I think I learned something wrong 4 years ago when I picked up the saxophone. I got used to playing the palm keys without the octave key to reach the 2nd octave of the sax and play D Eb and E, and they sound good to me , nothing is too sharp or too flat, then on the 3rd octave I use the palm key. I did that because I did hear or read anyone saying you can't do that or not allowed. I found out it sounded right so I started using them that way too. I am realizing now that actually you are playing the traditional way, and perhaps according to all the saxophone players I am doing it wrong? If so does that I have to forget that habit completely and start going directly to the lower keys with the palm key each time I would want to play D, Eb and E in the 2nd octave, even though I get the same result with the higher keys without the palm key, and actually I even found them sounding clearer? and why did you say they wont work unless you press the octave key ? not true , they work.

Hey Red, yes sometimes I use the palm key D without the octave key to play the D in the second octave (normally D fingering with octave key). However, I use this very rarely for when I am transitioning fast between C# and D. I would suggest mostly using D with octave key for 2nd octave D Continue to practice it this way to get used to it and refrain from using the palm key D for 2nd octave D. Same goes for Eb and E. When I said they don't work, I meant you won't make the palm keys sound higher (3rd octave) unless you press the octave key. Of course, some players can make the sax sound higher without the octave key as well but most beginner or intermediate players would not be able to do this. Hope that helps! Let me know if you have any other questions! Alexander

You're welcome Eugenia! some of these keys are hard to play especially the palm keys, so don't rush into it! If you can get the Side C, Side Bb and D palm key, that's a good place to start. A

@@SaxophoneMasterclass This video is just in time ! I play Adagio by Albioni, not complecated, just for my level. There are only few side plam keys in score. i thought I will steady and surely trying every day and I mastered the sound that coming very nice high pitch. D key used to be on the way of my playing and I struggled as it was touched accidently but now my hand has kind of developed the shape thay is suitable for D key manoeuvre and the same time less accidental touch occuring. However, where R hand side key involved for high F, this is the one awkward. Any advice how to use it better way than flex a wrist a lot. It would be different with a bigger hand of course, that is not a my case. Thank you :)
