Lucky, very lucky. I overhaul these motors for the bus companies on a daily basis. Major top end problems are dropped valve heads, valve seats and broken valve springs. Cracked heads are common, hence the dropped seats. If a valve has dropped, it often cracks the cylinder wall as the piston pushes sideways. The plastic keeper on the rocker is not available separately, but later rockers have that part deleted and the cups are held in place by swaging. The correct torque for the rocker hold down bolt is 36mm. Valve settings as per manual for your motor spec. Usual bus settings are 10 and 20 thou. I set them at 9 and 19 to let the new parts bed in a little. Note the engines I deal with have often got more miles than the starship enterprise, so don't sweat it with your motor.

Yeah buddy she sings like a canary and purrs like a cat in the cream jar. So happy for you, I saw that rocker thing on a cat engine way back in the years. Old dozer had a million hours figuratively speaking and the quick fix was to un hang that valve that was open and run it off the hill and down to the shop for a winters project. Saved that cat and we was able to close up that road so the forest service didn't have a problem with us for next year/LOL. Great save and fun for me, felt like I was there listening to you coach me like when I started pulling wrenches for dad... he kinda cuffed you if you made a mistake twice. Thanks again for sharing

200k isn't much mileage wise, last fleet I worked for had a little Sterling flatbed with the same 6.7 in it, last I recall it had well over 600k on it and it was still running great. While I was there I cleaned the gunk out of the EGR system and changed the water pump and tensioner so it would quit eating belts, but other than that it still ran great.

I'm not a Cummins expert but I think that was the exhaust valve bridge, and the reason for it popping through the intake was it not exhausting the gases out of the cylinder because the exhaust valve wasn't opening and when the intake valve open all the pressure built up and was escaping through the intake valve.

I don't know if you've found out yet or not, but you can't buy the valve keeper separate from the rocker. you have to buy a whole new rocker and you need it for accurate valve lash and rod travel. @@j.c.smithprojects thats because those fleet co. bosses dont want their mechanics wasting their time diagnosing problems, they only want wrenches turning. watched 1 truck go from 1 mechanic, who diagnosis a seized motor correctly to a second mechanic, who spent a week, starting to diagnosis what part seized in that motor, then got sent to the dealership comes back a week later with the same seized motor diagnosis, and sits for 4 weeks before the motor is replaced, by a 3rd mechanic. most scan tools for medium and heavy trucks are very expensive to own and to keep current. if you just want a code reader than can show some data, there are some inexpensive options....what are you looking for in a scan tool? that truck would not be my first choice. i would prefer a 2007 and older dt466 or a 6.7 cummins in that international. maxxforce engines have a much higher failure rate than the others i mentioned.
