6 each not required in IELTS for SDS Category Study permit in Canada?

Recently IRCC issued new guidelines in relation to Canadian Study Permit SDS category where it updated the English language Requirements for this visa. There are many updates and it's a huge news that impacts thousands of students that migrate to Canada in search of a brighter future.
There's still some confusion with regards to the module wise minimum scores in IELTS and PTE, however, we hope to receive a more descriptive update soon.

College Admission Requirements will probably remain the same. Most are already accepting 5.5 in one module for many courses. Check the college website for entry requirements as it varies by college and course.

Having a better score would allow you to choose from a range of options. However, the condition to apply under SDS is that you need band 6 overall, with no score less than 6, nothing more. The bottom line is that you CAN apply and would probably even get the visa depending on course relevancy and the rest of the profile.

This news is as per IDP's website and social media handles. If this goes through, then it will be possible for graduates to apply with an overall 6 as well. You'll have to wait for now for an update though.

Hi @prashantamra731, If you’re planning to apply through the SDS visa program before the 10th of Aug 2023, you’re required to achieve a minimum IELTS 6.0. band score in each skill, for both the IELTS Academic and IELTS General Training tests. From the 10th of August 2023 onwards, you will be able to apply for the SDS visa with IELTS Academic with an overall band score of 6.0. This means you will no longer need a minimum band score of 6.0 for each section.

Most colleges screen their students based on these scores. 5.5 in one module is the minimum band score needed to apply for a vast majority of colleges. This is why I've asked you to retake the test.

As per IDP, it is. However, there will be few colleges that offer you a place with that score. Something like a prerequisite ESL course might be required. Things will become clearer soon

A test result is valid for two years, so you won't have to retake the test if there's a confirmation of the news by IRCC. You will be able to apply with the same score. Good luck!

5.5 in a module is accepted by many colleges, though they're not top notch colleges. Many students get their offer letter using this score and then retake the test for the SDS category.

If any college accepts that score, you can apply. Unfortunately, right now there are no colleges which are accepting this score for direct admission.

I don't think any college is accepting this score. Even though it's 6 overall, it depends on whether colleges accept this score or not. Some colleges are accepting 5.5 in one or two modules now.
