Great video I love your ideas. I have one point that I think you need to think about and it's when you said mouldy salad, please remember that some of your followers may have learning difficulties and could think that it is safe to eat mouldy salad since you suggested it. Apart from that your meal suggestions sound delicious and the price range is wonderful. 😊

I’d always recommend making fried rice with whatever you have left in your fridge if your out of food. Like, you can pretty much use anything in fried rice. If you have vegetables, they go well. Meat, it goes well. Example, once I was pretty much out of food, but I had rice, half a bell pepper, some ham slices and an onion. Fry the onion, fry the pepper, add the boiled rice, fry and mix in what sauce you have (I had hot sauce in the cupboard) and it’s a meal. I’ve even made it with leftover noodle flavour packets. You can do a lot with those packets. Cook them in a tin of coconut milk and it makes a passable curry. It ain’t great, but it’s cheap and when you’re out of money it’s better than just coconut milk and rice

Sorry but this isn't a whole weeks meals for two. What about lunches, breakfasts, drinks (like your tea!) and the two other days of the week that you have missed entirely... This is only 5 meals out of 21 hence the low low total. I would also question your portion sizes as well, for example on the monday you use 5p worth of brown rice per person. Assuming that this is the 0.79p/1kg bag of rice from Aldi this equates to approx 63g of rice - suggested portion size is 75g.

I'm LOVING this less then 2 and a half minutes in!! "£6.00 weekly budget meal planner" (So [I assume anyway], people automatically think "oh, looks like my rice cooker doing overtime this week along with a good big pot of lentils and baked beans"..."OH! SO I THOUGHT FOR MONDAY, LET'S MAKE A SLOW COOKED CHICKEN DINNER..." That was honestly one of the BEST lines I've heard in a KZbin video ever!! I can so picture you on a night out in Paris and after a good party (like most of us do) say "lets grab something quick on the way back to the hotel, I saw a nice place that serves roast duck earler and they seem cheap enough" I think it was called Savoy something, owned by some Guy I think... XXXX But on a serious note...AWESOME vide and keep it up!!

Overall not bad. But I wouldn't be buying chicken breasts, very overpriced. I buy a whole chicken and portion it myself. It's a lot cheaper and you can even use the bones to make a lovely stock. Three of the best things I've bought was an Instant Pot, a soup maker, and my second-hand bread maker. The bread maker only cost £5 from the British Heart Foundation and it's fantastic. They seem to have loads of them in and they're so cheap to use. The bread is much better (and healthier) than shop-bought. The soup maker isn't really needed after I bought the Instant Pot as you can make far larger quantities of soup, but you would need to buy a stick blender.
@Addi592 жыл бұрын
😍😍😍 Doing this next week
@Griff13612 жыл бұрын
It doesn’t really cost £6 though does it because you don’t just buy 2 slices of bread or a 1/3 pack of spaghetti you buy the whole thing and then have to find a way to use it all, pasta is not an issue as that keeps for ages but veggies & fruits go bad quickly
@est-fm9ui3 жыл бұрын
Do you only have food once a day? I usually eat at least twice a day. 😅

I've just done ours for two months (2 adults) we use Aldi aswell. Their potatoes were only 14p per kg and chicken was 1.35 per kg so it's nice to see prices are coming down by a lot 👍 we do ours as 50p per person a day for all 3 meals & snacks but got some nice ideas from this
@BonMooney2 жыл бұрын
When you factor in breakfast, lunch, snacks and drinks, plus the fact that 5 days is not actually a complete week and that many people would not consider a can of soup, dinner, you're looking at at least £20 per person, so £40 for a couple, which isn't actually that cheap. I feed my family of 4 for less than that!
@ohwhatworld58513 жыл бұрын
I hate the narrative that healthy food isn't cheap. This video proves you can eat sensibly and it isn't expensive.

Sophie if you haven't already done one, could you maybe do a homemade chip recipe vid please? I know they are so much better for you than oven (and cheaper) but mine always turn out greasy and underwhelming - maybe using the wrong oils etc.
@oxybrightdark87654 жыл бұрын
Lauren Sneddon try tortilla chips! It’s just cooking a tortilla in the oven and adding flavours after
@angelajohnston73323 жыл бұрын
It’s best to boil the chips for 5/7 mins then strain the water and give them a shake in the pot with the lid on, spread them on to a baking tray using the baking paper and spray them with oil and salt n pepper bake 20 then turn and the same on other side spray more oil etc and they turn out soft inside crispy outside. Cook longer or shorter depending on the thickness of your chips also I leave skin on as they turn out nicer

I actually have subscribed to selected channels only and your channel is my favorite. It is always so relaxing and informative to be watching your videos. You are really an Aldi-gal to the core and I can't say, how much I agree with this, because I'm a Hofer-gal (Austrian name for Aldi, I think I've only mentioned this a 1000 times 🤭). But they really have what it takes to enable a life on a budget. And by the way, I love the pen you're using in your video. We in Austria haven't had a monarchy since the end of World War I and I don't miss it, but I am a big fan of Queen Elizabeth II, she is such a remarkable lady. I'm not a particularly religious person but God may save her! And God may also bless you, your family and your inspiring work which I consider to be art! 😊

That's all good if your healthy. But as a diabetic myself I have to pack in more protein, lots of veg and watch my fruit intake as it has high natural sugars which spikes my glucose. I have no carbs other than from my veg , beans n nuts. No junky snack or fried food. So my food shopping is expensiver as I have more meat, fish. I love fresh baby leave spinach which I can have 3 massive bags a week, on top broccoli, long beans, pepper. Anyone can live cheaply on high carbs bread, noodles, pasta, rice etc if u don't have health problems or on benefit and aren't diabetic, its also filling. Not everyone can save money.
