Just a little note to say that YOU CAN PLAY THIS SONG! You can do it, you just have to practice, this won’t just come to you in the click of your fingers! You have to practice! It took me about 20 minute to learn the pedal notes along with the other so if your struggling, it’s ok!

@BenCully7 жыл бұрын
Considering you're self taught, your technique isn't that bad at all! If you just remember all fingers should generally remain on the piano at all times (don't let any hang off - talking to you dodie's thumbs lol) and remember to keep your fingers curled a little more (kinda like you're holding a small tennis ball) your technique and playing would improve substantially. Also moving your fingers up the keys slightly would also help and thumbs are great anchors so don't be afraid to use them - this will allow your fingers to progress more naturally with the melody if you use your thumb as an anchor or a sort of home base. Hope I don't come across as condescending, that's not my intent at all but hope this helps a little :) Great video, gorgeous song too !! Ben's school of piano technique OUTT
@scyythe4037 жыл бұрын
I think she might have been playing on the ends of the keys to make labeling the notes easier. It seemed like she was trying to keep her fingers out of the way so we could see the keys.
@BenCully7 жыл бұрын
scyythe scyythe fair point, maybe so! In my experience, most beginners I've taught naturally position their fingers lower down the keys as it is more comfortable at first but not the best procedure technique wise - it leads to slips and less control. Dodie's thumbs hanging off would also mean her fingers would be naturally positioned lower on the keys due to the fingers not being able to stretch. Only she knows for sure though lol

I watched this video in the middle of learning how to play a Radiohead song on the piano. It has been years since I've bothered with piano, so I'm sort of relearning. Anyway, I read your comment after watching the video and applied the "move your fingers up the keys" tip AND IT HELPED SO MUCH. Literally *immediately* made a difference for tricky part I was stuck on. THANK YOU.

hello dodie! you may not see this, but i really hope you do - i just wanted to tell you how much i LOVE 'you' {both the ep and you as a person 😊} i literally have not stopped listening to it since it came out - it is fantastic. it really really helped me one night in particular, i was laying in bed late at night feeling really down, juts sad and alone. so alone. i was listening to 'secret for the mad', and the lyrics: "there's nothing to right now but try, there are a hundred people who will listen to you cry. and i get that they dont get it. but they love you so much that you won't regret it' just hiT ME LIKE A TRUCK and inspired me to do something i NEVER thought i'd ever do - i reached out and messaged an older friend who i love and trust very much, and basically opened up completely {i always bottle everything up} and told her i am in a bad place etc and she responded so so kindly and we're gonna meet up and have a chat and i just feel so so so much better so THANK YOU. i am all the way in new zealand and will probably never get to thank you in person, so i really hope you get to see this so you know how much you and your music mean to me and have helped me. from the bottom of my heart - thank you dodie. 💛

I find this song so difficult to sing. The way you sing so softly fits you perfectly and you literally sound angelic but when i try to sing like that, my voice just cracks because I'm switching between my head voice for the higher notes and my chest voice for the lower notes and I'm not used to singing that softly. I'm more of a belter kind of voice (not saying I do it well because I do not) and I just admire you and wish to have as beautiful a voice as you.

When she said, 'you're getting louder, cus it's swelling; Panic attack!' I was so, so, relieved because that's exactly how I viewed that part of the song. Continuing to repeat the words 'I know that you don't want me here' is what I do in an attack. Just sit there and repeat horrible words in your mind, whilst at the same time trying not to make a scene and draw attention, even though you are close to tears and the same shade as a tomato. My Social Anxiety always makes me feel trapped but the song 6/10 always makes me feel happy because it's reassuring that someone in this world remotely understands.

Dodie, this song means so much to me!! I've felt all my life this way and I love the way you put this into words, into a song! It's wonderful and so comforting! This is why I love you so much, I know you don't know me but I feel like you understand me so much! More than people I see everyday!! Thanks for making me feel better!!!!
