This is the most underrated gun related channel out there. Your delivery represents a clearly objective point of view delivered with a non-demeaning tone. Your content is more relevant and informative to the more common issues of concealed carry than anyone out there. In my humble opinion most other channels are overly focusing on the glory topics like drawing and shooting as fast as possible, how to clear a room, etc. While I watch and enjoy that other content and I believe it is also relevant, the reality for most folks is: step 1- the challenge of making daily carrying more convenient so that we carry more often, step 2 - avoiding trouble in the 1st place step 3 - being able discern when is the appropriate time to bring a weapon into play, accounting for proper threat/target identification, what other risks are/may be present etc, step 4 - technique quick draw, accurate shot placement and maneuvering, step 5 - post incident behavior and process. In reality most of use never experience a situation requiring step 4. I understand people have to make money and chasing the view counts drives content. I gobble that stuff up too, but if someone is new to concealed carry scratching their head about how do I carry this thing, your channel is awesome at that. Thank you so much for providing content that adds to the complete reality of conceal carry and I hope you and your channel continue to succeed.

There are people with the same thoughts and fears and your analysis will help them. There are people that have no experience with guns and are afraid of them and part of that fear stems from their perception that no gun owners are having these conversations with themselves to make the decision. Your video will help them gain a different perspective. I absolutely LOVE how you spoke to the continued training that comes along with firearms. This video is 100% perfect in every single way. So this was timed well. I shot John Correia's ASP 10-Round Skill Check today. Scores are based on times and points and are ranked 0-100, with a score of 0-25 being highly indicative that the shooter should seek training before committing to carrying a firearm. I think it's cool that a drill developed by a reputable instructor has a skill level that says, "You probably shouldn't carry until you master some basic skills first." It ties in well with this video because the shooting community gets so wrapped up in everyone having the right to bear arms, that they loose sight of the fact that not everyone should tote a gun - whether for lack of skill or not being mentally prepared for the responsibility - and rather than shaming those people that choose not to carry we should be patient, accepting, and encouraging of them.

There is so much more to take into consideration than how you draw and aim, it can seem overwhelming. No one who practices CC should ever do it without putting a great deal of thought and actual handgun practice into it. And the training that it takes to be proficient not only in carrying a weapon, but identifying potential threats, identifying bystanders, and the multitude of other factors that need to go into any potential self-defense situation cannot be understated in their importance. I'm glad you advocated so well for the idea of training, training, and more training. EDC'ing a firearm is not for everyone, and there is no shame in that either. It's a choice that should not come easily. But should come with a strong understanding of it's implications.

Mindset is everything. There’s so much more that goes into gun ownership and carrying than people realize. I had this conversation with myself before I purchased my first handgun. I was able to answer by trusting in my martial arts experience and other stress induced training that I have exposed myself to. I've spent 33 year carrying. It's a big responsibility. If you're fighting with the question of "can I use deadly force" than I would say don't carry. There are other options that are less leathal (pepper spray) for one. My biggest issue for not carrying is "it's slim to none that I will ever need to use it" and it's a pain to have that extra weight on my hip. But I carry anyway, "I'd rather have it and not need it, than need it and not have it". Any rate it's good to question carrying and it's not for everyone take the time to learn the laws, become proficient with the operation of your firearm, and practice firing as often as you can. It's muscle memory that will save your life. Great topic!

Amazing video and viewpoints, gonna be recommending this one to people for a while. Best takeaway is that carrying a gun alone is not adequate, not is just the most basic form of training. My grandma carries and has for years. We aren't particularly close, but she knows I carry as well and once asked me what I thought of her carrying. She was surprised when I told her I'd rather she didn't! She only shoots maybe twice a year, likely has no concept of 'know what's behind your target' 'cover v concealment,' 'wait your turn' etc. Someone like that is better off either getting more training and owning their lack of knowledge or just giving up together. Nobody in their right mind half learns how to drive a car and says 'good enough.' It's an all or nothing situation, cause lives are on the line.

Maryland restricts who can carry (need to own an LLC, have a security clearance, or be a part of church security) but, if you meet those, their training requirements are intensive. 16 hours with marksmanship requirements. The training I went to even had role players enact different self-defense scenarios. The scenarios were a game changer. They revealed many of my flaws and showed me the weight of responsibility I was signing up for when I carry a gun. It's something I think everyone needs to do at some point if you're going to carry a firearm.

You really don’t know or understand unless your actually put in a real world situation, then that’s when you think about all of the consequences and repercussions that come along with owning a gun. I’m still developing my situational awareness as well and learning to be ready if the time ever comes. PS I also use a G48 for concealed carry!

We as people who carry need to remember that if we are forced to shoot, we will NOT be treated as heroes. We will be hauled into court and treated like vigilantes. And shooting in defense of others who are not immediate members of our family is a very grey area. And of course, we need to be extra concerned about innocent bystanders being hit by stray bullets. If they are just taking money from the register and then leaving. I will do nothing. Each situation must be handled on it's own merit. Personal decisions for sure.

It is good you have done or are beginning again, a mental evaluation of situations you might face and be tempted/requred to use your own handgun for self defense or defense of others. Even as someone who has been in the military and a campus police officer, when to point a gun at someone or consider using it, is not an easy decision. I hope I would 'just know' when that was correct after not having any authority of cover my actions. Also, what you carry may determine when you take affective action. I stepped across a larger fast serving McD's one night, and the personal weapon I was carrying was not the one I wanted for a 50 ft defensive shot, versus just ducking out the door. Please remember, people intent on robbery or mayhew don't give a hoot about distances, damages or potential blood shed; these two previous facts have given me pause to train even more, and increase the barrel length and round count of my carry pistol.

All this says to me is you have a real respect for firearms. Too many people who cc or even just own firearms with some idea of self defense have no clue the real legal liabilities, not to mention the human liabilities, to doing either. I honestly think, if you don't have the same kind of training a cop does for de-escalation and carrying a weapon, you shouldn't carry nor use a weapon, let alone a gun, for self defense.
@metaleggman182 жыл бұрын
This is part of why the NY gun Supreme Court case bothers me. I think anyone should be able to conceal carry, but there needs to be a real duty to get people to understand that guns aren't magical self defense devices, that you're not John Wayne or James bond just because you have a gun, and that you absolutely need training. After all, conceal carrying should essentially make you a special class of citizen, and that fairly requires an extra burden on someone wanting to conceal carry. I get having emergency conceal carry permits for some situations like domestic violence cases, but I generally think having licenses and real, honest, and comprehensive requisite training would not only make the public safer, but it would also make gun owners safer. We already realize that police are human, prone to error, and make bad choices, usually due to inadequate training (thanks largely to the types of reactive, war-like training that started in the 80s through for profit police training companies who had ins with police unions). If police officers have these issues, then frankly, without even as much training, or at least similar training, how would an armed civilian be able to truly and honestly carry safely? Both for themselves and for the people around them? Guns are tools built to kill, whether and animal, a human, in self dense, in war, etc. If someone doesn't have a healthy respect for that, there's no telling what danger they would be to themselves or others.

You didn't offend me at all. If you are going to carry a firearm, you have a responsibility to know how and when you should use it and be competent with it. If you aren't in that space, you probably should wait until you are before you start.

This is why all the MIL social media guys say to train, train, train. You are useless without training as with anything in life. I didn’t watch the whole video, but signing up for tactical training and joining different MIL and LE pistol and defense classes help a lot.

Those classes can be helpful, but law enforcement encounters tend to differ greatly from civilian self defense encounters, so it's a good idea to also seek out classes geared towards civilians :)

I’ve definitely had the long existential thoughts about if it really came down to brass tacks, would I be able to do what I needed to do? At the end of the day, yes, I believe I would. I think everyone has these thoughts. And I think that everyone has also seen a situation in front of them that was major pucker factor. I know I have had situations where I am seeing something that could seriously take a hard left really quick if one person just said the wrong word, and it makes you sweat. It’s not often but I’ve dealt with it. You’re like, “holy fuck.. is this it? This can’t be it. Please don’t let this be it.” The couple times I’ve experienced it I walked away and almost blew chunks over it. Not because I was afraid of having to pull my gun, i was in a constant state of mad anxiety for an extended period of time that when I finally was able to relax I had no idea how to flush out that anxiety. Maybe that’s just me as someone that’s struggled with anxiety my entire adult life, but that’s a scary thing having to stand and wonder for 10-15 minutes about whether this will be it or not is hard, not only thinking about what this is going to turn into, but also thinking about at what point do you pull, thinking about every single movement you’re going to make so it’s flawless when you do make the movements, and every single possible outcome floating through your mind, Idk if anyone else has felt this way, so if not, I guess I’m just nuts.

Don't let one scenario out of thousands keep you from carrying.
@tessahbooth3 жыл бұрын
It wasn't the scenario, it was becoming aware that I was not prepared to defend myself with that particular tool, and a realization that I needed more training before being able to responsibly carry a gun.

So, if you are in a store, and someone comes in to rob the cashier, would you pull your gun out?
@enicoli3452 жыл бұрын
What type of classes would you recommend? I’ve been looking at concealed carry ones but idk if those are just specific to getting a permit or if they’re useful in walking you through what to do once you’ve drawn your gun.
@tessahbooth2 жыл бұрын
That mostly depends on current skill level. If someone has zero training then it would be a good idea to get into a basic beginners course to get safety and fundamentals down. Besides that, my favorite class to recommend to anyone and everyone is John Murphys (FPF Training) Street Encounter Skills and Tactics two day class. John travels all over the country all year long, so he's bound to come within a few hours drive of most people, and he puts on an absolutely outstanding course for anyone looking to carry a gun for self defense.

@@tessahbooth awesome! Thank you so much! My ex was a cop so I have the firearm safety down pretty well and have been to the range, cleaned my gun etc. I’ll look into this class! Thank you:)
