In today’s #WatchTalk episode I'm joined once again by fellow watch enthusiast and industry insider Marc Frankel of Long Island Watch to discuss our picks for the top 6 craziest watches of all time.
From the most outlandish and super-rare Rolex Daytonas, to high-end watches from Greubel Forsey that pushed the boundaries of manufacturing, world-changing Pateks, record-breaking Piaget timepieces, revolutionary technology from American turned Japanese heavyweight Accutron, and more-this fun, luxury-themed watch chat is chock full of horological delights. And-spoilers!-tune in for a surprise appearance from the right dishonorable Hugo Mountbatten as he unveils his brand new, exclusive, limited-edition luxury timepiece that suspiciously looks like a Cartier Tank meets a Jaeger-LeCoultre Reverso, but with a FOMO-inducing waitlist that rivals those of industry titan Rolex.

I strongly disagree. While Marc may come across as a nice guy, his store is a scam. TGV should know better, and fans of Marc should do their research and buy watches where they actually get a warranty card. It is, of course, ok if someone _wants_ to buy a factory second, but you should know what you're getting.

Re: Accutron - there is a big following among musicians - kicked off according to some - by the late guitarist Tony Rice - for the Accutron 214 model. Several Bluegrass guitarists repair them (as did Tony before his passing last year). Great watch. Bought mine new in 1973! Good vid. Keep at it!

Sinn U200 is an overengineered beast of a tiny watch. Shockingly small at first but I have grown to love it. Now I'm all set to dive 2,000 meters when the urge to be completely crushed becomes desirable. When I feel like staying dry and returning to the space age a black Hamilton Spectra hits the spot. Keep up those collaborations. 👏

Marc’s pick are just completely insane timepieces ! 😱😱🤩 If I had to pick 3 watches to participate, I would say : - the Accutron because it’s one of the kind, - the Zenith El Primero 1/100 s, just ’cause they can do it, but 1/100 s it’s just pointless in a wrist watch, - The JLC Reverso Hybris ’cause it’s just mind blowing tech in a Reverso !

Craziest for me has to be the Jacob & Co. Bugatti Chiron Tourbillon Sapphire. The entire case is cut from a single block of sapphire and there is a working model of the W16 engine from the car in the watch. The movement spins the crankshaft of the engine and the pistons go up and down, it's wild haha.

I went through a diver phase, g shock phase, a dress phase, seiko phase and a homage phase because i cant afford luxury watches. now going through a vintage chronograph phase, and possibly venturing deeper in the hobby towards aquiring my grails. but I probably would consider myself a vintage/value type of collector...cheers.

Good evening TGV! Great to have a new edition with you and Marc and some crazy pieces. Personally, the Rolex Daytona Rainbow would be a bit too much for my taste, but I can see the craftmanship in the watch. But the techno-look of the Bulova Accutron is quite perfect and strangely intruiging. Looking forward for the next pieces in this video. Best regards!

Awesomely funny intro :D I really enjoy learning about unusual and ingenious engineering ideas, and all that technological progress, not only in watches, but generally in everything through human history. That's also why I don't consider quartz watches as something inferior - the knowledge and technology used for making them is more advanced than for mechanical watches. Building an integrated circuit, even a simple one found in the simplest quartz watch - having a circuit for making the quartz crystal oscillate and a frequency divider - requires much more precision than making a mechanism of gears, and also requires much larger material purity. And it's much more complex. I'll admit that seeing a new and different technology, like the electrostatic Bulova, gives me much more fun that seeing a colorful Rolex.

Two discussion topics for future episodes: 1. Rebuys: personal watches you sold only to regret selling and then rebuying them later. Why did you sell? What drove you to want it so much you had to rebuy? 2. Bombs: watches you thought you would love at purchase but never took to once you owned them, only to leave in the watch-drawer or sell them on. Cheers, gents

This was a fascinating video. I’ve heard all about these various watches in my reading, but I didn’t know the details of the construction of the Rolex rainbow. It’s certainly not a watch I would ever want to wear or even known but it is interesting how it’s made. I love Piaget, particularly the Antiplano. but I’ll never spend that kind of money on a watch. It is beautiful. They came out with a thinner one later but Richard Mille has recently released one less than 2 mm thick.

I don‘t know why. But I had a little research at the RM Website. And I have to say: I was really impressed by the mechanism how they wired a cable inside the case of the Rafael Nadal (RM 27-04) which Helds the movement. And I can‘t stop looking at the Pharrell Williams RM 52-05 martian helmet. It‘s the most beautiful dial in watches for me. (Especially the sapphire version). I will never see or held one - but it’s absolutely Art for me.

Hey KGV I'm a teen just getting into the watch world. I was looking to buy a budget skeleton/open face watch, is there any brands you would recommend? I was looking around and saw siezmonts Stiles Motus but I'm unsure of it's quality. I also saw your video on the best skeleton watched under 300 and absolutely love the inverted piepan you showed in the video. Thanks!

The Hugo. Maybe the best of today's video. Get it on Kickstarter, I'm in! Seriously, the Spaceview 2020 sounds much like the Seiko Kinetic movement introduced in the '90s.
