This just hit the spot! If these points had been taken care of, all the fatalities from fall in construction would be eliminated!

If the Tarzan problem were solved. I got hurt pretty bad by a 2 foot offset. Fortunately it was only my back that got bruised up. Working alone, I was able to get down only because I was using a non standard system. The Tarzan problem that no one has apparently solved concerns me because I can only think of 2 solutions, in addition to putting anchors every 6 feet. A 2 to 5 foot swing could take out a lot windows, teeth, brains, etc. The poor harness design and no built in solution for getting down boggles my mind, since tree climbers and rock climbers get down with no problem. And they fall a lot more and a lot farther than construction guys.

@@dennisgarber we have rules that dictate that when fall safety equipment is used, there must always be one other person that has trained in evacuation/retrieval from that fall safety equipment. There also has to be a realistic evacuation/retrieval plan when fall safety equipment is used, it could be using a lift, evacuation rope and so on. On projects that are special in either situation or gear used, we train on retrieval in realistic circumstanses beforehand, to be sure that they master it. And the swing effect always has to be considered, and that would often dictate more anchors, or different gear/solutions.

Couldn't agree more, Bengiman big! Equipment alone does nothing without understanding how to properly use it. Have a great week! - Devon

I love how the so called experts never mention the plan for anyone working alone to get down. This is because the harness and system designed wrong to begin with. There needs to be a 2 rope system with a rappelling option on one lrs on the other. If you used a Revo belay on the second and used an opposing anchor, you could eliminate the Tarzan problem. You may still have problems with the archaic design of the harness and the lrs. Detachment poorly thought out scheme.

I once seen a guy climb 40 foot scaffolding with a scaffold gate attached to his lanyard as he climbed. He had training, but you can't fix stupid.

That's really unfortunate, Adam. We say often that safety is ultimately your responsibility because regardless of the training and the tools provided, it's up to the individual to apply them. Thanks for watching! - Devon
