Great advice Richard...I have enough room on my property to do motorhomes and custom buses, which is a great income stream. We have a small airport close by, but that community has been locked up for 40 years by the same guy who has a shop at the airport and it is tough to get the community to switch to a new shop. Looks like you are getting close to the move. Sure hope you keep doing videos. I like all of the advice you give and I have no doubt the younger folks will listen to you!

@@oldschoolautoupholstery No mistake Richard, you always give great advice! It takes a lot of room to do larger RV's. Carpet installation, drapes and most RV folks do not want to do hands on work which is usually part of the deal and it takes having the coach and most want changes to the actual design of the interior. It is a lot of work though.

Any chance you can do a video on estimating the amount of material needed to do different types of seat projects? Maybe from each of the categories you outlined in the video it would be a great help for people just getting starting out.
@oldschoolautoupholstery7 күн бұрын
Hello Trucker, Oh, that would be a short video. Basically, most materials come 54 inches wide in the roll. Just lay out your items on the floor that needs to be measured. Pull out your tape measure and measure how many feet you need. I order by the yard so calculate three feet to each yard and you will know how much you need. Please keep liking and watching!

Year and a half into upholstery. Started learning and an auto/marine shop. After my first 8 months i moved on and got hired at a major local office furniture company as their sole upholsterer. I plan on starting my own business once i get a better living situation and my own equipment. But its intimidating. It was a leap getting hired at the furniture company. I had nobody else to learn from or turn to. Almost been there for a year and ive still learned a lot by myself. I plan on stepping into my own business when i outgrow this job.

Where would you rate household upholstery such as making your own chairs or 3 seater settees, corner groups etc? Also what about recovering household such as older furniture/antiques or businesses such as pubs restaurants chairs/couches?

Hello Big, Well, I do dining chairs and other cushions. Where you make the money if if you charge a lot for each piece and there are several pieces to do. Hello Richard, good advice! I have another question. It is my understanding that the OBS Chevy trucks 1988-99 have the glued on to the main foam seat covers. Do you have a video on this type seat? I am wondering how to get it off without damaging the foam and then how to reattach the new cover properly. PS might be an idea for a video (if you don’t already have one on this series of seats? Thanks, Phillip Hall
@oldschoolautoupholsteryКүн бұрын

@oldschoolautoupholstery I contacted a machine seller about purchasing a Juki LU2810. Told me they have very limited foot? selection. Have you seen this to be the case as least as far as being relevant to upholstery work. They're wanting to sell me on the Consew 2206RB-14-DD which has alot of accessories available, auto thread cutter, auto backstitch? and a lot of electronic settings with a push of a button. I'm more old school as to mechanical settings and not really into the electrical gizmo factor to have to learn and the possibility of circuit board issues down the road. I would appreciate and respect your opinion.
