I'm 76 years old. Been involved with firearms since I was 14. I've owned over 40 pistols, been an instructor for 50 years. After years of research I choose the Sig P365XL as my daily carry weapon. I qualify under H.R.218 annually with my S&W 9c and use 17 round magazines. All my children have the S&W Shield 380 EZ.

Great clear and concise tips in this video! When I first started to carry, I tried to take all of these things into consideration but I was uninformed and inexperienced. I combed the internet endlessly looking for information about what made concealed carry good and safe. I also talked with my teachers and other experienced gun carriers openly about what worked and what my thoughts were. Even though it was an exhausting experience, it was worth the work. I still made carry decisions then that I have since made differently. I’m ok with that because I gave myself a good, safe and effective start and then improved on it. I have been carrying for years now and learned relatively quickly what works for me because I practiced EVERYTHING about CCW. For example, I practiced how to handle my carry gun when getting in and out of the shower or changing clothes and disarming for legal purposes. I also practiced drawing from concealment and shooting accurately. Now if I get to shop for another CCW pistol, I already know that I want it to draw smoothly and have a good grip which doesn’t rub my skin raw. These subtitles are several steps down the line from how the firearm feels in my hand but they are also kind of everything.

5:08 this happened to me with my CZ pcr love the pistol but it’s hard to find any appendix holsters for it. Your stuck with what you can get and the ones that are available aren’t great. Alien gears holsters are great but they don’t have an appendix holster, I can get all other configs from them but appendix.

Very informative video for people who want to conceal carry! A few other things to consider as well - as far as holster options go, a lot of people don't take into consideration their body types for certain carry positions. For instance, an appendix carry rig may not work out for someone who's packing more pounds in the midsection and may be better suited for a 3 or 4 oclock carry position instead. I agree with your point in regards to the budget and possibly waiting a tad bit longer to upgrade to something better/more reliable. When I was a noob in the gun world, I overheard a customer asking for the cheapest concealed carry gun and was inquiring about the Hi point and Taurus handguns. The sales guy behind the counter asked the customer point blank "How much is your life worth to you? Only $200?" I distinctly remember the customer's brain almost exploding and trying to comprehend the gravity of the decision he was about to make. Long story short - the customer ended up "splurging" for a Glock 26 because of its reliability and plentiful aftermarket support. Remember - friends don't let friends buy Hi-Points!

I’d also suggest that after settling on a gun based on research, to shoot it first. Most ranges near me have rentals. Especially stores that have ranges. They generally have a wide selection of rentals. “Try before you buy”

I think going to the gunstore and browsing is also a good form of early research. Even if you have no plan. Just make sure you promise yourself to buy nothing this visit. Because especially for a novice, who doesn’t even know what to look for yet, going in with someone more experienced and just look at and feel EVERYTHING is a good way to see what’s out there, what ways guns differ from each other, what aspects to pay attention to, etc. Then it can speed up research once they get home.

The quality holster point is one aspect I didn't think of. I spent many hours researching guns. Some sole searching for the platform best for me. Multiple visits to gun stores to narrow down the choices. Sadly, it took a full year to find a quality holster made specifically for my weapon.

My wife and I have been married for what will be 32 years in 2022. When we decided to start shooting and self protecting. She wanted me to help her get her 1st gun, because well, 32 years…🙂 I know her completely 😜 Being a Sig guy, I picked out the Sig Sauer P365 for her. Based on what I knew would be the 3 things she liked. Feel, Sights and Carry. She loved the gun! So after that she has had me pick out every gun for her and she has said I have hit it out of the park on each one. i’m late to this video, but have a few thoughts… #1 buyers also need to consider their use-case, whether they will carry on body or off, what they wear, if they stand, walk, or drive, etc #2 buyers are not purchasing slippers, so they need to consider how they access and manipulate the controls last thing i would add is that buyers need to determine where they land on the spectrum between convenience and capability all in, this is another great video on an important topic with solid information; well done young lady

I think lack of holster support is probably the number one thing that new gun owners never think about when they get a new gun. There are plenty of otherwise great guns out there that don't have great holster support because they're uncommon. It's something that no one thinks about when they're new to guns.

Great video. One other thing people need to think about is what law insurance you what to take on. I'm not pushing one over the other they're are many good ones, but you need to be covered if you own a gun which comes as a cost also. I'm just a regular person not push anything, but I know I can't afford to pay a lawyer for a long Court trial. Just something to think about.

The holster one got me. I bought a Remington 380. Yes, Remington makes a fantastic postol, but no one knows this so holsters are nonexistent. I got a pretty good custom holster, but that was pure luck and a bit of a task to find. Oh, and then I got the enigma and my custom holster is not compatible. So, what a great reason to buy another gun, right ;)

Taking a class for first time buyers prevents poor purchase decisions. Even experienced shooters who may own firearms already can benefit from a course for numerous reasons but also trying out new platforms and talking to other owners prior to purchase and without relying on specs or a short term review posted online.

I absolutely agree, I always research for probably months ahead of time before I’m gonna buy a new gun watch hundred reviews, and I would probably say 95% of the time I’m gonna try and shoot the gun from a friend or rent it from a gun store/range, I’m always gonna know what it costs. If they don’t have it in stock I’ll wait if I don’t like the way it feels when I shoot it or I’m not accurate with it I won’t buy it if I can’t conceal it I won’t buy it, I can comfortably conceal a Glock 19 with an optic and a Stream light TLR HD. And I wear that and conceal it for about 16 hours a day every day. Anybody buying a firearm I would highly recommend shooting it before hand and doing your research, guns are not cheap the average gun is $500- 700. And I you have a whole show on top of that maybe another hundred dollars, that’s just my two cents worth in my humble opinion. Love the channel keep the videos coming

I know this a slightly old video but I bought my first carry gun and I got a taurus g3c, now with that being said I went into the purchase wanting that and several things done to it but what I really wanted was the rti hanger system on my holster and found out only custom holster makers make holsters for the g3 series on the rti hanger qd system. So now it's a 100 dollar purchase and a wait for a custom holster for a gun and light combo that I want but it's something I should of looked into before I went into it and just thought I'd be fine after cause now I need more ammo cause I'm taking a class, more range time after the class, I need more mags, and I need ammo which is expensive asf if you can't find the right place that's sells ammo.

I bought a XDS once. It was comfortable to carry, comfortable in the hand, attractive, etc. But then when I try to practice with it, I realize the trigger is so heavy and bad that 1. I can’t shoot accurately with it, and 2. My finger gets tired real quick and I struggle to pull the trigger after just a few shots. Thought, “why carry something I can’t shoot?” Sold it and went back to the XDM/XDMEc

For me i need to fill specific categories for firearms a due it all pistol .22 pistol .22 rifle .223/5.56 rifle (challenge cause MA) And a 12 GA. Shotgun. I take time to do research on all and if I have a friend who has a firearm I am thinking of buying I see if I can go shooting with them. So far I have narrowed it down to a Smith and Wesson Compact 9mm, a Smith and Wesson .22 compact and a Mossberg Maverick with the field and security barrels. I needed fair budget but reliable and felt good shooting. So far i like what i have but I have also done hours upon hours of research thanks to your channel and many other channels like it. So for that. Thank you.

Speaking of budgeting for aftermarket purchases, buy a gun safe ASAP. If you don't have one, ask to store it at a friend or family member's place. Weapon storage cannot be taken lightly. It doesn't matter who gets ahold of your gun or ammo; you're responsible for every bullet that comes from the gun.

would save so much trouble if you could rent a handgun at the range to see what works for you but this is not available in NY state, plus if you do buy you have to register it so if say after a few days you do not like the gun and you can still return it you have to take it off your license and then put the new one on it just a lot of back and forth stuff

You need to go to a range and rent some guns and try them out. You need to be able to operate it comfortably and without issues. You need to be able to go beyond the oh it fits good in my hand mindset. Can you rack the slide Can you push the magazine release Can you lock the slide back? How is the trigger? Are you able to operate it? Some things may be tough because things are stiff. And need break in. However you should be able to reasonably operate the firearm safely and confident. You have to be comfortable and confident with your firearm or you will not be safe or comfortable carrying it either.

I know I’m a little late to the party on this one, I just found your channel. Good content, I do think getting something that feels good in the hands is important. Not necessarily the most important. But important nonetheless. For example, I know Glock makes good guns, I can’t shoot them to save my life because the blockiness doesn’t feel good in the hands, plus the grip angle isn’t for me vs M&P, 1911/2011’s, really most other guns, I can shoot pretty well because the gun just points better in my hands. Just food for thought

Point 1: I always know exactly what I want, be it guns, technology, cars, etc. I'll spend weeks researching any purchase over $30. "I know more than you." -Ron Swanson Point 5: My first carry gun was a Ruger SR9c. Fantastic gun, but all holsters are first made for Glocks, then Sigs and Smith & Wessons. That's one reason both of my main carry guns now are S&Ws. Much better holster selection and accessory support.

Rangemaster Tactical Conference (Tac-Con) is scheduled for late March in Carrollton (it's sold out but might be worth getting on the wait list - or plan on signing up for next year). Hardwired Tactical Shooting (Darryl Bolke and Wayne Dobbs) in Dallas. Their website lists no classes, probably best to contact them on their Facebook page. Lone Star Medics in Dallas for your medical training. About a three hour drive but KR Training offers a full schedule of firearms courses. Firearms Training Hub is a good source for multiple instructors. The Complete Combatant (Brian Hill) is teaching a couple of courses over a weekend in early March at Bandera (I know - long drive and overnight stay, but sometimes you need to travel to get good training).

If you wear *skinny jeans, tight outfits* (typical women's ware) - pocket carry might be the best. It prints like a phone/wallet so it's the MOST CONCEALABLE :) useful if you're a teacher, nurse (schools, hospitals can ALWAYS use another gunowner to protect the innocent) *If pocket-carry is what you're considering:* An interesting thought is to compare the gun's size to your phone - you carry your phone *everywhere*. If your gun is similarly sized (not much bigger, not much thicker) and also isn't too heavy - you'll probably carry it 100% of the time. Downsides are: *1. the gun's harder to shoot due to small size accurately* - Not a deal breaker, in most situations it matters less, in CQB also matters less - but it is a downside... *2. typically more recoil than a bigger gun (comparing the same calibers, apples to apples)* - gets easier w/ experience, give it a few weeks of range fun. If too much, choose smaller caliber *3. caliber will be smaller (32. acp / .380 acp / 9mm at most)* - I wouldn't take a .22LR since rimmed cartridges are unreliable (.32 acp is similar in it's low recoil, more powerful, much more reliable) *4. Capacity will be lower (6-10 rnds max)* - not much of a deal breaker for most situations, but obviously still a downside With all that said though - you will HAVE a gun, where other methods won't allow you to carry everywhere. And you should carry everywhere! Unless you think you have a magic crystal ball and can predict danger... By carrying everywhere you will be safer, keep others around protected AND feel safer too :) Highly recommended IMHO to check out are: Ruger LCP, Ruger LCP2, Ruger LCP Max, Kel Tec P3AT, Kel Tec P32, S&W, Berretta Bobcat, ...

I've yet to encounter a pair of women's pants with normal sized pockets, especially skinny jeans. Most women's skinny jeans don't actually come with real pockets, but rather a sewn shut faux "pocket". I think that there are a lot of really awesome options available to women that can allow them to avoid pocket carry/downsizing to a micro gun while still allowing them to pretty much wear whatever attire they choose :) Although some lifestyles or even weather conditions could make pocket carry the most viable choice. I think it's also important to note that although we many of us make it a priority to carry as much as we possibly can, almost* nobody can legally carry wherever life takes them, and thus cannot carry everywhere they go. Thanks for the info on the potential downsides to pocket carry!
