Replacing the entire unit with NEW is your best bet especially at these prices:

A proper scan tool is needed for just about any 6.0L problem this is my recommendation-

You can grab the new seal kit Here-

Green O-Ring you will need for the air inlet pipe-

I have been doing industrial maintenance for the better part of 30 years. The video that you have shared is one of the most detailed, informative, and precise procedures that I have ever seen. I wish that just 10% of the work that I have performed would have came with instructions like these. But then again, the experience is what separates a true technician from a parts changer. Thanks for the video and the expert advice that you provided to make life a little easier for the rest of us. You didn't have to but you took the time to do it.

How do I know that the turbo is problem w engine? What if I replace it and still have same problem? What is my test b4 I remove? Also about how much time should this take? What is parts cost? I was driving, not pushing hard. A big BOOM under hood. No place to pull over, I continued driving 10 miles, reduced speed to home base, greatly reduced power. How do I know it was not something else wrong? Pressure pump u mentioned?

I have a question I am dying to get an answer for. My 2005 powerstroke has an intermittent issue with boost. Either starts and runs gr8 or boosts to 30 psi and smokes with crappy acceleration. If I turn it off and restart these a50/50 chance it will run gr8 like no problem. I have egr delete and new stock injectors as well as stock turbo and just the sct delete. I tried a block off plate on the egr valve. As well as cleaned it. No clue what or where to go to get to the issue. It’s got 248k and pulls wonderful when on point. Plz

Unless you are FordTechMakuloco or DieseltechRon RIP or a flat rate mechanic do your self a favor disconnect the batteries and remove the alternator. It is only 10-15 minutes extra and it makes so much more room to fight with the turbo that it is worth the extra time. Removing the alternator also lets you look at the belt and the pulleys at the same time which is especially important on a high mileage engine. Finding and dealing with a bad pulley bearing is a lot easier now than somewhere out in the middle of nowhere. Also it gives you a chance to inspect and clean the battery(s) terminals which could help to save your FICM so it really is a win win for just a little more work.

Hello, I need some help I hope you can share. I have an 06 f350 6.0. The bolts on the cold side of the turbo fell out, except 2. they were loose, and it blew the large rubber O ring. I pulled the turbo off. After I removed the turbo front the engine bay, I noticed a copper O ring laying of the blanket I laid across the engine to lay on. I looked everywhere to try to find its location.. I rebuilt the turbo clean exhaust and cold sides. Reinstalled the turbo. Everything works great. Good boost, no leaks, great. My problem... When it idles and when I immediately press the throttle It smokes, whitish gray. and has a fresh oil smell ( I changed the oil during the rebuild. ) There are No leaks. Where could that O ring/ washer come from? Is that my issue? Please email me at Dwight.sparks@ymail.com with any advise.

I appreciate your response. I myself have been working on these 6.0s for a few years. I have one currently that I am working on that has given me a lot of trouble. It is a vt365 international version of this engine in a heavier duty truck. This particular engine has injection control pressure problems. The power is low and the ICP runs at 90% under load and 90% while cranking during a hot start. I have changed the high pressure pump out twice ,once with a used pump and the second time with a brand new pump. I have changed the regulator out at least a half a dozen times. I have pressurized the W pipes on both sides with the regulator energized and also installed a dummy plug on each side to make sure that the system had no leaks with an air pressure gauge. I suspect base oil pressure as a problem. This engine, hot, will only produce 6 and a half to seven pounds of oil pressure while cranking. I tested another engine while cranking cold, It achieved 60 pounds of oil pressure. I also tore down the front of this engine and inspected the oil pump and regulator . I didn't find any problems there . As I said before ,I have worked on a lot of these engines and this is a new one to me. Do you have any thoughts on the matter?
@7674derek

Would you suggest that if I wanted to change the UP pipe that this would be the time to do it? Or is there more involved with replacing that pipe? I have already replaced the Exhaust with a Banks Turbo back system, that was a pain to get the 4" Pipe to connect to the turbo. The clearance was a big problem. Is there a way to know if I have the factory oil drain tube or updated one or should I just replace it to be safe? The vehicle is an 03 F350.

Hi, I want to thank you for providing a video that actually shows what we need to see. I am replacing my HPOP on my 2006 6.0 F250. My truck is worth about $8000, and the idea of paying $4100 because my repair shop (Motion Automotive) "thinks" it is bad, and guessing they plan to replace extra parts later. It has actually been fun. I replaced all the o-rings (80), on the injectors and oil rails. If the HPOP isn't the problem, I will replace the injectors. I just think you are great for actually providing a well made video.Thank you. You go Dude!

Great video. I'm currently doing a HPOP STC fitting change and oil cooler change on a 2005 Excursion, and I got as far as removing the CAC tubes and air filter/intake tube assembly before I ran out of light. I remembered reading how difficult finding the turbo mount hardware was due to it being pretty cramped in the valley. But this video, with all of the detailed closeups really helped me out. Hopefully I'll be able to get the turbo out tomorrow and be one step closer to getting her running again.

Thank you for the video, I've been trying to get to my egr hose and this worked, it took me almost a week because I've only had hardly any time to work on it because it's been -10 to 30 degrees outside

How did you get to the back passenger bolt for the mounting pedestal after the turbo is on? I was able to torque the other three bolts but can't get to that one with the turbo on...please help. Does that one really matter if I've got the other three torqued?

Small 1/4" extension set but if you cannot get to it the three in the front are more than enough.

On the min 8:28 and 12:09 you can see coolant sitting on the left side of the valley, where did that coolant came from? I had a mechanic fix a oil pump leak and now I have a coolant leak that originates on that left valley. The EGR has already been deleted. I can touch those to hoses and don't think is coming from there. please help

Your videos are the best, hands down! I had a serious oil leak coming from the firewall side of the turbo area. Removed the turbo and my down pipe is drenched in oil. Hopefully that's the problem?
