Well when it comes to the creedmore, the thing to realise about the round is that down range energy wise, its just a slightly improved 6,5x55 swedish mauser.. i know ballistics,precision blah blah blah, but it still hits like a 6,5x55AI within reasonable hunting distances aka sub 250 yards or so.. here in norway for instance the 6,5x55 is legally considered the lowest legal big game cartridge.. and that in a normal length rifle barrel.. wanna chop a bit of the barrel off and install a suppressor?? well anything shorter than about 50-52 cm will make it illegal to use the 6,5x55 for big game here.. the western carries about 2/3 more energy downrange than the creedmore and does it farther due to superior b.c. get your buddy to load u up some .277 Barnes 129 GR LRX BT and get a gun that shoots like a 22-250 out to 350 yards and like a 240 weatherby magnum (the b.c. of the 6mm bullets being the point here) out to a thousand.. that u can hunt anything anywhere in america as a do all round that doesnt compromise on performance.. And besides, if u wanna try actually literally turning something as large as a coyote instantly inside out, then get him to load u some 85 grain or less varmint bullet.. Now try shooting ballistics gel or wet clay with one of those two latter suggestions and film it,,, i wanna see your entire range get sprayed by tiny flecks of clay EVERYWHERE lol ;)

Have used a 6.5 creedmoor on 3 elk and an eland so far. Killed em all in one shot. No probs. Beauty of that round is that 2 of the elk were shot by 2 of my kids under the age of 10. Also vastly superior if you sight your own hits. Never expected the 6.5 creedmoor to be the equivalent of my 30.06 or my 300 win mag. Then again i dont expect my 300 win mag to hit with the authority of my 375 hh. The 6.8 is bigger and faster. Not much of a revelation but cool nonetheless!

I remember when they hit the market... Almost impossible to get one local and definitely not a budget friendly gun but from what I've seen out of them, their bc outperforms 300 Win Mag, and many other rounds in it's class. Biggest benefit is it runs a short action with magnum power! I'd like to see what the 165 grain does to watermelon

@sleeper.simulant7327
@sleeper.simulant7327 2 жыл бұрын
It’s a .270 caliber yes, but with a much longer, heavier, loaded into the end, which equates a better BC and higher SD. Basically it’ll cut wind better and penetrate deeper than a .270 Win or WSM, and it will hit a little harder…

@sleeper.simulant7327
@sleeper.simulant7327 2 жыл бұрын
@@ashtonjanke3860 no it won’t, ballistically they’re similar in terms of velocity and energy at the muzzle, but the 6.8 holds energy and velocity better out to much greater distances, and the 6.8 has a high SD so it will penetrate deeper, and offers a much longer bullet so it’ll cut wind better.
@sleeper.simulant7327
@sleeper.simulant7327 2 жыл бұрын
@Paul no it doesn’t, the only area the 270 WSM “outperforms” is straight up velocity at the muzzle when using a lighter 130 or 140 grain bullet. The 6.8 is better in terms of cutting the wind due to it having a higher ballistic coefficient, it’ll penetrate deeper due to being heavier and having a better sectional density, meaning more reliable penetration… Spommer also didn’t say that the .270 WSM outperforms the 6.8 as it didn’t, the 6.8 held a clear energy advantage at nearly all ranges, and less wind drift especially over 500 yards. Within 500 yards the difference isn’t going to be that major though, a deer certainly won’t be able to tell. So don’t spread misinformation that the .270 WSM outperformed because it didn’t, I just read his article…

Personally, I'm a meat hunter and I'm not sure I'd appreciate a round that destroys that much meat! The Creedmoor would be a better choice for me. However, if I were a sniper wanting to get rid of a bad guy, the Western would be a great choice, depending on the range and other factors! Great video! Thanks! Already have a hairy chest and, at 69 years old, I've shot them all! Knowing which one to use for a specific job is THE POINT! Not every gun if an EVERY gun! That's why there is still caliber research and design! IF there was ONE gun that did it all, THAT is the one we'd all have! Thanks, again! You always say, "this is going to be a really fun video," and you're always right. I never really looked much at the 6.8 Western because I saw it as, just another cartridge to sell more guns. Or you could say, just another flavor of the month to sell more rifles. While I believe this is true, it still does not disqualify the cartridge for being interesting. That Winchester looked like it had at least a 26" barrel which would instantly disqualify it from being my rifle. That 6.5CM in that Ruger American, very good rifle, looks like a 22" barrel or so and typically the longest rifle I would carry. There again, I'm a short little fat guy that doesn't like carrying guns that long. Thanks soo much for your great, fun video's WHO-TEE-WHO.

I’ve had the RAP 6.5 Creedmoor for several years and absolutely love it. Two of my kids my wife and I all harvested some nice mule deer bucks last year with it. I wouldn’t hesitate to shoot an elk!!! But as it goes with so many hunters in the family I needed another rifle. So my wife as amazing as she is purchased a Browning hells canyon max long range in the western for my birthday. I shot it for the first time yesterday and was very surprised at how well that rifle manages the recoil. I will have to do some side by side shooting with them again but I really felt that that browning kicked less than the RAP with 35 grain heavier bullets. I should mention that the RAP has a modified stock. It has aluminum bars in the for grip and every bit of hollow is filled with fiberglass and resin. It is considerably heavier than the browning. Thoroughly impressed with the western in that browning. You are one of the reasons that I had been talking with my wife about them!

I also have the 6.5 Creedmore Hells Canyon Max Long Range, And as the 6.5 is a very good target round but also a viable hunting round when bullet type is selected properly. Expansion with great speed at a reasonable distance is where it's at period , the 6.5 has most everything you need and the 6.8 is a fine cartridge which most likely works better on elk. But if you want to play 6.5 then call no other then Wetherby 6.5-300mag the fastest 6.5 and you can put those clay blocks together, Weatherby don't like being out done, but you have to pay to play !

Ok, time for a new business opportunity: after you shoot that clay, put some colours on it (whatever is left…) and throw it in the oven! New WTW art sculptures! Nice thing is if it gets damaged in the mail… you won’t know about it…

Would love to see the 6.8 stacked up against the magnums, especially the 300wsm. Milk jugs? 6.8 would be a great one to take deer hunting too. Surely wouldn’t smack them like the 338wm but probably nicer out at distance.

It was specifically designed for hunting deer and bigger game... Check out the videos from when it was released at the beginning of this year, good stuff!

Ok I have been looking at the 6.5prc other 6.8 and so far I haven't seen anything like this between those 2 but there's always hope lol. Great video and as of now it's a race to see what one comes in stock first lol.

6.5 Creedmore was designed for long range target shooting. Great hunting cartridge within its limits, but definitely not designed for game larger than deer. Oh, yeah, heart shot on Elk will still work under 300 yards, and there are probably guys who will brag about longer shots -- but it is simply not ideal. Your video demonstrates the overwhelming difference in power between a target cartridge and the 6.8 Western that was specifically designed for long range big game. Thanks

Thanks for reading my comment. It would be great to see a similar test with the granddaddy .30-06. I fully understand the hype and fascination with modern high BC cartridges, however, there is no doubt in my mind that .30-06 will blow that block of clay off the table as easily as the 6.8 Western, and with a lot more money left in the wallet !

The 6.8 Western is pretty cool! I was watching another video on it and reading about it, and I think it's a great new round that stabilize a large bullet at high velocities if you have a 1-7 or 1-8 twist! Probably wouldn't let my little Sophia or my grandma shoot it yet! I guess I can't let them shoot it, because I don't have one. The difference between the two rounds on the clay block was just night and day!

I bet if the 6.5 had a tipped bullet instead of soft point it would have expanded much faster dumping more energy in the clay giving it better show than the soft point

You make a great point about comparing like bullets. Maybe a little moot as the 6.8 is a beast. The whole point of the Creedmore is how it performs with a minimum of recoil. I wonder how 6.8 recoil compares to .308. Owning a .308 and 6.5, I can say the 6.5 recoil is substantially less.

It comes down to this: Where do you hunt? If you're in place where you might get clean shots on game out past 400 yds, that 6.8 is your ticket. If you're whitetail hunting in the east where you get a few shots out to 150-200 yds, I'll happily take the 6.5mm like a Swedish or a Creedmore.

What I would like to see is 270 vs 6.8spc vs 6.8 Western, using the closest bullet sizes you can get, which I assume is the heaviest in a 270 and SPC and probably the lightest in a Western. Given that they are all using the same .277 projectile I think it could be interesting.

I think the bullet tip on the 6.8 was set up to open up pretty fast; impressive energy dump! The 6.5 used a more standard lead expansion tip; just enough energy on most everything, plus boring in for depth. Great job Who_Tee!

@@joesita1992 i used the 129 gr SST superformance, which was the fastest 6.5 creedmoor loading (factory) I could find, but it's performance on live game, as compared to other cartridges, is perfectly illustrated by this clay test comparison. While the creedmoor did kill the game, there was nothing impressive about it.
