LB7 Oil Cooler Install Ep. 42

Oil cooler install on a 2002 Chevy Silverado 2500HD. It was a messy job and 4wd made it difficult. You must have a 12mm wobble socket to do this on a 4wd. 2wd will be much easier. Take care on the stud extraction and install.

From the videos I've seen, removing the oil cooler on 2006/2007 Duramax LBZ seems much easier, and they removed it from the right side and came in from underneath the engine.

I’m having the issue of the bolt near the stud that has little room to work with. That bolt is rounded out. Any suggestions on how I can get this off?

If it's the one off the water pump to the tube you can just remove the stud with an inverted torx socket

Removing that stud did have me concerned about snapping it…lol. 2WD significantly easier.

My issue is the bolt inside the tight space area is rounded out. I can’t get a flex adapter inside there . Any suggestions? I have a 2wd.

What a job! 👍👍👍 Other sources say 8-10 hours. You? Now that some time has passed, did the coolant in oil issue resolve?

I'd say 8 is fair if I had to do it again----which may be soon on my personal LB7 but its 2wd so it should be easier. There was some fuel in the oil from one of the HP lines. But for now both Oil and Coolant are clean.

Would having a lift kit help access some of those bolt you were having trouble with

Don't think so as I believe the IFS lift kids raise the diff with the truck....could be wrong though. Whatever would make more clearance from the differential to the block would help.

2nd Momentum Garage either way it was pain in the ass, I actually pulled the drivers side manifold off and replaced it with a new one, made getting the oil cooler and cross over tube out way better, if not you have to loosen the engine mount up and raise the engine

Yes a lift kit helps, the differential is dropped down lower than stock. What you can do in this situation is unbolt the differential and lower it about an inch to give a little more room.
