i got a 98 GMC 2500 4X4 with a 6.5 that i would love to do stuff like that with. all my buddies got fords so i'm the lone 6.5. so i love the video showing some 6.5's having fun.

The PMD/FSD is the most common problem on them, always good to keep a spare. I've only replaced it once in the 7 years I've had my truck so far. Other then that just keep it maintained and treat it well and it shouldn't have to many big problems.

The 6.5L is a GM built engine with Detroit diesel insight on parts of it. GM did own part of Detroit for a good number of years.

@ford7700duncan The 6.5s in the video are all electronic DS4 pump trucks. earlier 6.5s (92/93) are mechanical DB2 pump.

@rockinbass01 besides the earlier 6.2 models, the 6.5 and the 6.2 share same injectors. I get 16-17 mpg average iirc

The GM-X Turbos don't quite whistle as much as other turbos would, but open up the intake a little bit (I have an AFE intake system) and open the exhaust up (3" downpipe and 4" exhaust).

In the video, the crew cab was a 2000, the white reg cab was a 1998, and mine is a 1995.

no not yet im having alot of Pump related problems idk if its the PMD or the injection pump the injection pump is original but the pmd was relocated and replaced on the intake manifold but i think it over heated and is giving me problems now i may have to replace it again and move it somewhere less heat exposed but i will get a video of it on here one day lol

@Camscape I've seen a 6.2 non turbo get from 18 to 24 mpg. I own an m1009 cucv its the blazer version and has a non turbo 6.2 and it gets around 19 or 20

@randombk82894 in your opinion would it be smart to stay away from them? I really like the 88-00 chevy and gmc duallies and also want a diesel but if the 6.5 is a hard motor to want to mod then should I stay away? like would upping the boost a lil or tuning it be a handful?

I have a 6.5 TD in a K1500 stock and it has given me soooo many problems. Have you replaced your pmd? Its what gives your truck fuel.

the issue with the 6.5L engines were in the first days of it coming out to early 1996 the issue was that GM only had a single thermastat on the engines which would over heat the engine. late 1996-2001 they fixed that problem and they put to thermastats to help cool the engine

Not all 6.5s had a vacuum pump from factory. Most after 1994 had them, yes. Many people (like me) also remove them.

Some sweet rides there. I love me a 6.5, people say theyre no good but who cares what people think. 6.5s are badass workhorses. My old mans got a 6.5 burb and we would winch trees outta the bush, fill the whole thing up+ a trailer with firewood, haul boats and travel trailers, and un-stuck anyone, it made for some fun times. Theyre just not a performance engine. Where in Canada are ya?

I always say my trucks pretty much stock haha... I have Heath Diesel's tune on it 3" downpipe, 4" exhaust with 5" stacks TurboMaster (from Heath) AFE Intake I also got rid of the stock "S" (EGR) intake and installed an "F" intake I'm sure there's a couple other things I've done but can't remember off the top of my head. Plan on seeing a new video sometime this summer... not sure when.

Jonathan Thiem the get hot fast mine for the most part loves long distance travel gets good mpg for a dually running 33" tires still get 17-19

@keith91z28 they are not hard to mod but the pmds on them like to overheat which can be fixed by relocating them..if your going to really mod your engine get a 12valve cummins..the 6.5s arent the worst diesel engines to mod but they are harder to tune

these are reliable trucks as long as you keep them stock.once you put even the smallest mod on them they get pissy
