Consider a processsor XYZ with 16-bit address bus and 16-bit data bus . XYZ provides support for virtual memory and demand paging. For logical to physical address translation, the first 8 most significant adddress bits corresponds to the page number and the last 8-bits are used as offset. Q1 : # of pages? Q2 : size of one page?
@sannanahmadbhatti44918 жыл бұрын
I got pages = 256 size = 512 bytes but answer key is giving 256 bytes answer. plz help. which is correct and why?
@White0Door8 жыл бұрын
# of pages = 2^8 = 256 size = 2^8 = 256 8 bits are used as offset so the number of addressable unit/instruction in page will be 2^8 that is size of page

I have a doubt, how are 10bits arranged in an 8bit space? Would the extra two bits be arranged in the next partition? or the bits are arranged in vertical array?? Please answer.!
@thefirst37626 жыл бұрын
Krishna Prasad same doubts
@adityamulgundkar5 жыл бұрын
Krishna Prasad, Dip Barman The 10 bits are used to address 8 bit data. Let me put it in a different way. Forget the 10 or 8 bits. Think of it like this: You have 2^N empty houses and M people live in each of the houses. Here, each house has a binary address (some combination of 0 & 1). The number of bits we would use to represent the address would then be N. I.e. we use N bits to represent 2^N different houses with a capacity of M each. If you understand this analogy, replace N with 10, 2^N with 1024 = 1K, M with 8 bits = 1Byte. Therefore, total memory space used = number of houses * number of people in the house = number of addresses used * capacity of each address = 2^10 * 8 b = 1024 * 1 B = 1KB

Hello Sir, Head down for your contribution and dedication. Sir I have a doubt regarding total size of memory. Total size of memory should be = PT + Frams size in the example in this vedio size of Frams is 1KB and we also have a page table which contain exactly same number of entries of Frams which is 1024. so total size may be = 10bit ×1024 + 1KB I am correct??

@aniketpadhy66415 жыл бұрын
sir, here we are having 10-bit address bits that's why we are using 1024 number of location but here why you had taken 1byte for each address but it needs to be 2 bytes as 10 bit>8bit i.e. 1byte

I have doubt ... first you say 10 bit size and created 1024 spaces later you say 1 byte size and 1024 location but 1 byte means 8 bits can create 256 location only also in 10 bit size how you place 1 byte address...please reply
@sagarkumar01906 жыл бұрын
sachin chavhan 10 bits are used to access 2^10 location which means 1024 location. Now let's say if each location is byte addressable means that each location out of those 1024 location has 8 bits that is 1 byte. So there are 1024 location each having memory 1 byte results in 1024byte. Hence it is called byte addressable.

One doubt sir, If we have 1byte of block then, how can we store 14 bit address ?? Because 1 block of 1byte can store 8 bit address!!
@ayanmondal40784 жыл бұрын
The address is of 14 bit and so there are 2 to the power 14 blocks in main memory. If the main memory consists of 2 to the power 14 blocks then the total size of main memory is (2 to the power 14 )* 1 bytes= 16384 bytes= 16kb .

how can we store a 10 bit address in 1 byte = 8bit can u please explain
@neha03764 жыл бұрын
In 8 bit (1 byte ) we are storing data (instruction) and the address of that instruction is 10 bit long With 10 bits we can generate 2^10 =1024 addresses and each address points to a memory location of size 1 byte (8bits) Now if each memory location is of 1B and there are total 1024memory locations Then total memory size is 1024 locations × size of each location 1024 *1B =1KB Example ) Your house address if 14 and size of your house is 600sqft Now if there are total of 40 houses in your area then total size of the area will be 40 × 600 = 24000sqft
