The format where you climb a boulder, break it down, and focus on one technique/tip that's essential to climbing it well, is pure gold. It really makes each boulder more interesting, and it's a very thoughtful approach that makes me psyched to go climbing and apply the techniques, and also to be more intentional and thoughtful in my approach to figuring out beta, even when climbing below my limit. Thanks for all of your hard work, your videos are among the best on youtube, and it's been inspiring watching you grow both as a climber and as a youtuber.

i had an ‚aha‘ moment last year where pulling yourself inwards made a huge difference on the start of the boulder. It was the first time i noticed that i pulled myself towards the wall on some attempts and didn‘t on others. I think this one boulder taught me more than all the others i climbed that week combined. Hoopers beta also loves to mention how important lower traps are, i think thats exactly the type of move that profits from well conditioned lower traps =)

I think the format is a great idea, Emil. It was rather easy to understand what you wanted to point out with your tips, because you explained them in a vividly manner, while also demonstrating them on the boulder. Definitely gonna try these moves and tips in my next boulder session.

Thank you Emil, this format is super useful. I guess it's quite useful to break boulder sequence into chuncks and analyse them separately. Too often we just climb intuitively and if we can close one movement we always think we need to crimp harder, but it's not always the case. Many thanks

i always like watching your videos. you are one of the few i like the video before even watch it. :P this was a little different that your apt videos, but very nice. one thing is to find old clips when you talk about a trick or tip. but if you also can show it directly like you did with the momentum of the leg. you showed a clip of you on "the dagger" were you used the momentum of your leg, and after you showed it on the problem you did indoor, as you did with the shoulder tension on last problem and at "dreamtime". i really like that way. sometimes your videos (for me) are like watching the best og the campus god climbing :P i love to see when you close impossible projects. but in this video, i felt that you were talking to me! i like that way of making your video. I've got two climbs at my own gym where I think the tips regarding momentum and slopers might help, so I appreciate that. I'm lead climbing not bouldering but I would think that everything here still applies, I'll see if I can use these ideas next time I go climbing in a couple days.
@Miles26545 Жыл бұрын
Did you get it?
@joshuawhere Жыл бұрын
@@Miles26545 I didn't, no, but I did make some progress. With the dynamic move I ended up finding a spot where I could put my foot to help with the move and with that foothold it's more of a deadpoint than a full dyno. I made the move that way but there's still more to figure out. Regarding the sloper climb, I made some progress earlier in the climb (before the slopers) but not much at the slopers. Possibly I could engage my core a bit more at those places, but not sure really. I was thinking of the advice regarding hips while I was up there, but I don't think I could have gotten my hips in any closer. That being said, I might try some different body positions to see if maybe turning in a different direction could allow me to use this idea better. Anyway, this week, sadly, I'm sick, so taking some time off from climbing until it's over :(

Always loving tips! Do you have something for skin management? I notice than with comp-style boulders you're sliding much more with the hands on the friction. How often do you suggest to practice them?
@EmilAbrahamsson Жыл бұрын
I do and I don't, because we all have quite unique skin so everyone has to figure out what works for themselves. I have very sweaty hands and feet, so what I do is literally cover my hands in antihydral (intense anti-sweat thing) two days before I do comps or want to perform, and that works great for me. Others have to moisturize instead :P I'd suggest being careful on boulders that shred more skin and focus on comp blocs that lets you control your grip more! Slabs, feet-intense coordination dynos etc. In comps when there are powerful compression-style blocs on glas fiber volumes I stay pretty strict to not giving it too many attempts, since that will ruin me for the rest of the climbs.
@TheValinov Жыл бұрын
realy? plastic bags??? how about socks? or if you hate them so much, maybe the fusion of both - nylon socks. you get them in most shoe stores for testing shoes, right?
@Snikwald Жыл бұрын
Wonderful tips, especially last one! I have a question for you - after bad twisted ankle (and few months off the wall) two years ago I have issues with committing to horizontal or downward dynos. Do you have any advice to combat this? Greetings from Poland and tack så mycket!
@zacharylaschober Жыл бұрын
Frequency is more important than volume, start small and make variations in the movement rather than bigger movements, recognize this is not a linear process, despite being low energy you adapt to coordination and mental efforts better when rested thus early in a session is great, and recognize progress even if it is one more attempt or an easier time making an attempt or steadier breath after or willingness to attempt with a crowd and such. Plus, be kind to yourself. Movement patterns with both technical and mental aspects take drastically different times for everyone.
@Snikwald Жыл бұрын
@@zacharylaschober thank you! Worth consideratuon for sure:) Mental state is surely underestimated aspect, myself being guilty of it aswell.

Question: I've been wanting to buy those madrock shoes, and my current Scarpa Dragos, i went down 2 sizes and it took a good while to walk them in. How are the madrock shoes you think in comparison? Do i still go 2 sizes down and hope they fit eventually?
@zacharylaschober Жыл бұрын
Drones won’t stretch as much as Dragos and the sizing is usually about a size and a half up from the Scarpa Performance line from what I last remember, however I do wear my Dragos 3.5 sizes small which is not a heavily compressed fit for an easier time volume smearing.
@SnikenCS Жыл бұрын
@@zacharylaschober so if my size is EU 42 for dragos, you'd go with 43,5 for drones? Street shoe size = 44
@zacharylaschober Жыл бұрын
@@SnikenCS yes in theory, in practice I would say you probably want a full US size down from your street shoe size. I think your Dragos are comparatively big so the math doesn’t work exactly.
