Absolutely not. Imagine a bunch of guys who're not into sports discussing their lifestyle and the routine they follow to stay fit. This is important because I wouldn't describe the two tarot/horoscope guys as atheists because being an atheist entails that we do not believe in unsubstantiated claims and the stuff those guys believe in not only lack any the evidence but also goes against the scientific methods. Some people really need to consider their positions before they start identifying as an atheist.

I disagree, if I was an agnostic, I would not have participated in the video, as I would have thought they were looking for atheists. Maybe it's different in America, but in Theology in the UK I was taught that there is theism, agnosticism, and atheism, with agnosticism being undecided/in the middle, I would not categorise them together, as I feel that is unfair on all three parties, it's almost like defining agnosticism as 'an atheist in the closet', which agnosticism is not. Side note, I thought it was Katie, but damn when I noticed Joey's cross earrings I thought I had him! Baffles me why he would wear them as an atheist, he must have got them as a present from his parents 😂

@@juliannaevierivera Yeah, that's where there is a differentiation with the definitions. I was taught agnosticism was someone who neither believed nor disbelieved in a god, whereas an atheist is someone who does not believe in a god. A perfect agnostic (as if there ever could be such a thing as perfect) in terms of the definition I learnt would be someone who was perfectly in the middle, and so it would not be fair on theists to put all the agnostics in the branch or 'camp' of atheism, as the perfect agnostic would be as close to theism as they were to atheism. It's all just language games, of course.

I'm tempted to just quote "This is the oppressors language, yet I need it to talk to you," but perhaps it would be more appropriate to paraphrase Northrop Frye and say instead 'we write from what we know'. People who grew up around religion often speak about Atheism using a similar vernacular to that of the believers of the religion they rejected; we even see a conscious effort NOT to do that in this very video as someone try's to backtrack from calling something 'enlightening'. Anyone who code switches on a daily basis can tell you slip ups like that will occur when trying to translate from the vernacular you heard 80% of your life and the one you have more recently adopted, and that slipping will be even more frequent when there is no one around reinforcing the idea 'we don't talk like that'.

When Katie said that an atheist shouldn’t go to religion when they have lost someone, I can’t really agree with her on that If it makes the person feel better, they should do whatever they want. Just because they’re an atheist doesn’t mean that they can’t try to see if religion makes them feel better. If they found out they’re religious that way, let them do it. If they see that religion really isn’t for them, great, they learned a thing about themselves. But as long as the person feels better, it doesn’t matter if they turned to religion or not. They can’t just “read some philosophy” like Katie said. You also comfort the person like a friend would do, not tell them to read philosophy.

I always thought agnostic is separate from atheism. Like as in as an atheist you don't believe in God and as an agnostic you still think that there is a possibility for God to exist but guess they're kinda part of the same spectrum? Personally if I was agnostic I wouldn't call myself an atheist.
@ajrose39913 жыл бұрын
@@TheNameIsLisi it’s because gnosticism and theism are different and have very different meanings, theism is about belief so an aTHEIST believes there is no god (because theism is about belief) an aGNOSTIC (gnostic means knowledge) is a person who does not claim to know there is or is not a god, so an agnostic atheist is just someone who doesn’t believe in a god personally but also doesn’t claim to know 100% there is no god, that’s why atheism and agnosticism are compatible and a very common form of atheism, hope that helped

@@reina2320 I don't think putting agnosticism on a spectrum between theism and atheism works, as knowledge and belief are two different subject. You can talk about belief being a subset of knowledge, and to an extent I'll probably agree, but the two are seperate none the less. So , like some folks in the video, I call myself an agnostic atheist. 'Agnostic' because I don't *know* if there is anything out there that could be defined as devine, and 'atheist' because I don't *believe* as such (note: non-belief in x ≠ *believing* x is *not* true). This system leaves everybody with four possible positions: -agnostic theist; doesn't know (a) god(s) exists, believes (a) god(s) exists -gnostic theist (not to be confused with gnosticism); knows (a) god(s) exists, believes (a) god(s) exists -agnostic atheist; doesn't know (a) god(s) exists, doesn't believe (a) god(s) exists -gnostic atheist; knows (a) god(s) does not exists, doesn't believe (a) god(s) exists
