2002 Chevrolet Silverado 2500 4x4 6.6L Diesel oil cooler.
Antifreeze was leaking from where the oil cooler mounts to the engine block. Instead of just replacing the gasket, we replaced the entire oil cooler assembly.
You can do the job without removing the studs, but it will be much easier if you do remove them.
As with most jobs, this was my first time replacing one of these oil coolers.

Your year might be different, but here are the gasket part numbers I used. Water pump to pipe gasket: GM part 97188663. (an equivalent is available aftermarket). Coolant pipe o-ring: Mahle 72224 (available aftermarket). Oil cooler to adapter gasket: GM part 97192666 (equivalent available in Fel-Pro set ES73231). Oil cooler adapter to block seal: GM part 12709792 (equivalent also available in the same Fel-Pro set ES73231).

It’s actually helpful to see the struggle is real. I have the kit ready for mine, not looking forward to it it BUT, being 2WD I think mine will be a bit easier. All I’ve seen shows taking out the studs is the best way, so at least that gives me an advantage for the struggle. Thanks for the vid.

Awesome video... right to the point with great info the way everyone should do them! Besides taking the studs out is there anything else you can think of that would make this job a little easier? I was noticing you were working around that front drive shaft and didn't know if dropping that would make it a little bit easier for access?
@jtandrews3
@jtandrews3 3 ай бұрын
Yeah, dropping the driveshaft would get you more room.
@Nick43481

Why didn’t you take out the front driveshaft? Seemed like it was in the way most of the time, unless you needed it to support parts before bolting?

I guess I'm so used to things being in the way, since it didn't look like it had to come out, I just worked around it.

What was the reason for you changing? Did you have a coolant leak or oil?
@jtandrews3

@@jtandrews3 thank you, I have the same issue , was it the aluminum housing that mounts to the block? And if so what gaskets did you get to repair?
