Great job! I had no idea you could start so small! Very cool. I'm in AZ and have had great and horrible lawns. If you foot aerate and rake in a top layer of mortar sand, it will really come alive. The sand will also help level the low spots and will allow for better water permeation (less watering). Aerating in the thin and weed infested areas will also help the bermuda beat the weeds naturally, so you don't need to spend money on weed and feed. Keep posting!

I'll have to try those tips out, I'm planning on transitioning back to the bermuda in 2 or 3 weeks... apparently when the overnight lows are 65+ consistently that's when it's time to transition.

You don't have to overseed during the winter unless you want a green lawn.

How long did it take for the sod squares to completely fill?
@DIYAroundTheHome3 жыл бұрын
Probably 4 months, you could always add more per sq ft than we did though and cut down that time.

Interesting stuff. Bermuda runners look just like crabgrass runners - both are considered weeds in my area and I've spent way too much time pulling them out this year. Also have some lovely stuff called goosegrass. Lawns are a never ending fight!

Hey, hey, that is just amazing!! Great job on the Reno. Lee your good and bad observations on your self. Yes I would agree over watering is one issue that I saw in the video. But you learn and thus grass still grows. Abdullah gray job and I know the lawn will look better next spring summer time.

Thanks George. By the way I think I found out the reason for killing the lawn in the first place. The end of the previous summer I put some weed and feed fertilizer down but didn't see the warning to not apply in 90°f+ temps or it can burn the lawn. Well in AZ many summer overnight lows are around 90 (let alone highs into the 110s)... so I probably burned it to death. Won't be making that mistake again. Next spring I'll make sure to use a pre-emergent then when the day time highs are getting into the upper 80s I'll do one last weed and feed them hold off on those types of products until the Fall.

@@DIYAroundTheHome that sure makes sense about the weed and feed. i love lawn care and understand about the labels. you say you have watched a few videos well i hope you have looked into the LCN and Conner Ward, and Ryan Knorr, and Pete from GCI Turf. Cant forget the Godfather of them all John Perry of Green County Fertilizer or the N-EXT products. if you have not seen them or heard of them please stop by and watch their vids. The LCN and Pete are the ones that i get a kick out of. there are others out there That i watch and practice what they teach. So far my Bermuda is the best on the Block and maybe in the town. anyway, back to you. i am just glad to see someone out there in that area where the heat and sun beat down and you have just turned that yard around. you have just done a great job. keep up the great work and keep me and the rest of the community posted on your progress for the rest of this season and the following season.

I've seen some of these guys' videos but a lot of it is for Kentucky Bluegrass or climates unlike mine. So far from the videos I've seen it seems like the way AZ lawns are taken care of are even different than FL Bermuda lawns but maybe I've just not watched enough on the topic. By the way I'll soon make a video showing the winter transition to rye as that is coming up quick in these parts.

How much are you watering? And when?
@DIYAroundTheHome3 жыл бұрын
Right now I'm watering 25 minutes twice a day, three times a week. While that sounds like a lot, my sprinkler heads are the Hunter MP Rotator, which are a low flow, designed to conserve water by going out in streams instead of a mist that can get blown off by the wind.

Got it thanks for the information! First year with the AZ lawn and damn ... not easy 😆

Completely agree, not ready at all. I'm determined though! (Glutton for punishment)

I think you bought two pieces of sod at $6? and other products so a little more than $6 reno but looks good!
@DIYAroundTheHome5 жыл бұрын
Yeah you makes a good point, I realized that it should have been $12 after the video was uploaded. For me I don't consider the other costs like fertilizer into this equation cause if I had purchased a pallet of sod instead of two pieces, I would have still used fertilizer. The main point of the video is that you don't have to dig up your dead Bermuda lawn and re-sod the whole thing and spend a lot of money, you can instead plant plugs, be patient and save a lot of money. By the way I'll have my winter overseeding with ryegrass video up soon.
