6.5 has inexpensive steel cased ammo. 6 mm has high velocity and long bullet. Valkyrie allows use of standard 556 bullets and especially the green tip AP. Don't know if they like that one. The 556 was competition for 7.62 NATO. Originally a long range replacement for the M1 Carbine. With a three round burst it is equal to the 308. The Armalite is over engineered for the size of the rifle. It's meant to control full auto and prolonged high volumes of fire. The 30 round magazine size is intimidating compared to the tiny bullet. My preference is for the Grendel in getting the maximum out of the platform.

6.5 Grendal is king! Between the 3 of them, only the Grendal has seen Military adoption (The Serbian Military adopted it to replace 5.56).

I have had a Grendel for years and it's easy to find on any shelf if I don't want to load it and it's great for hunting as for the 224 everyone who's had one sold it because it didn't shoot accurately and as for 6 arc I don't know yet you have 6x45 great choice 6mm mongoose 6mm max 6mmar then 6x47 give it time and see if it's like the 25/45 no one uses

I have a 224 Valkyrie and it is very accurate willing to bet it will shoot circles around your Grendel. Consistent hits at 1400. No problem I will be on the Valkyrie train forever best long range round in my opinion.

I have a .224 shoots under half an inch consistently with factory ammo, that was at the beginning when the cartridge was working out the flaws they had the wrong twist rates. Originally all of them came with a 1:7 twist but wasn’t fast enough twist to stabilize the heavy bullets. You need a 1:6.5 slaps steel at 1K no problem.

The .224 would make logistical sense in a military context. It can do anything the 5.56 can and do it better without too much drawback on weight/size or magazine capacity. As a carbine, DMR, sniper or LMG cartridge, it fits all those roles pretty well.

@@youreright7534 It can be faster and flatter shooting than the other two and it can use the massive, already existing stockpile of projectiles. Better AP capability, hit probability and versatility for various roles as far as I'm concerned.

@@harrypeterson9287 it *can* be, but by those ranges, it doesn't matter because the rounds have 200ftlb of energy, it's a 22lr at that point. And the massive stockpile?? The longest bullets anyone uses in 556 is 77gr otms, which shoot like shit in valk. Meanwhile 6.5 and 6mm have had options for years and years and years. It's worse in every way but target shooting. A 100gr Grendel will be better at AP, but 6mm will be the best.

@@youreright7534 Who are you trying to kid? The Grendel is a lead balloon wearing lipstick. A 123gr SMK is coming out of a 16" barrel at what, about 2,400fps? The chrono doesn't lie. .224V still going to be faster than 5.56 from any barrel length with any projectile, I also don't understand why you'd want extreme heavy for caliber bullet unless for extreme ranges as a sniper. High velocity with mediocre BC easily trumps mediocre velocity with a high BC at typical combat ranges. Velocity defeats armor, barriers and causes bullets to punch well above their weight in terms of wounding. A 77gr OTM at 3,000fps is good out to 1,000 yards, flatter than what most short action/.308 class rounds are capable. That's attainable from an 20" DMR with factory ammo.

Why wasn't the 22 arc included is this comparison? I'm curious to see how it stacks up. Hypothetically an 18" fluted premium 22arc barrel is going into an upper tomorrow afternoon. I'm very curious and excited to compare it to another hypothetically 16" 5.56 😁

Zastava got a contract for Serbia for a quick change 7.62x39 to 6.5 Grendel rifle. Not saying Grendel is the best but with a guaranteed surplus it does make it nice considering the other two are not used in common military rifles

None of the above generated much more recoil than 5.56 and if you place the projectile in the right place, they perform about the same in real life. My state doesnt allow calibers below .24 for deer hunting, so I use 6.5 grendel and it works just fine at the distances my shots are taken. For brushy places I use something bigger. 458 socom is my brush/truck gun.

I have ordered more than two or three items from BCA, in the past. Just called to check on the status of an order for a single barrel due to the delay in shipping. He said up to 14 days to even ship a single barrel FedEx. When I asked if it would be cheaper to just cancel my order and go to a store and get a barrel, he agreed. $78.00 barrel, $25.00 shipping. and up to 14 days to even ship. I have defended BCA more than once, but now??? Hope they do not ship a POS now that I have said something against them.

All companies have shipping delays at one point or another. I’ve ordered items from BCA and gotten them in 2 days. 😮 I’ve also ordered items from Daniel Defense and haven’t gotten them in 90+ days. It happens to all of us once in a while. This isn’t really the right forum for customer service, their website and phone # are better ways to address a grievance generally speaking. If you’ve already talked to them and discussed then there’s no need to post your grievance here, sir. It’s not like they’re delaying your order intentionally…that doesn’t do them any favors. 224 Valk is dead! 6.5 for hunting is great but 6 arc is just as capable for hunting w less recoil and better ballistics. if you already have a 6.5 awesome keep it if you are new and choosing the 6 arc is the winner

.224 Valk is dead but not because it's bad. It's STILL an all around great round! As a matter of fact, it would make a fantastic choice for a Quantified Performance rifle. (As X-Ring stated, "If you're dialing, you're losing"). So in a scenario where you are shooting at long(er) ranges against a clock, the Valkyrie is awesome because of less recoil for follow ups, and the holds are less. Grendel is King! Cheap (relatively) and plentiful. Availability of steel case, AAC now producing it, and adoption by the Serbian Military (with the Zastava M19) means it's not going anywhere. If any round is dead, it's 6ARC. We are just in this place where nobody knows it yet. Hornady has cut it's legs off with the 22 ARC (which is really a 22 Grendel) AND there is the new 6MM Max which can still use the 5.56 bolt!!! I think 6ARC is awesome, but it's toast.

224 is a joke. At launch they were secretly using data from 24" barrels and comparing it to 16" or 20" grendel data. Also many states don't let you hunt deer with 22 caliber rounds. 6mm arc was a better concept, slightly higher BC than Grendel but it still can't hold up. Grendel is king and has been for years.

Well, Ruger makes an AR-15 SFAR that shoots the 6.5 Creedmoor, so it’s technically been “ported” to the AR-15 platform. Dunno how it holds up in the long run, but the Creedmoor is a great round. Very interested in 6mm ARC for AR-15 though…
