gauge values all look good except SYC = 0. Every time I work on it, SYC then works, the engine starts, and I assume it’s fixed. Then a month or two later SYC = 0 again. This has happened 7 times in the last year. The attempted fixes so far: Remove & reconnect the front FICM connector. Remove & reconnect the middle PCM connector (twice). Remove both connectors and spray with CRC 2-26 contact cleaner. Remove the FICM & PCM to inspect the connector pins, the re-install. Open the harness at the above two plugs and (solder & heat shrink) splice in jumper wires for the CKPO and CMPO signals. Then, this month crank-no-start again: SYC = 0. The scan gauge showed no codes, but I cleared them anyway, and the gauge showed “Not Ready”. (Like maybe the PCM was asleep?) The FICM values were showing. So - Is it possibly a dodgy PCM? And if so, what’s involved in swapping the PCM? Or, maybe the FICM is dodgy? How do I tell? I must say your videos have been very helpful. My son and I were able to replace a leaking EGR cooler using your instructions. -Thanks..

sounds like a sticky relay or bad wire.. check wires at cam and crank sensor.

Yes, I found it. It was a high resistance connection at the crank sensor plug. The crank sensor circuit at the PCM measured 8000 ohms. After cleaning the sensor connector it was 800 ohms.

Curious does this happen when the engine is hot reason I asked I just picked up a 06 6.0 liter that’s been sitting for the past 6 years fixed other issues ran fine then started with the issue where it crank but doesn’t start ran it for a week to work went away then 2 weeks later it began giving the same issue when the engine is hot it won’t start has to cool down and even then it’s a hard sloppy start

Ron,on this video i opened the fuel cap and my fuel level was about 1 inch of diesel. before i replace pump, i should see what fuel pressure is after pump to bowl under load and idle. ? Also when key off and crank engine the ground braded frame wire on fire wall /passenger side get so hot it melts the plastic a/c box, also my new battery's and starter seems to drain when i crank engine w/key off. what do you think is issue(s). I'm confused. You mentioned the loose debris on the lube oil filter could clog the IPR screen? I also heard the dash oil pressure gauge indicates fuel oil pressure?

If the stand pipe or anti drain back valve fails. The piece can make it to and through the IPR screen. Nothing on the 7.3 dit, 6.0 or 6.4 monitors actual base fuel pressure. The 6.4 does monitor high fuel pressure.

I have question on a 2004 that it take three cranking of at least 8-10 secs each from a cold start but if I stop it a the gas station and try to restart it then I have to wait 20min or no start. It has a new IPR, STC, EGR Delete, studded OEM oil cover. Cranking the oil bowl fills up as it should and I get 14.4 @KOEO and 84.7 IPR @KOEC, FICUM 47.5 or 48, ICP on first crank from 0-17 then second crank 0-17-37 then third crank 0--17-37-112-334-678-ect.. Idea?

Check your high pressure oil pump (HPOP). Mine did the same thing...took it to my mechanic and he discovered my HPOP had failed or basically came apart sending shrapnel thru my injectors, etc etc and killing my truck. He had to replace the hpop, all the injectors, did and egr delete, and swapped out the head studs.

Hi Ron i have a 03/04 6.0 power stroke, customer wanted to do an EGR delete so we removed and blocked off the EGR, pluged cab side of EGR cooler with plug provided and installed the provided block on the opposite side so the coolant contiinues to circulate, remmoved turbo, alt, and intake, reinstalled and tried to start, it started and slowly died now when it cranks, it is an uneven crank and will not start sounds like not all cylinders are firing any ideas

try working on a e 450 box van with a 6.0 in it, you can not get to anything without tearing the whole damn front end off the truck, ford moter should go out of business for designing an engine of this can, 6.0 engines are pieces of shit, good for about 100 thousand miles and then they go to shit. nothing but problems,
