What's funny about the "golden" nug being red is that the test for purity in the middle ages was heating. If it turned heated red, it was pure, so "red gold" was another name for pure gold.

Bioware goes hard on all the codex material that you might bypass completely. The Dragon Age world is full of backstory and lore and little details and so is Mass Effect. One of my favourite things to do in Mass Effect is read all the planetary descriptions. All the planets in that series could theoretically exist and all the detail work that goes into those games is just SO awesome. Not to mention all the Easter eggs hidden throughout, lol.
@cygnata
@cygnata 3 жыл бұрын
One of those easter eggs is in the description for Mackay's Epic Single Malt, in the Bottles of Thedas quest. "This whisky is older than the Maker and smoother than elven baby-butt." In Baldur's Gate, the innkeepers like to say their "inn is as clean as an elven arse."
@jackson14431
@jackson14431 3 жыл бұрын
I think the exceptionally fun lore tends to come from the strangest places. For example the kingdoms of amalur and dragon age crossover armours for mass effect because they both elude to the Earth Urban Combat Championship which pits top of the line combatants and equipment against eachother with a fantasy-style theme to each team who share their region with the developers of either game.

The World of Thedas volume 2 book includes recipes- some jokes, some actually great. One is a recipe for making dandelion wine. Another is a recipe for a banana bread that is sweetened with molasses- that recipe is specifically what I've been using for banana bread ever since the book came out, its that good. So honestly I'm not actually surprised that the drink recipes are all pretty spot on as well- whoever they are hiring for their food and drinks knows what they are doing.

FINALLY!!! My all-time favorite game series!!! Also, the dragon age series had soooooo much more to it beside the romances, like trying to slay at least 10 high dragons and sobbing while trying to do so. But in all seriousness, the worldbuilding is absolutely amazing throughout the series and the little tidbits of lore that hide in the codex entries are *chef's kiss*. Does that mean I'm going to stop fantasizing about 2 himbo chantry boys with enough emotional damage to strangle a dragon? Hell no. Does that mean I'll ever stop siding with mages over templars? Also no. Now excuse me while I go get drunk because I swear by Varric's chest hair that I will do my next playthrough utterly TRASHED.

Somebody else said in the comments that red is actually appropriate. Apparently, a way that gold purity was tested in medieval times was to heat it, and if it turned a red color that was how you knew it was pure. Or something, I’unno. Pretty neat.

It really is a romance novel lol. Also Greg, would highly recommend the second Dragon Age. It's actually my favourite of them all so far. I think in general I just love the stories in this game - romance-based and otherwise.

Hey Greg, the new-ish direction you've gone in with punching in more when you're listing your tasting notes is a great addition! Is that a B-cam or are you cropping in off the 4/6/8k footage? Your colors have also been looking really good lately, skin tones in particular. Are you still shooting on the Monstro 8k sensor or did you get a new editor on staff?

About the raspberries: I believe you can seasonally find yellow raspberries, so those would impart the color you're looking for.

I just found this channel and it Prompted a 3 day rabbit hole journeythrough the video games and cursed drinks. My wife and I have laughed so hard at your tasting notes. Wonderful show. My favorite moment was you in an older video taking about playing video games with your daughter and telling your wife" I'm not just playing games...I'm parenting ". As a gamer and expecting a daughter in February I can't wait for bonding like that. Well done sir.

I feel like you include just the right amount of uncensored swearing to not need to censor yourself. You use them JUST enough for them to serve their point as a way to punch up and emphasize your point. Honestly just adds to how genuine your channel has always felt. You're not trying to tailor it to appeal to everyone, the appeal just comes naturally because it's fun and sincere.

In Game Golden Scythe is described as a impossibly cold battlefield spirit. Considering battlefield spirits in real life tend to be medicinal concoctions designed to numb the drinker to any upcoming pain I think the Benediction needed to be a tad less pleasant.

Reporting back - just made a version of Emerald Valley with 1/4 oz Midori and maybe 1/6 oz less Simple to try and balance the additional sweetness. I think the color is definitely nicer, kind of a creamy light green vs the hazy yellow-green the regular has. Flavor wise it's similar, but the aftertaste is a bit worse. You start with the nice mellowed out Chartreuse, but the aftertaste is almost entirely lime.

Cool. I love the Dragon Age series. Please do drinks based on the drinks from the game Monster Camp. Fireball is great, but my dad will never drink it again, when he drank waaay too much. I'd also love him to do a video on Disney drinks, recreating the drink recipes from the Disney Parks Cookbook.

Dragon Age isn't just a romance game though :( yeah it is romance heavy, but the world building is incredible. I've spent two hundred hours on my nightmare playthrough, I spend a ridiculous amount of time tweaking armor and weapons and spells, I have one of the most incredible teams built up. And I just absolutely love all of the lore. Its an incredibly detailed and well thought out universe

Not sure if anyone has mentioned it thus far, but for the Golden Nug there are such things as Golden Raspberries... That I never knew about till the missus found a plant going cheap in our local nursery. They're less tart than normal rasps so maybe they could work (tho not sure how widely available they are in the States)
