Skills With Phil thanks man because of your videos I am seriously interested in your evil bike so that is what I'm going to demo. I race enduro and do you think with the geometry of that bike will work in my favor rather then a ridiculous amount of travel. Because I don't like the feel of that much travel.

56yo " beginner " here..haven't been on bike in over 20 years, acquired a Trek 820 for service award, using it for fitness, weight loss and fun...large guy loving the exercise...1st ride frightened me like a 5yr old learning..lol..2nd ride still haven't come up off the seat for anything..3rd, 4th..improvements daily...up off seat for rough areas, moving weight opposite turns, beginning to transfer weight..still haven't mastered pedaling while standing..(bike jerks, not smooth)..after 2 weeks haven't had it on trail yet..anyhoo..my point is, this video is more simple to understand than any of the others I have watched thus far. Awesome uploads on YT on MTB skills from many riders..however, you seem to put the info out that makes me anxious to get out and practice..thanks..new sub..

You like me grew up riding WITHOUT a helmet. Just a reminder in case you jumped into the sport without a helmet; it is a REALLY good idea (essential) that you get one. (Not trying to be condescending here. Just a friendly reminder from another old guy who starts things when he gets excited about them too.)

Matt Snyder I’m 59, and a few years ago I started biking again. I’ve had a few unplanned crashes - two on asphalt going about 15-20 mph, and the other about that same speed descending on a dirt trail. One crash was only a few blocks away from the house. I’m here to write this because my helmets have saved my life. Wear a helmet, no matter how short the ride...it could save your life. Really.
@Ahayeahishere
@Ahayeahishere 3 жыл бұрын
@@richarde1355 thank you man, yes its really wise and nessesary to invest in a helmet.. Even when you think your just going to be back in an hour, its just a short and safe ride.. Better take that helmet with you and put it on.. Yesterday i was biking i had my helmet on, but at one point after a short break i forgot to click the straps in again haha.. And it was kinda dangerous as it was downhill with a lot of high roots and fast, narrow way with trees in the middle so i was glad that i didnt fall or else it would be pretty bad when the helmet couldnt protect me as it wasnt strapped in.. Anyway, i kinda feel unsafe on my bike still, i hope it comes with time as it was my second ride yesterday and i dont feel like im in full control of my bike and my body.. Thats why i searched for this video and i think it would be wise to train this skills and get a better feel for the bike, before trying harder trails.

Great Vid, used to be very agile on my BMX in my youth, but now i'm an oldie and I'm now getting into MB. You vid made me realise I have only been focused on tools and bike spec, I forgot I also need to re-learn this type of control to save on bruises and blushes! Thanks, you've gained a well deserved sub.

Fantastic video, thank you Phil! I started riding mountain bikes coming from a BMX background around 1998 and wish this video was available back then. Awesome sauce!! That was so useful!! I've been MTB riding for a couple of years now and I always get stuck at the same technical spot every time, at every trail. I always work strength and endurance, but never technique. All of the technique videos I've watched were way too technical so I never bothered. But this video really kept the skills attainable!! Thanks!!

Phil! I love these videos. I have been studying them for awhile. I bought a 90s rigid MTB last year to hold myself over while I saved up for a Roscoe 7, which I just bought. The Roscoe (or probably most updated bikes, ha) feels AWESOME!!! I can apply these skills much better. It is very easy to get behind the seat even all the way up, and on my old bike the reach was so long, it was too hard. Easy to get loose on like in this video as well. Thanks for all of your help. I want to go rent and get a lesson at Highland sometime! Don't live too, too far away.

Great video! I'm just seeing this now for the first time, but some of these I had tried teaching a friend on her first time on a mountainbike. I find the track stand indispensable, I use it on a pretty regular basis. I ride clipped in on pretty technical terrain, and if I stall or need to pause for a moment to pick a line, it's nice to be able to do that and remain on the bike. Also, the pedal ratchet helps a lot, I like it on technical climbs where a pedal strike is likely, and also when going through deep water. Keep up the great work!
