I was getting under boost codes, because of sheared oil, even though I use the best oil, and change it more often than recommended. I did a fresh oil change (Shaeffers supreme 9000), and the codes stopped. This didn’t show up on the boost gage on my edge monitor and the truck was running fine. I had no boost leaks, no vgt problems, and no sensor problems. I did have a MAF sensor fail on the intake a year later or so

That’s odd. I haven’t seen that. I use motorcraft oil in mine. Most of my customers use motorcraft or rotella. I’ve heard everyone say Schaffer’s is really good though but I don’t have it anywhere local to use it.

@@paulsperformance Motorcraft oil is supposed to be hydraulic rated oil, so it shouldn’t shear at the very high pressures required to fire the injectors. I don’t know of any other diesel engine oil that is rated for high pressure hydraulic systems . I also use 2 shots of revex, and amsoil bypass filtration. My “lower than expected boost” code never came back after I did the oil change that time.

@@rodgraff1782 only other oil I have used in my truck is royal purple which had done fine also but I stick to motorcraft when it’s available for these HEUI systems. I’m sure CAT makes an oil for those since they created these systems.

What is the squeal at time 3:50 when you started. I have an occasional P0299 when the engine is cold and I touch the accelerator before the engine is warmed up. Once the engine is warm I don’t have an issue. I have an Edge 3 monitor on my dash and wait till the VGT moves from 85% before I touch the accelerator. I have seen the VGT jump from 85% to 15% immediately after starting a cold engine. VGT solenoid or stuck unison ring?

I would check your veins. If it’s an oem turbo it’s likely that it’s due for cleaning. Most of the time they have rust buildup and heat can help free it up but it’s likely to get stuck one day and not move. You can split the turbo and clean the rust and soot off the veins. Not really hard to do and won’t hurt to try before going towards wiring or the solenoid because most of the time if veins are acting up it’s because of rust.

i have this code but its definetly not the turbo the thing works well but now the truck once it warms up idles down and won't go anywhere and just rolls coal. Could this be a possible sensor issue? truck sounds and runs well besides that

Yes could be a few different issues. This truck ended up being the EBP sensor
