A realistic possibility for the expo center is that after the war, due to money being allocated elsewhere, it fell in to disrepair which could have lead to the mentioned fire or it being intentionally destroyed - maybe being cheaper / more pollitically appealing to level and build new structures

I live something like 100-150m from Russian embassy in Warsaw and I love the vibe of the Soviet one in Altengrad, there's a lot of similar embassies in Warsaw - old, pre-WW2 mansions, accomodated for diplomatic missions
@_kiewicz6340 Жыл бұрын
Yeah, I live in similar location (further from the Russian Embassy, but still lot of embassies and government buildings are next to me) and I can say it too. Older mansions or palaces changed their function over time.

I like this format of episode. Revisiting a lot of little old places of the city is kind of refreshing, as at this point there's a lot of things I've forgotten. Gets the picture of what the city used to be and is changing a lot better in my head

I had the same problem with ‘stuck’ cims, often on paths where I had used node controller to sharpen corners. If you install the ‘broken node detector’ mod it has a function to find stuck cims and you can fix the pathing for each. If you leave the cims stuck then over a very short period of time it will break the game simulation meaning it will not run any faster than ‘normal’ speed. So, worth spending the time freeing those cims! :)

Perfect video, as always. At 18:29: You are right, this building realy looks like the publishing house of the newspaper "Neues Deutschland", the official newspaper of the SED. It was errected from 1969-1974 at the Franz-Mehring-Platz in East Berlin. At this time it had one of the most advanced printing houses in Europa directly attached to it.

You and the czech architect Adam Gebrian, that talks about different interesting buildings in his videos, made me really appriciate the buildings from the last century. Thank you. Many people collectively hate on buildings from the socialism era but there are so many beautiful gem of a buildings that were built during that era. I hope that you plan on building some other specific buildings in this era. I love the ÚTB building in Prague that is sadly being demolished right now. The Ústřední telekomunikační budova or Central telecommunication building was built in the 1970s and during it's time it was the biggest office building in the Czechoslovakia and it was also the biggest telecommunication building in Europe. It's one of my most favourite brutalist buildings. It's shame that such beautiful and very specific odd building is being demoloshed just for some apartments.
@serebii666Ай бұрын
" was the biggest office building in the Czechoslovakia and it was also the biggest telecommunication building in Europe" Well that was also it's downfall. The building was simply too big to reasonably adapt, had no natural light or ventilation for modern requirements and already was heavily compromised (both with all the Asbestos, but also by the fact that it went through a large renovation, including the facade in the 1990s, which means that there was little of the original worthy of preserving). But to be fair monument preservation is itself quite political and therefore ultimately popular. Many buildings from the early 1920s, in Czechia's then Art Deco style (Národní dekorativismus, erroneously sometimes called Rondokubismus - it has nothing in common with Cubism in arch. theory) have no protection whatsoever and a lot have already been heavily compromised by facadism. And that is largely because compared to Cubism or Functionalism that replaced it, it's not popular or well studied, so it misses out on preservation too.

It's pretty interesting when you know the major inspiration sources for these projects (and many previous ones): - Hospital - The University Hospital Prague - Motol and Homolka hospital (built gradually since the late 1930s) - Secret Police Headquarter - Regional Headquarter of Police in Prague - Pankrác - The original Exhibition center was heavily inspired by the old Exhibition Center in Prague - Holešovice, and It was rebuild and extended gradually in the 1950s-1960s. But the major extension was in the early 1990s in fact. The historical (pre-war) exhibition hall partly burned about 15 years ago and It's under extensive reconstruction and replica construction of the destroyed wing now. Pretty cool 😊

Another awesome episode. I love this series, and I'm super hyped to see what you get up to in the 70s. I've got an idea as to how you could make some of those rare cars like the Soviet limo drive around without being too common. Not sure if you'd want to spend time on it or not. You could dump and import them as taxis, place a small hidden taxi depot and use the vehicle selector mod to make it spawn rare/vintage/sports/super cars. Though they would behave as taxis, I don't imagine it would be too noticeable. Maybe you could even make them work as some other form of service that you could restrict, like garbage collection (lol).

Hey Akruas, can't wait to see the new decade. You really are the master of building, my city has quite a few builds inspired by you. I have a question. Since the latest update, I can't seem to be able to make my decals bigger or smaller. The surfaces and props I can but the decals are staying the same size while the indicator is getting larger itself. Do you maybe have a tip or a clue?
I know it's off by around 20 years, but this hospital reminds me of Szpital Św. Łukasza (Hospital of Saint Luke) in my city - Tarnów :D I lowkey also hoped we'd see some chapel there, but then I remembered - no religion in communism. Also, what about getting some foreign/non-soviet vehicles to be placed in some specific places in 70s, like the racetrack, another exhibition or some really rich areas? I think in Polish perspective, where in 1970s and 80s you had quite a few foreign cars imported for various reasons, the ones that come to my mind instantly are some Beetles, Citroens, italian Fiats but also very rarely stuff like Porsche 911s or Mercedes-Benzes.
