I got the Browning 6.8 Ovix Max LR 26in fluted barrel. I have it mounted with the Vortex Strike Eagle 5-25x56mm Rifle Scope. So far I've been shooting Winchester 6.8 Western Accubond LR ammo. Like you I shoot 3 shot groups each but mine groups with this rifle are quarter size groups or smaller on average at 100yds. Every now and then I will have a flyer but that's my fault. So far out of 180 rounds or so fired through my 6.8 western, Browning has not disappoint but produced my best ever shots and shot groups.

I have a Marlin 917v that I couldn’t get to shoot under 1” groups at 50 yards. Had a gunsmith look it over and he said it was a stock issue. I purchased a Boyd’s stock for it and now I get 1/2” groups at 100 yards. I’d be curious to see what it does with a better stock.

I was thinking the same, except I was wondering about the torque of the action screws into the stock. It might be worth checking and retorquing before abandoning ship on the rifle .

I've got a friend that has a Browning 25-06 and never could get it to group at 100 with anything. He got mad and was gonna wrap it around a tree, throw it in the bushes, etc. I showed him the soft bushes I wanted him to throw it in. He was that guy that wanted to shoot bullets that looked good to him but his gun hated. You're getting into reloading and I'll bet that if you find some Barnes TTSX in the 160 to 180 grain range with the right powder that the 6.8 will be one of your favorites. It's kind of a new round but if you go through the same steps you took in the reloading course you may be surprised. The first time you reloaded anything you went to over 1400 yards. Anyway love the videos hit or miss. You keep it real.

Its the rifle not the ammo, cheap rifles don't shoot well, you can get lucky and get a good shooting cheaper rifle but if you want perfection you buy a good rifle, its worth to wait and save up a little more money to buy the better rifle, and of course optics. Sometimes you just get a barrel that is flawed and won’t group. I have been watching every 6.8 site I can find and others are having good success. It should be noted that the one group wasn’t bad, so you may want to run another test with that ammo and see if it will zero.

One reason the 162 copper impact may have shot better is because, being copper is lighter than lead the bullets are longer to get the same weight, which would increase BC
@marcmoore4115 Жыл бұрын
The BC makes no difference at 100m. In fact even within 250m, it makes near bo difference. In professional Benchrest at 100m and 200m, many shooter use 6mm's with 60-80gr bullets going fast, rather than 105-115gr high BC bullets - and they win national and even international Benchrest matches!

Just a suggestion: Save your brass and load your own boolots. I did this with my varmint rifle, a 22.250. Before, that rifle was all over the target, I could have hit the bulls-eye easier by throwing the rifle at it. Every factory round I tried in it was inconsistent. Remington, Federal, Winchester...didn't matter. I thought the rifle was flawed but a local gunsmith said it looked okay. He did glass-bed the action but that was it. A friend who reloaded worked up some test loads for it and the difference was unbelievable. I now had a rifle that shot consistent sub-1" groups at 100 yards.

I commented a few weeks ago. In the past couple weeks I finally got a XPR Hunter in 6.8 Western. I was zeroing mine and was using a laser bore sight, I didn’t get my bore sight tight in the barrel for my first shot. Not good. But the next two shots were right on. I was using the 162gr copper impact. I’ve had to reset my scope sense the zero. The cross hairs were a tiny bit canted. I don’t have a level for that. My XPR likes the 162gr. . I hope Winchester / Browning starts pushing the ammo because the copper impact is all you can get right now. Sometimes you have to pick a grain weight and zero and just use that. Trying different weights can affect the zero. The 6.8WST is a very good round. I personally could not be happier. Thank goodness because these “bulots” ain’t cheap. Remember, this is a “hunting” rifle. Big difference between a rifle built for competition and a “game” rifle.

I don’t know how reloading supplies is in your area or your personal stock. It would just be a check. I did also get a 7-08 winchester xpr for my wife. Great channel, brother! So, this video is a about a year old and we should put it into perspective. This cartridge has been out a little over two years by this point and to be honest, it just did not catch on. Otherwise we could go to W-Mart and pick up a Savage Axis or Ruger American chambered for it at the $400ish price level. What can you find in that price range? The .270 Winchester! The cartridge that I believe the 6.8 Western aimed to improve upon. Conversely, the creators (Browning/Winchester) have not been able to convince the market that this is a viable option. Competitors in the factory ammo market have not released any products for it either. Rifles for the "glamour" cartridges such as the PRCs and new Creedmoors have more options. I believe that unless other manufacturers jump in to provide more options in this cartridge, it will go the way of the Do Do.

You are NOT a bad shot! I would call Winchester to find out what the minimum accuracy standards are for the XPR. Rather than stew over what might be a bad product, I would call the people who built it and get some help. This has been some years ago but I pulled apart a box of factory ammo and weighed the powder charge in all 20 cartridges. There was a one grain variation in just one box. That could make a big difference in the point of impact. Cheers!
@joelmorgan18712 жыл бұрын
Especially ammo being cranked out this year. I bought some ammo in 2019, shot same hole groups, bought the exact same ammo this year and couldn't shoot less then a 3" group at 60 yds, loaded up some left over ammo from 2019 and again same hole groups, so I pulled all the ammo from 2022 apart and what I found was inconsistent powder charges, 3 different cuts of powder in one box and drastic variations in bullet weights. Their cranking out ammo so fast to catch up from the last 2 years I think their lowering their quality standards to get more out the door. That just a theory but the ammo from 2019 was pretty consistent with bullet weights, powder charge and the way it shoots. All the stuff I got this year from various mfg in various calibers does not shoot as accurately as some of the same stuff I picked up 2 years ago. The only ammo I bought this year that is consistent and shoots great in my rifles is norma whitetail.that ammo shoots great in my rifles

@@randall3241 that's a matter of perspective. It's subjective.

@@randall3241 I have been reloading for 38 years and 1 grain of powder can be 4 1/2 to 5% of the powder charge. That can change the velocity significantly of a. 308 or 7mm-08. So can case brand. I have seen in with my own eyes. We are talking about reloading? Factory loads are not weighed out on a balance beam scale. I don't think Adam's 6.8 shot poorly with regards to Factory ammo.

Do you have any other XPR’s? I have one too I haven’t gotten very good groups either. But I’m new to shooting and haven’t tried many different ammo yet.

I like to say its the rifle but I think it be a my suggestion, i would try to reload this caliber it may be very problematic cartridge it may need fine tuning to that rifle.

have you tried running a dollar bill between the stock and the barrel to check clearance? that and make sure the crown hasn't been damaged. Re-bedding the stock also wouldn't hurt.

Yes

I think it's the barrel bud maybe not broke in or rifling isn't engaging the projectile right

One thing to consider - the XPR rifle action isn't bedded to the stock. Most all budget rifles aren't. And for what most folks do with them, they still work perfectly fine - even your worst group in the video is still gonna put meat on the table. 😁 But now if you want to hit dimes at 100 yards, or hit the same part of the heart on every animal you get, you're gonna need to upgrade that stock at least. You could bed what you have with some JB Weld and be out a few bucks and a day's time, and possibly be driving nails with it. If you were to step to a Browning, I'd recommend their X-bolt Stalker or Stalker Long Range(Stalker has a 24" barrel, Stalker Long Range has 26"). They come with the action already glass bedded, and they're not stupid expensive - although at around $950ish they still hurt to buy.

maybe now that you are reloading you can try to make some ammunition that the gun will like. Great vid keep up the great work
