Well I got one of these again after not seeing this type of failure in years. In this video I do some of the common checks for these codes and some of the not so common checks in the end all it was is a plugged port that could have cost some real money to fix had new parts just been thrown at it.

Worked like magic. Cleaned the MAP port and the EBP sensor pipe with a length of weed wacker line and carb cleaner. Runs perfect and no codes! Thank you.

Dude your the man, after 3 certified mechanics told me it was a bad turbo, bad computer and go to the dealer. I came home and did this and no I have 0 codes 👍

Got a new turbo because I didn’t know this but once I did this it fixed it also it’s a 14 mm socket to pull the port and clean it

Hi friend thanks for your videos has been so helpful for me...but I have a present problem with my 06 powerstrok. 6.0 e350 when is cold runs very good but when get hot feels like no power started getting acelerated and is not going. I did change ebp sensor and egr valve and still give this codes p0402 p0472 please if you or any one on this videos have any idea what can be thanks...

I was about to roll my truck off of a cliff after cleaning and eventually replacing the EGR valve. Cleaning the EBP tube and replacing the EBP sensor. Removing and checking my entire set of air pipes and hoses. As well as replacing the MAP sensor hose. I cant believe I didn't think to clean out that little opening in the nipple. Thank you so much for posting this video. I just got home after pissing off my neighbors. My truck is screaming up and down the street!

Hello, I get a PO299 with a check engine light usually after a cold start. The truck runs perfect and actually strong with 28 #s of boost. I have replaced the MAP and egr with aftermarket parts but still will throw the check engine every other day. Once it starts and runs for 5 minutes your good for the day. I will check the egr again. The truck has 55k on the odo.

Dude I was JUST ABOUT to go buy a turbo. And then I saw this video. Mines doing EXACTLY what you just said. I’m getting -0.2 - 0.3 psi boost under full throttle.

One suggestion pull that port out and clean it so you don’t knock that crap down into engine it’s real easy to take it out and clean it

What about a no power solution? Hit my brakes driving 50 lost all power rpm’s went up but couldn’t go. Coasted into a church parking lot idles good and can start right back up but can’t move. No power. Found power steering over flow out of reservoir. 2006 f250 6.0. I have no clue what to do. New to the 6.0 game.

2006 f250 deleted here, what would cause low power and HIGH boost(30psi)at wide open throttle? EBP sensor/tube replaced and no change.

I have a 2006 Ford E-350 Van with a 6.0L diesel and checked this port that goes to the MAP sensor. What would cause it to have a vacuum instead of pressure on the intake manifold?

Interesting this many years later this video is still helpful. I just started having this problem but it is erratic not happening until I drive about 100 miles. Then when I am stopped for an hour it goes away so I think I am on the edge of being plugged. And it opens up when the engine is shutdown. So I am waiting for a new hose and map sensor then I will clean this nipple. Thank you for the help.

Did this fix your problem because I think I'm having the same thing where it comes and goes could be a bad injector but the only thing is my scan gauge 2 is showing I'm getting good map readings

Hello TechMakuloco , I recently change the Egr valve in my truck , the old valve was bad and noticed the soot was kinda gooey , the cooler reservoir level are the same since I replaced the coolant and that was like 4 years ago any idea what could be the issue thanks for your help and educational videos

Thanks for the tip! Quick ? why didn't you pull the fitting out of the intake mani vs just pushing all the carbon back into the intake? Also is this the same thing that happens on the ebp tubes and sensors on the 6.0 ? I have a ebp code now trying to figure it out. Thanks!

The hard carbon just packs around the backside of the fitting and would all fall off anyway the intake just passes it through just like when you clean the passages on the egr in the intake. If you ever seen the inside of a 6.0l intake after 90k miles you can see this is no big deal.

I have a 2004 6.0 same exact symptoms but it comes an goes. Good 1 day . No power next day!!!! Over the last 3 months my mechanic replace the turbo, no improvement, the Fuel injectors,all eight(that was expensive). No improvement. Yesterday I saw your video. I went right out and found the MAS tube and removed it. No crug in the port! I turned over the tube and there was a huge crack at the 90 degree bend going into the port tube. I ran down to the dealer and got a new tube and its running beautifully. I can't thank you enough. John

I have a vt365 engine 6.0l . Similar to the power strock. Turns on. Idles around 500 600 a little rough. Rev up no problem. Shift to gear drive. Zero response. No throttle in gear only. Black smoke from tail pipe. Replaced the ebp sensor. Nothing. Unplugged the icp while running. Engine shut off. My next step is to unplug the IPR while running to see if engine remains on or shuts off. Any suggestions? Egr valve? I also do remember when the truck was running fine. Turbo bark noise. I still don't know if that was normal or not

Also. No check engine lights. 2 inactive codes. 1 inactive code for injector module unable to build pressure. And 3 of my injectors low to high side open. Inactive codes. Truck has only 44k miles.

SO....I checked the port which was fine. I did find that the hose itself was able to be pulled off by hand, brittle, with cracking and possible hole at the bend from the top of the valve when installed. I will replace this to see if problems persist .

I also have a p299 code. Just cleaned the turbo a month ago, it spools up fine. Tried rodding out the map "port" and hose. When it comes to idle the turbo momentarily goes back to normal and then VGT goes straight to 85%. It's like something is commanding the turbo to go wide open. No smoke when I'm in the throttle. Thx.

I have an 2006 6.0 and have the same code(turbo underboost), the truck runs fine and the turbo spools up fine but no flutter when i let off? any idea what it might be?

Hello, I have a 04 6.0 f350 with the same symptoms. Would cracked exhaust manifolds lead to the same condition? Regarding the lack of boost and shotty shifting. Thanks in advance for your time.

It definitely could. Need exhaust gas to Spool turbos and losing the Echaust gas can definitely cause Low Flow.

Do not use a coat hanger to clean the connector that's in ur manifold because you will push carbon down in the intake and will get stuck to your valve. Remove the brass fitting and clean it!!!!!

Have you ever pulled the egr valve on one of these engines and had a look inside the intake at all the oil and carbon buildup? If you had then you would not of made that comment. Please trust me I know what I am talking about after all these years of working on Fords.

I have a2005 f350 6 L and when towing under load the boost pressure goes from 29 to 20 back to 29 and back to 20. It sound like and back pressure valve opening , but I know the 6 liter does not have back pressure valve . Any tip on the cause of this ?

Hey bud my problems a little different I'm getting a misfire when I give it more throttle it goes away it's only when I'm barely touching the throttle I get this little stutter the more gas I give the better it gets what do you think thanks

I don’t normally work on diesels, but I have a customer with a 2007 F-350 6.0L powerstroke. Only code is P0299. I’m not familiar with these vehicles, but I figured I’d try to diagnose it. I’ll be doing another test drive first thing in the morning. I must be blind, but couldn’t find this map port unless this is located on the passenger side of the turbo. I was doing some research but couldn’t find much good information on forums or pro demand for myself.

I have exactly the same symptoms. Also my check engine light is on.Replaced the map sensor, cleaned the little hole like you are showing. But still no improvement . Just to mention that exhaust sound is funny not the usual low powerful. Any suggestions? Thank you 🙏

hello i have a 2003 f350 6.0 engine I have more than a week with the same problem and we changed the MAP sensor and another that goes back the turbo but still with the same problem when you drive the truck does not exceed 20 - 25 miles ... no power ... the turbo is dead if you can help me!! thanks

Well in this situation it is either low fuel pressure from a bad pump or clogged fuel filters is the fuel pump on the frame rail extra noisy, or it is from the map port being plugged as in this video. Have you cleaned the map port as in the video. Does the turbo flutter bad upon deceleration? Was yours one of those that had the 06e17 recall done on it?

No the flutter is all the turbo itself sticking.

So I just did a fuel pump and blue spring upgrade on my truck as well as a brand new egr valve. I make about 68-70 psi of fuel pressure under load. Today 1/5/19 my check engine light came on so I hooked my scanner up to it and it’s saying P0401 insufficient egr flow. And I have new ss dieselsite up pipes and the y-pipe and a new bulletproof diesel egr cooler and I did clean that map port a while ago. Is that the only thing that can cause that issue because I can’t think of anything else for the reason it’s acting up. And I’ve pulled the turbo went through it cleaned the vanes, unison ring and exhaust housing and rebuilt it with all new bearings seals and the 360 thrust washer. Just thought I’d pick your brain

I get the 0299 every morning-Once I start driving I hear the turbo spool up making me believe the vanes are sticking-I have an edge tuner and get a 0 EBP reading-I have read this might be the result of a computer flash. I have a 2004 6.0-It starts and runs great otherwise-I'm looking into a KC1.5 turbo for towing. My question is about the EBP 0 reading? I don't know if it is a result of a flash for my year or should I replace the sensor? Mapis 14psi

I have an 03 f250 6.0, check engine light is on, drives normally but slow acceleration trying to get to highway speed, light blue smoke on initial start up but clears up instantly afterwards. Any ideas what it could be? Truck is bone stock

I have an 03 f-250 6.0 no ce light or codes 270+ miles egr deleted. The previous owner had the hpop replaced. I have just been using android and elm 327. From everything I have seen all the values look good out side of the fuel pump duty cycle is at 100%. Fuel pressure was 60 psi so I’m thinking it’s got a blue spring kit. The horizontal fuel module didn’t seem to be loud. New filters outside of the trans. Cleaned and sprayed drivers battery got rid of the noise in the radio. It is intremitant will run like a top or it will act up have to have to hold it to the floor to start and ecelerate lift to shift and shutters if your at speed cruising almost violently. Just got the kids to bed heading out to check intake and change hose. Great video watched a lot of yours and Rons thank you. Merry Christmas and Happy New Year

Billy White Well I use my scan tool but you can just disconnect the negative battery cables for 10min or so.

I have a 2004 6.0 turbo boosts a lot and engine revs up to high but it moves really slow like if the transmissions wasn’t working right but it’s something with a sensor I think

it is the wires that feed power to the turbo they got hot and melted I got the same problem not along the turbo to work replaced up bad partner and you're good to go

Hello, 2004, f250 diesel, 250k miles. At 260k miles replaced head gaskets, at 280 replaced hoop, all 8 injectors from Ford Dealer, ipr and icp sensor, new turbo, new cooler and new glow plugs. I only use genuine ford Dealer parts. I have a gauge which I monitor the icp, ipr, ficum and sync. The truck ran great until a month ago. When at a full stop or just strolling down hill the idle and icp pressure spike up where the idle spikes up as well. Than immediately icp pressure drops and the idle spikes down to a point where it wants to stall. Icp and idle Kind of surges. I'm a farmer, always hauling cattle and feed. Spent alot of money on it and can't afford another truck.

Hey I have a 2006 ford f350 6.0. I had the charge air tube come off from the turbo. Fixed that but now the dealer is saying it needs an injector and a new fuel pump? It was running perfect before the charge air tube popped off. I took it back after some issues with the dealer (blowing smoke up my ass). Now what it's doing is exactly what the video is doing. I cleaned the turbo veins and that piece you cleaned with a coat hanger. Didn't fix it and it blows a lot if smoke out the back. So for shits and giggles I took off the clamp that hold the down pipe to the turbo (because you can hear the turbo somewhat spooling) with te down pipe disconnected it runs PERFECT! Could this be a clogged exhaust system? Any help would be great thanks!!

I have seen clogged cats before yes, I would do a fuel pressure test under load before replacing the cat though.

I have a p0046, p0470, and p0069. I found my turbo was always stuck on 14% according to my scangauge 2. I found the vgt wire was cut where it clips to the turbo. Fixed that worked fine all week. Now it's starting to go lower like 20-18% when taking off. Also my map reads 14.8 and ebp reads 20.4 at koeo. What could it be? I don't think the turbo is sticking I don't have a p0299. Thanks!

well it appears you fixed the p0046 code, the p0470 code you need an ebp sensor I see it is biased, clean out the pipe as well. For the p0069 I see the map is reading right but make sure that port isn't plugged at all then check baro psi reading on your scan tool and compare them they should be very similar

My wife's 2013 2.0 EcoBoost just tripped a P2099. The dealership said it was wastegate stuck open causing it and that the whole turbo would need replacing since the wastegate is a part of it. Is this correct? Or, can just the wastegate be replaced without having to go to the (huge) expense of a new turbo?

o i got a 2006 f350 with the 6.0l the 155,000 five speed manual that bogs down and spews gray to black looking smoke after i up shift after hitting 2000 rpm. The boost drops and it has a lot of jerking if i floor it but if i let off the accelerator and then get back on it it goes away til i up shift again. Think this might be a sticking injector?

trogenworm Sounds more like an egr valve sticking open. Only way to catch it before it sets a light is to check pid data on a scan tool.

Hello, Thank you very much for your help. I added a coolant filter system and I didn't notice that the hose was getting bent closed I rerouted the hose. That fix my engine error code.thank you again for pointing me in the right direction.

Where is this clogged port located at? I'm a new 6.0 Powerstroke owner. I have an 06 with 125K miles on it. I had my mechanic pull the code which was a P0299, low boost. I've cleaned the EGR and would like to clean this port as well. Thanks for your help.

Passenger front of the intake there is a black hose on it that goes to the map sensor.

hello, I have a 2005 excursion that I get P0229 with EGR codes. I have a delete so I understand the codes. I just had my heads done resurfaced and headstud, ICP, egr delete and a new "updated" oil cooler. I'd like to check this port out. Where is that port at? I will be getting a custom tune soon so I wont have EGR lights for much longer. Thanks

just got a 2008 ford f250 6.4 runs great 90 % of the time all of a sudden exhaust temp jumps to 1100and up and sounds like belt screeching . Plenty off power shifts fine just don't know much about diesel's . any ideas

i have a 2005 6.0. the oil cooler was 100% clogged so i tore it down to replace. cleaned the valley the best i could. put it back together and then had a no start. well turns out i got some gunk in the ipr valve. tore it back down , replaced the ipr and got it to start. at the same time i replace the egr cooler wich was a delete with a bullet proof non delete. i also replace my turbo with a new sinister garret powermaxx turbo with a batmo wheel , because i like the whistle. i cleaned the port & checked & cleaned the egr valve. i also replaced vgt selonoid connection with a new pig tail. the old one was broke and only had the prongs exposed. so now it runs but when cool ihave no issues with boost. when warmed up and at steady speed 40 mph , i loose boost. in comes on and off after warm up. when it cools it boosts fine.its also sluggish on take off and sputs out a lil bit of black smoke. again this is only after warm up. the truck ran fine before i tore it down. any help would be grateful

There is no programming needed for the new turbo? I have always heard these need a tune for the lag at the low end like your experiencing. I would contact them directly I really thing this is all related to the aftermarket turbo setup.

Come to find out I had a bad egr valve. But still have that sluggishness at take off. So I will contact sinister . Thanks very much. I have mechanical experience but never worked on diesels. Thanks to good mechanics like yourself who post on KZbin I was able to work on my own. Saved ALOT of money !! Thank you

Thanks for the video although im still having issues. The code p0401 still keeps coming up after i cleaned up he map port and even ended up changing up the egr valve, any suggestions what else to look into??

It can be the egr cooler mainly if it has never been changed but unlikely. I would replace the IAT 2 sensor on the top of the intake front drivers side. It is used to check for egr flow and they get caked up and wont register and sets the p0401 code.

Thanks for the tips FordTechMakuloco. I've got an 05 6.0L. 345,000 miles with an EGR delete. Mine was clean, but the hose is dry and firm. Going to change it, but still won't start. I have a codes P0299 & P0460, as well as an EGR code we ignore. Trucks been idling rough then shuts off, funny thing is, after a couple of days it'll start back up and run good, but it does start all over again and dies out. Any other ideas? Oh I checked the FICM key on/engine off at 48V and engine on at 48V. I'm not sure which way to go now.

Engine off my ICP was blank on my scan guage ii, 47.0 FMP / 14.8 IPR and 12.0 FLP. I'm rechecking my setting for the ICP. but this shows for PSI not volts correct?

It should show for both but it seems it is set to psi. Ok what are the readings cranking with a strong battery?

I had messed up the settings. at cranking it was showing 978 PSI, i changed it, nothing, still no start.

I have these same conditions till the engine warms up. I changed the egr valve, checked the map port everything is clean.Also have injector contribution problems with the number one and occasionally the num 5 injector. Where do I look now, the injectors?

Yes you have a sticking spool valve replace the objector

@@FordTechMakuloco I pulled all the driver side injectors and cleaned the tips along with the shuttle valves to clean any stickem. at this point i guess, I need to pull the passenger side. I'm not liking it as the heater/air conditioner box is right there in the way and I'm not sure how to remove the the dead plugs from the injection manifold..The new ones I have don't want to come apart.

Great video. You are so much better than that other video producer pushing his services. Question what causes this carbon build-up? My son's has a bust gauge. Would it show low boost on acceleration or does the gauge get the pressure from another source? His is fine BTW just stocking my toolbox-o-knowledge for when problems arise.

Oh you are talking about powerstroke help channel? That guy is all over the place. Well the diesel is naturally sooty and that gets into the intake side via the egr coming into the intake right by it. Over time especially with old calibrations it will cake up that port. At least its a easy fix. This port is were the map sensor get the boost pressure reading from and your boost gauge will show very little movement or not at all if its plugged.

FordTechMakuloco I didn't want to call that guy out LOL. He shows a few symptoms and then tries to sell you his headgaskets/oil. You show the stuff people need to know like tricks/tips/which way to remove things. Took me about 2 hours the first time to figure out how to replace the air filter. If you don't know which end goes first and how to rotate it it's a nightmare.

FordTechMakuloco Good to know for me his boost gauge will show this first. Thinking about buying a Scan II so I can base-line where everything is now while it is running good (less the #8 glow plug) then I'll know better what has changed if the running condition deteriorates.

I'm having the same P0401 code, the truck drives just fine, no power loss, etc. The cel goes off after a few Drive cycles and it'll come back on after about 20 min of driving or so. What's your thoughts? I was planning to do an EGR delete, but if I do I know it will illuminate the CEL unless I have a tuner to turn it off, but will it effect drivability in any way?
