Relocating the PMD is the very first upgrade that should be done. The stainless steel oil lines are a vital thing. Wrestling these into place IS like a wrestling match. 1996 and up do run through a relay for the fuel pump. The aggressive Duramax fan really helps especially on hills. I would love to run a Fluid damper, cost in Canada, is crazy, so new stock ones every 100,000 KMs to be sure! We replaced our vacuum pump a while ago to be safe! Thanks for posting!

What’s the fluid damper And vacuum pump replacement for what? Could you explain please I might have to do that huh?
@dieselnation55510 ай бұрын
@jess100590 vacuum pump delete kit is for manually controlling boost levels or for mechanical injection trucks ( everything older that 94) you can do it on 94+ years as well. The fluid dampener is a harmonic balancer

Just bought a 94 chevy dually 388K on the ⏰ haven't checked for all the upgrades but do see a pmd relocation mounting deal done but they didn't tighten the 4 bolts to the aluminum bracket or any grease on either, they must have thought the gap between was good for airflow of the aluminum mount and electronic was better idk but I'm thinking I should fix like supposed to be as for the grease and aluminum to cool it. I'd hope they have done other upgrades especially the starting bolts and bracket, but you wouldn't think a few have had to be done with this many miles on it and the interior looks still new! By looking at this truck and engine and interior etc I would had guessed it to have had 50k on it , the truck was used at a carlot to haul a 3 car pull behind trailer bumper/hitch pull type units hauling cars and campers and such. For a vehicle to have this many miles on it and be so dependable, drivable, power-able for a 1990s build and with a 4l80 trans 💪I'm really amazed at the overall truck. I do have a 1996 shortbed Silverado that has had a nice lift installed and (I mean the good frame lift no cheap kit) it has a hot hod aluminum head sbc stroker engine with a muncie 5 gear trans , some older style cast iron centered type , with 14 bolt rear and front upgraded I'm sure to have been, 4wd I'm no too familiar with 4wd stuff name parts just know this stuff by appearance 😄 lol but I'd love to have that manual type trans in my dually or even better have the diesel 6.5 in the 4wd. But would rather just leave well enough alone ,never satisfied with anything I've got except this diesel engine,,,,,,,,but anyway let's see who read my boring post to the end and ask is this my final question possibly? Is 388k high miles and should all the bugs have been already found and resolved with this diesel engine by this time of 388k? Thanks and I did subscribe and hop to see you on my page, you'll never have ever thought one of those guys be watching your channel 😆 damn streetracers hahahaba thanks buddy and great to meet ya

Sweet hahaha and shes definitly up there my 599 block 6.5 took 503xxxkm before quitting on me lol and that was just a head gasket but id tighten down the pmd shes better secured in my mind providing its in a good spot too but yes man ill hop on your channel now lol and to answer your question yes 388k miles is a good bit for a 6.5 lol drive her till she quits i say

PMD’s generate their own heat, that’s why they need to cool. Not because of engine heat. They’re mounted on the side of the pump because the fuel flowing through the pump is supposed to cool the PMD. It obviously doesn’t, which is why people relocate them. The best solution is to mount the PMD on a heat sync in the bumper, where it will get airflow for cooling. Mounting it in the cab, or on the firewall is not an upgrade.
@dieselnation5552 жыл бұрын
As any electronic does but Its a combination of both indeed and when you live in a area like me where theres constant salt coming from the ocean and in the winter the plows use salt on the roads its a major issue with exposed electronics. in the cab is completely fine ive went on 16 hour drives and its been no more than alittle warm and same with under the hood of course theres better places but it beats the stock location besides if you were to get in a accident or even just beat the bumper up enough you can almost guarantee the pmd and harness will be ruined

@@dieselnation555 not digging you, but you are a perfect example of someone who has a good sense of what should be done, maybe a good instinct or also good mentors or good sources, but not quite the direct "Teach this to someone else" level , which is not at all bad. Im the great example of being able to explain something till blue in the face, but Where you are doing your upgrades and maybe got a few done, im still stuck at the learn everything there is to know stage of research lol. You remind me of a guy who I met when he drove up from Iowa to me in northern wisconsin for a predator engine. You arent a farm kid are ya? lol. I commend you for keeping a detroit engine alive. GM, detroit really should have jumped on fixing their issues in the 80s but they didnt have competition really(International harvesters in fords sold nowhere near until the 90s, when it was a little late for GM to catch up)

Zip ties!! I drive a over 400000 mile 6.5 work truck every day. Zip ties keep everything from touching something it shouldn’t. The 6.5 really sucks in my opinion. But the damn thing starts every morning and gets my service truck where I need it to be so I can’t really talk bad about it….

@dieselnation5552 жыл бұрын
Awesome man i just done head gaskets its a fairly easy job i must say the only thing is watching for cracks in pistons and cylinder heads when i done my head gaskets i found 7 cracked pistons the heads were fine so i built a 6.2/6.5 up from the bottom and its currently about to be put in the truck shell finally be rolling again lol
