You need to turn that key to "start" and not let go until the machine starts or the battery runs down. It's hard on the battery when the starter is reengaged multiple times and it will lose energy much faster as a result. During cranking, you are creating heat around the top of the cylinder as the engine spins, and letting go of the key after a few seconds will dissipate any heat that has managed to build up. The starter on a diesel is made for prolonged cranking - up to a minute and sometimes more. But the equation also requires batteries which are fully charged and less than 5 years old (give or take). Weak batteries will heat up everything electrical and melt the insulation on wiring due to the voltage drop. Here's the proper way to start a skid steer with hot batteries, no starting fluid, and two cycles of the glow plugs: kzbin.info/www/bejne/i5jEZZSknM59ns0

mark fontaine I would have but we had a lot of work to do and honestly I didn't have time bc the idiots that work for us made us waste over an hour just to start it. They never listen and they shoulve parked it inside.
