thank you guys for this instructional video. I have been longboarding for 25+ yrs but still have to dust the attic out each season by practicing the basics. At 51 , I have to go back thru all glovedowns & fundamentals to get back to the skill - mechanics level I had worked up to the previous Oct/Nov. In this vid you described + included key elements to puckslides which made that process quicker for me this year. 🛹🤙🏻😎

I appreciate all the work you guys put into these videos. I have no one around me that freerides so learning is challenging but thanks to you guys I've been banging out decent heelside stand up slides. And just earlier did my first toeside standup. I'm stoked. Much love to yall. Now I just need some gloves so I can learn hands down. Any suggestions?

how much weight should I be putting on my glove down hand for the coleman? should it just be hovering to help keep balance or do I want lots on there?
@LoadedBoards5 жыл бұрын
You would want about a 70/30 split weight distribution. 70% of your weight should be shared between your front foot and your hand, while 30% is still on your back foot.

Thanks, I was thinking about just practicing these slides near the bottom of the hill. I don't think the parking garage gives me enough speed to Coleman. But a toeside 180 is no problem. My technique might be off

I started sliding with my longboard few months ago and I really catched on it. I started learning fast but... I sprained my shoulder while doing a fast toeside slide. Now I'm quite afraid of toeside slides and my shoulder isn't fully recovered even though I can use it normally. What can I do to slide as confident and good as I used to?

@koda_pig5 жыл бұрын
You can slide with any wheels but softer wheels - like your road grippers - are more grippy and less slidey.

is sliding with longer or shorter wheelbase easier??? i've got the Loaded Overland and currently the longer wheelbase and Abec 11 Freerides 84a as wheels...this setup should work, right?....still cant manage to slide...maybe im too slow...lul....me so scared
@LoadedBoards7 жыл бұрын
Either wheelbase will work, but a shorter wheelbase can be easier for some people to learn on. The Loaded Overland has an in-between wheelbase of what is considered short and long. Since the Overland is a Topmount board, you can place your feet directly on top of the trucks to making sliding easier for you. At first it will feel like you are simply doing a pivot maneuver, but the sensation of swinging your body and board around will get you comfortable with the motion, which you can then try on longer and faster slides. A key component of sliding is having enough speed to the point where the board and your momentum do most of the work and it doesn't require too much physical effort on your part.

If you're worried wear a lid, good slide gloves, pads on elbows & knees, roller-derby pants and put on thick clothes. Even wear an overall so you don't worry about your shirt being pulled up if you're on your back. Maybe even borrow some MTB body armour. Then get out and try stuff, fall over, cock it up and you'll realise it's not as scary. Try to learn to slide on gloves, knee-pads & shoes when it goes wrong. Keep practicing & peeling the layers, you learn to both slide & deal with falls. Your confidence will come if you push yourself and invest time trying. The falling will drop off and the magic of board control will kick in. Just don't be tempted to go without your helmet, knee pads or gloves - there lies a route to pain & regret. Best of luck.

so when you do a Coleman you just let the board slide bu itself and not push out with your back foot like on toesides?
@LoadedBoards6 жыл бұрын
You CAN let your momentum carry the slide for you, but as you get more experienced and used to the sensation of sliding, you will be able to do micro-adjustments by kicking your back leg out to slide more and control your speed and direction better!

So how do you guys not flat spot the hell out of your wheels? I’m a street skater just trying to learn sweet power slides from long boarders.
@LoadedBoards6 жыл бұрын
Longboards tend to need more speed to do proper slides, meaning that there is a lot more momentum to carry you forward and draw out your slides. This, coupled with the longer wheelbases, makes for near constant rotation of the wheels during a slide. A flatspot occurs when you slide at a perfect 90° angle, causing the wheel to stop spinning and just sit there while being ground down into the ground. Since skateboards have shorter wheelbases, drawing out long slides without holding the board at 90° is trickier since the board reacts quicker to little movements. The longer wheelbases of longboards forces the rider to shift their weight slower, allowing for a more gradual curve in the slide, which in turn keeps the wheels spinning for longer. If you can keep your board and wheels from hitting that 90° angle, then you can avoid flatspots. Try pushing out your slides to about 45° since this is the optimal angle for sliding and keeping the wheels rotating at the same time. Hope this helps!

The Fat Free. Orange has the smoothest initiation into a slide, but slows you down quickly. Yellow has a bit more abrupt initiation into a slide, but slides much further. Purple is right in the middle. Most of our riders seem to enjoy using Orange Fat Frees the most since they roll smooth and flow in and out of slides so easily!

I also think this vid is just trying to help with free riding just on a straight road not around corners and stuff but idk man. Lol they title these things beginner/basic slides when 360 is something that takes a lot of practice, kind of triggered
