Rocks, pebbles, and other hard things won't make it easy if they're mixed among the dirt. I'd wet the area and break it up and remove the rocks so it's just dirt. More work now but easier down the line.

Nicely done! Understandable and, informative! Quick question: In other videos the cold water supply was kept on, explaining this provides more pressure to flush the tank. In your video (and mentioned on the tank) you turned the water supply off. Does turning the water supply off still provide enough pressure to flush the tank? Thanks!

If you need a rachet for the plastic cover a 10mm socket is needed. I have 5 oil filter tools and none would work. So I was mad and just went to the dealer and bought the right one that would remove the filter since I plan on keeping this car for 150k miles. lol

Spent today digging out a box installed exactly this way probably ten years ago. The digging was VERY tough because of the pebbles that had migrated throughout the entire lawn area, doing everything except their intended purpose of keeping the box clean and neat. The latter was so full of hard-caked dirt the valves were completely buried and not even visible when the lid was initially opened. My impression is this method is a short-term solution that looks great the day it is installed, but doesn’t hold up over time, and will not leave you with visible and practical access to the valves when maintenance becomes necessary.
@DIYAroundTheHome

Wonder if the soil type or pebble size played a role in the problem. I've installed several valve boxes this way in the last 16 years (in Utah and Arizona) and haven't had any issues getting to the valves for servicing.

@@DIYAroundTheHome Thanks for the reply. This was Central Florida, so not a location I had expected to be very dynamic in terms of soil shift. My original intention was to reposition and reinstall the box exactly as you describe (which looks great by the way) but now I'm having second thoughts...

The easiest way I've found to paint wheels .Is get a 5 gal. bucket and lay the wheel onto it . That way it will help cut down on the chance of a run happening .It also makes it easy to see where you might have missed without having to rotate the wheel.

If the car is brand new, you should brake it in and change the oil after around 1k miles. Then every 7k miles with good long life oil (brand does not matter as long as it has the Toyota specification). I also think this engine calls for 0W-8 oil, but I am not sure, just make sure you use the right one specified for the vehicle. Oh and a crush washer is a must have not nice to have, believe me and dont ask how I know...

Aside from tracking oil consumption, I also record the service/repairs done with the date and mileage at the time of each. This helps me keep track of what maintenance I need to do and serves as a great seeking point when I sell the car. I personally would much rather buy a car with service records than not.

After watching the video, I believe I overtightened my filter. I remember going hand tight plus a couple of turns with a wrench. There was still a drop of oil on the lower part of the filter today. I loosened it and retightened. It seems like I tightened it by hand until it tightened a bit, and then hit a wall. It wouldn't go anymore and I didn't want to use a wrench. After starting the car to check for leaks, there was already a drop under the filter. The plastic cover is and was dry. How tough is it to strip a filter? Are they that fragile? Also, in the meantime I was pushing the gas until the gas engine came on on two separate occasions and realized my parking brake was engaged for some reason. I was so flustered that i put it in reverse while focusing on the brake and cracked my chock behind the wheel. Why wouldn't the brake have disengaged? How bad was that for the CVT? That was a bad day. Thanks for reading

If you keep having alternators go bad, there's a decent chance. The front valve cover gasket is leaking or your spool valve is leaking. Check those out as they might save you down the line from having to replace it a third time😅

How will you pull the stacked washer and dryer forward if you wish to clean the vent behind the dryer since you have the cabinet to the left of the stacked washer and dryer? I have this issue with washer/dryer in the closet with no room to get behind it and believe I will pull the dryer duct out and damage it by pulling the unit forward. Possibly a flexible slinky like dryer duct hose would work so we can pull the unit forward and push it back? Seems you installed this prior to putting in your cabinet to the left. Thank you for any advice
@DIYAroundTheHome
@DIYAroundTheHome 4 ай бұрын
Planning for servicing is definitely smart. In my case my plan is to always allow access from the side of the unit. I personally didn't want to deal with the flexible ductwork and I had such tight tolerances doing it with rigid material that it worked great. It is a little annoying to have to pull things out to then have to cut the metalized tape and then pull the machines forward but the tile seems to handle moving things around well and I'm down to only needing to do it once a year so it isn't too bad.

Looks like there are no easily-accessible water cutoff valves -- always an issue with stackables, especially if you want to hide the water connections and drain hose. What do you do about emergency water cut-off? We're considering converting side-by-side to stack and are concerned about this issue.
@DIYAroundTheHome
@DIYAroundTheHome 4 ай бұрын
Our shut off valves are to the left of the stack so they're reachable but when I put a full size freezer in that space (instead of a chest freezer) those will be hard to reach. Of course the house shut off valves outside is still easy to get to so we have a backup
