I was the engineer who designed and built the station announcement system in around 1994. At the same time a technician got his mate at sonshine fm to record the train announcements with a male voice. Over time my female voice model (Hi Cindy!) became prevalent. The latest train male voice is completely new and likely an AI voice.
@TransportofPerth5 ай бұрын
Is that female voice you talk about the old one heard in this video (kzbin.info/www/bejne/mHqkqJiZgpVrosU)? I know the name of the modern announcer is Miranda Miller. Yeah it's cool the new male announcements too and really good if it is really AI.
@CJTheAllrounder5 ай бұрын
It had to have been AI
@minxythemerciless5 ай бұрын
@@TransportofPerth The train voice sounds a bit more Australian than Cindy. The current female station voice is closer to the original with a slight hint of an English background. I heard somewhere that the current station voice is also AI but I can't pick it. What I am happy about is my script and announcement timings and script variations are still being used with minor alterations some 30 years later.

I had heard from my mates at Transperth (a long time ago) that you couldn't couple more than two trains sets together for safety reasons. Yet I've seen more two sets coupled together in other countries, and now I know it's possible to do it with the A-sets. Great catch.

There's a good chance the original male announcer (with some age since) was recalled to re-record the lines. Both announcers were paid per project rather than by royalties, so that means Transperth could keep them for as long as they liked. The story went that Yanchep was actually predictable and possible with the original old male announcer because the announcers were asked to read out all the possible suburb names and whatever on the map that may be on a future extension. The difficult one was actually "Elizabeth Quay" because that name change really more or less came out of nowhere, but was still possible if this was recorded after 2012! Maybe someone could write to Transperth and ask them to put male voices on B-Series and C-Series trains as well so that we have some diversity on the network.
@CJTheAllrounder2 ай бұрын
There’s a lot of theories with the announcement systems, however I feel it’s AI for some of it such as the Bayswater announcement for the male voice. That announcement sounds so computerised. It’ll be interesting to see what will happen for the Thornlie Cockburn Link and even Ellenbrook Line as it is definitely possible they may run A series on it
