I feel like so many of these questions are testing things parallel or tangential to Jewishness, but not of Jewishness itself. Calling your grandparents Safta is Israeli, not necessarily Jewish. If your family is from Europe, you'd use Yiddish not Hebrew, or even the language of the place your grandparents came from. My grandma was an assimilated German Jew from Berlin and my grandfather was a German-speaking Jew from Prague, and we called them Opa and Oma, not Safta or Bubbe or Zayde, because they spoke German, not Yiddish or Hebrew. Like when Adam began the Channukah prayer, it was immediately obvious to me his family is Yiddish-speaking Ashkenazis, but that one girl questioned his pronunciation because he spoke with a pretty typical American Ashkenazi accent, and not an Israeli Hebrew accent. The Jewish identity is so diverse and complex, and I think these people's perspective on things makes it so monolithic and simplistic with things like your relationship to Israel, your religiosity, having gone to day school or summer camp, or knowing a hand washing prayer. A Jew from Southern California with Israeli parents has a very different Jewish experience than a Jew from Boston with Russian parents, or a Jew from Montreal with Hungarian grandparents, or a Jew from Paris with German grandparents, etc. Assuming your Jewish experience is generalizable is so myopic.

I generally agree but with the Baruch Ata it he just didn't seem very confident in saying the words which is likely due to a discomfort with Hebrew but I can see why it would look like someone trying to say it quickly to not get called out on a pronunciation mistake. The real question would've been to break out the shema and see who got it right since that's a much stronger test (though not everyone would be able to answer but you'd know who's safe)

All of those things are part of the american jewish stereotype. Instead, i grew up listening to music in hebrew and arabic, eating iraqi/israeli dishes, and had parents speaking hebrew to each other on the daily. All of which are experiences no one in my college chabad shared. A jew is a jew is a jew. A ‘bad’ jew, is still part of the community. It would have been nice if they included a ‘bad’ jew.
