I have had an 86 for the last 18 years, we built a 396 stroker l98 block, not easy. We added a D-1 Procharger, and a 4L80 trans, manual automatic. It's just had a body kit I bought in 2013 installed this week, new paint. I had a special chip made just for it. It's got all Eagle forged, it's got 200 cc world sportsman 2 heads. I just added 48 Lb injectors. I put the ZR-1 rear bumper, all I can say. It's a 10 second car. Hehe.

I know the appeal of an LS is that you can often find lightly used LS engines at the junkyard for a cheap price... but such a swap with the factory LS PCM means you get no support for any of the original C4 gauges (early or late). If, instead, you're willing to spend a little more, you can get a World Products Motown block. This lets you run small block crank, cam, and distributor/ignition with LS heads and intake. The advantage of this is that you can get your original C4 PCM re-programmed to support the engine, giving you LS power while keeping the C4's instrument panel, original transmission and motor mounts, accessories, etc. This hybrid SBC/LS block has reverse coolant flow so you can run higher compression ratios typical of LS motors without worrying about detonation as much. I think this approach is about as win-win as you can get... combining the best aspects of both engine designs for cars originally equipped with SBC motors. Basically a drop-in. And, given there's no traction control for a C4, keeping the power under 500 HP will likely keep you from losing the back end and wrecking your car, yet giving you a C4 that will run 0-60 in the low 4-second range. Only a careful inspection under the hood will reveal the rude surprise that awaits anyone thinking that you have a typical C4.

@johnclifford I tried finding this motown block you're talking and got a million products. Is there a link you can drop? I want to get a 1984 to 1985 corvette. Manual preferably and I'm lookong to get somewhere around 450 to 550 hp on it. Also do they sell that block along with a 6 speed manual transmission. I don't want that weird engine called the auto 4 3 manual. I thought it be easy just to nab lile a zr1 or z06 with a manual transmission but I had no idea there would be difficulty with it synching to the instrument clusters. I really want to make this work. I also saw the digital clusters they have as well instead of the basic ones that were in there. Any more clearer advice or some links you could drop would be appreciated man. Thanks.

You can keep the OE gauges except fuel mileage with any swap..
@alexl93342 жыл бұрын
You can reuse the sensors and will work with dash just no instant mpg. Fuel gauge and everything else will work

A parts list would be AWESOME! This is exactly what I want to do for my 1991 vett after I put a good amount of miles on. Currently has 16,250 miles original. Thank bro, love this video.

It's definitely hard to modify a low miles car like that. Most of my parts should be in the bottom of the description, anything outside of that I either had to make or find somewhere else.

Your best friend on these C4s is Jason at Vette2Vette. He recycles wrecked C4s and removes the parts and stores them out of the weather. Be careful with that rear end as it does not have the stronger D44 rear end. Al Knoch interiors is one of the only interior vendors that will sell you just a recovered driver seat. Most suppliers require you to purchase a pair. It looks like your drinker's side seat is in pretty good shape. There are a couple of vendors that will sell you a complete analog dash set up (if that is what you like). Pricey but cool.

Hey loved the video, I also have an '84 corvette sitting in my dad's barn at the moment, (it's been there for 4 years. Runs but old low power, so am also thinking of doing this swap. Needs a bit of other work, headlight motors, hood release cable hanging under the dash, back hatch pistons are dead, cracked front windshield, then a paint job. I am thinking this is the year to do it.

I have a 9 second ProCharged C7 but I'll be honest I worry about crashing it at the track so I have been looking at picking up a C4 to LS/4L80E swap. I would love to do twin turbos but not sure there is enough room under the hood. I imagine a PD blower would be ideal for it which might be an option. What are your thoughts on twins vs PD for the C4?
@collintaylor41272 жыл бұрын
Well if your building it primarily for the track you could modify the hood or run no hood.
